Did you find out why your MB was shutting down by itself?? I'm curious about it.

No, but as I mentioned, it has only happened after I repaired permissions using the OS X disks included with the MacBook. I'm going to see if it happens with the Leopard disks next, assuming they boot.

this one's a keeper

Got the 2.4 (after at least a couple of returns), grabbed a color profile from off of these forums, and even with the 9C89 screen, it's pretty decent. Watched Sweeney Todd with little or no problems.

I was thinking of trading it in for a MBP and taking a $569 hit in the shorts, but I think I'll keep it.

And okay, I admit, the light up keyboard is pretty effing cool... The display has a bit of a narrow viewing angle, but I can live with it. I can offically say that I'm happy about the purchase.

I've got the 2.0 ghz model, and while I'd have loved to have gotten the 2.4 model, I don't see what's really desirable about the backlit keyboard. Do people really look at the keys when they're typing? I mean, learning to type means learning how to not look at the keys when you're doing it, no?

I have the 9C89 screen too and with one of the downloaded color profiles, I don't know which one, it looks fine to me too. I just saw the new MBP in a store and I thought that its screen was comparable to the MB's except for its higher resolution, of course.

But I'm sure everyone will disagree with me on that last point. :p

I _finally_ got my 2,4ghz mb, and I love it. At first the top row of the keyboard looked slanted, but after typing for a few minutes it was straight, so- yay!
The display seems perfectly fine, although I have to admit that the blacks could be slightly better.
Anyhoo, couldn't be happier with my purchase. Off home to play a bit with number six! Or toaster. Haven't decided on a name yet...

How can you find out...

How can you find out what company display you have... Mine is the 9C8C. I had asked earlier in this thread... is 9C8C a good thing or bad thing? How do you find all those little details out about the build of your MB?

I went on a trip and accidentally left my white 13" 2.0 Macbook on the roof of my car. It didn't fall off until I was going 45mph. The battery no longer charges and the hard drive had to be replaced. The screen is damaged with a white streak in the lower left corner.
Anyway... I wasn't planning on buying a new Macbook, but I bought a new 2.0 Brickbook. I can say that the biggest improvement I can see other than the display is the comfort when using it. On the white Macbook, the edge below the keyboard used to irritate my arms. The new Macbook is really comfortable and I can use it for hours. Oh yeah... I haven't had any heat issues either.

I'm sorry, but that has got to be the funniest MacBook story I've ever heard XD

Anyhow, the moral of the story is: If you're going to drive with things on top of your car, don't floor it.

Profile for screen

Hey can somebody just post some good calibration/profiles and where to get them? That would be a huge help.
Thanks.

Got my 2.0ghz macbook this morning, am very pleased with it so far

Screen isn't so bad, is definitely no worse than my old whitebook ( which now looks pretty terrible next to this new one)

2 minor problems so far , my battery cover is loose :p but hopefully i can just get that swapped out in the future for one which is a better fit.

The trackpad isn't 100% flush , neither was the old whitebook though and isn't going to bother me.

Very nice machine :D

Read the first post, I have put most of the more pertinent facts about the MacBook there. I will add a section on the GPU too, which is still missing. :)

My battery appears to be dying. I just noticed today that I have under two hours of battery life, after charging nearly completely. I will test some more, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I will need to have a Genius swap my battery.

Anyone else have battery problems? BTW, iStat Nano says battery health is 100%.

My order came in today. Checked the battery cover, it seems fine. Function keys are slanted, but I can live with that. Booted it up and found a single dead pixel about an inch below the iSight.

I don't notice it during normal use, but I know it's there and that fact alone will bug me. Back to my campus store tomorrow to see about an exchange :(

Are you sure your dead pixel is not a star from your background? I would double check that

No, it's dead. It's pretty clear even with the default Aurora desktop and is blatant with the grey boot screen.

Aw, that's too bad! Sorry about the hassle and disappointment. :(

BTW, my battery life this morning reads 2:08 after being fully charged overnight and with brightness turned all the way down to last segment. That's definitely not right. Will go to Apple Store on Tuesday. :(

Mine's going to see a genius this morning - superdrive's only accepting discs less than half the time.

Went back to Apple this morning. Bad part is that my replacement won't be here until mid next week again.

At least I still have my iBook. It'd be more of an inconvenience if I didn't have another machine to work on in the meantime.

Ever since I've gotten my MB I've spent hours on these forums. If there is something to know about my toys, I usually want to know it :). I have complained and griped about some issues I've had with my mac, and since it was my first one i just wanted it to be perfect.
It does have a louder than normal HD, the battery cover is a little loose, and the screen doesn't shut completely flush with the bottom (it sits a tiny bit to the right) but so far I haven't noticed any marks on the screen. All in all, none of these issues have affected my ability to use this computer or its performance (KNOCK ON WOOD!! :) ).
Basically I just wanted to say that despite these little inconveniences, this machine is AMAZING! I actually enjoy doing work on it, and using all its MAGIC tricks :D

SO not a PERFECT mac, but a SATISFIED owner :)

PS. This thing is straight up BEAUTIFUL! I catch myself sitting here and just staring at it... :p
