Welcome to the club!!

I made the long turn from PC to mac. I went with the 2.0 and Mobile me to start off. So far 've downloaded Adium, the updates for my macbook, got RTM Pro, and about to get 1Password.

Any other suggestions?

SO HAPPY with my book!
1 Password is AWESOME. Don't know what kind of work you do or what your hobbies are, but Scrivner is a great program for writing. Give it a look. Also, I gave up Quicken for Moneydance; very simple and straight forward.

This week one of my husband's clients shared how it was time for them to replace their PCs and network configuration. He was lamenting what a torturous process it is. He bought a couple of big tower heavyweight computers and then had to hire a computer team to come in and network everything. My husband didn't have the heart to tell him that we had just bought a Time Capsule (1T) and that we would have to set up our new network for one desktop, 3 laptops, 1 company PC and set them all up to back up automatically. He didn't have the heart to tell him that his wife set it all up in under half an hour! Gotta love Apple!

Just picked up my replacement unit.

1. Flawless 9C8C screen. No problem pixels, no dust.
2. A few slanty keys, but I don't think they're as bad as my last unit. Nothing that bothers me or can't be fixed with a post-it note and my index finger.
3. Battery cover sits flush and doesn't rattle.
4. Trackpad is uniform and centered.

Turnaround time was actually faster than my initial order. Couldn't be happier with it and can't wait to get home from the office and transfer my stuff over from my iBook.

Harddrive

How many of the owners here have a constant humming noise coming from the harddrive?

Mine arrived on Saturday and I could not be happier.
No problems to report yet, the battery cover shifted abit but once I bent the clips, no problem.

As a 1st time Mac owner I can honestly say I have been turned, I now hate the thought of using my old vista notebook!

Oh I got the 15" MBP with all max specs, expensive but WELL worth it!

YES!! Mine does it too... when i put my hand on the right side of the trackpad and pres down a little bit it quiets down but you can still hear it spinning! It bugged me a little bit at first, but I think i'm over it now that I realized that it's somewhat normal.

If you're that peeved by HD noise, replace it with SSD.

Or turn the music up.

Not peeved. A little annoyed. If everyone was having this problem, I'd be ok with it but if there are only a select few who have this problem like me, then I would like to get it fixed.

Btw, forgive my lack of knowledge, but what's an SSD? And how much is it to get one?

Screen lines

I am so bummed! We just bought our first Macbook EVER (switching from PC) and the second we turned on our brand new unit, we noticed lines all down the left side of the screen.... so now we are returning it. I want to stay with this model, but please tell me this is just a fluke and not a sign that worse malfunctions are to come?! ANy one else have this problem??

Thats definitely a fluke and not common at all.

errr. Does anyone elses superdrive spit out discs? After i ripped some dvd's today. My superdrive decided to act funny. its spitting out any disc that i put in it. Any sugg.? this is really annoying.

Solid state drive (aka flash memory). Price depends on capacity and the technology used. I'm sure there are others who are more knowledgeable on the subject and prices can be found on places like newegg.

That's not normal behavior, obviously. If that continues, you'll have to take it back to the Apple store.

Anybody have a problem with the backlight for the keyboard? Mine is either off or on - if I have the "Illuminate in low light conditions" checked the backlight never turns off no matter how bright it is in the room. In fact - when all of the lights are on in the room the computer turns the backlight to the maximum (even if I had it set to almost off).

Basically if I manually turn the backlight off it will never turn on. If I put it on almost the lowest setting in a fully lit room and turn the lights off it stays at that setting. As soon as I turn the lights on it automatically sets the backlight to the maximum setting. Is this the normal behavior?

Yep it was annoying me, turned out bad drive! well at least they gave me a new one. But stupid me forgot to ask them to backup from the old macbook. so i gotta start from scratch! doh.

AHHHHHHH!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I got my MacBook on the 15th of last month, and I'm STILLLL excited and in love with it. Luckily I have no dead pixels that I can see, no crooked keys, the battery cover fits, BUT I did notice theres a scrape under the right shift key, oh well.. its no biggie.

I stopped using the PC I built myself (very high end machine) and let my friend borrow it, because I cant get enough of this macbook.. XP seems so ancient in comparison.

The 2 touch scrolling and 4 finger expose is VERY thought out, I dont even want to hook up a mouse.

Only problem? Laggy genie effect/dashboard when on battery, and dashboar can be laggy even when hooked up to power.

AHHH! Its beautiful! Its awsome!

I was checking out the pictures in this thread, and I couldnt help myself.

The love I feel for my macbook is strong.

You're not alone. This weekend I will post pix of my new slipcase and will also add recommended software to the first post. I know a lot of you want to know what the best software is for your new MacBook and I have assembled a long list. :)

That's not where the documents folder actually resides, that's just a missing "alias." Your documents folder can be found here:

Macintosh HD > Users > Home (your name) > Documents

Click through this hierarchy to see if you can find it and then drag it back to the sidebar to make it show again. :)
