2Ghz stock Alum. Macbook grabbed on weekend and loving it.

The noted track pad issues ceased with the patch released today off Software Update.

Before I started reading these various threads, I had the power-saving sleep/overheating issue when I closed my Macbook, tossed it in my Incase Neoprene sleeve and went to a friend to geek/talk about development stuff. Pulling it out of the case, and it was hot enough to scald my fingertips. The LED was not pulsating, and it was running full tilt with no fan sound until I popped the power cable back on. I will for now endeavour to shut it down when transporting, and ensure there are no USB devices left plugged in when unplugged from the wall.

Oh yes, no dead pixels, keys all aligned, no chips off the casing or glass, nothing behind the glass, trackpad aligned and screen is an LG Philips and looks great with Rez' profile.

OK, so I ended up getting a bee-atch Apple Genius today who told me that my battery was fine and that 1.5 hours of battery life is "typical." I wanted to fling my MacBook at her but I decided to just leave and figure out a different strategy. This one definitely didn't work. Unbef...inglievable.

I have a question to new owners of the new MacBook that has never had a Mac before. Now that it's been a couple of weeks, what do you all do with your Macs?

I primarily use mine for schoolworks. And I've also offloaded some of my photowork with photoshop-masters etc on my MacBook.

It's just alot easier to organize these things in OSX.

my advice: call applecare and talk to them because they are MUCH nicer. :)bring up at the end, after they said they will fix it about the "genius.":p i hope you wrote down her name;)

Attention: I hate you all.*

*kindly replace hate with "am super envious of"

Dont be a hater... you're not the only one that's going to wait for Nehalem (Core i7) Chips.

They are the fastest ever made... and i really wana wait until they come out for Macbooks -- it will probly be mid 2010.

The Used Macbook that i'm currently on is mostly used by me to organize my multimedia -- OSX is just amazing in that it includes all the software that you need to organize Movies, Music, and Pictures.... that, and interfacing w/ my iPod.

I use windows for Gaming. ;)

How about a link to my MacBook and OCZ SSD review in the first post too ?

http://www.the-iblog.com/2008/11/11/who-needs-to-spend-500-on-an-ssd/

Sure! :D

Adium is not shareware.

Thanks, I changed it to free, which is what it is. :)

I also removed Moneydance from the recommended list. After playing with it, I decided that its biggest weakness was printing, particularly absence of addressee check printing and need to fiddle with a check template. Needs a few more years of development.

I'm in the process of getting my MB replaced through Apple Care, and can I just say that it's been nothing but PLEASURE to deal with them? I'm going to wait for a full comment on the whole process once i get my new MB in the mail, but CALL THEM about your batter issue. It will take only a few minutes and they will treat you very nice. Good job Apple Care!! :D

Yea well, first I have to get AppleCare. :p I have already started twittering about it, it's not going to help Apple's cause. They don't know who they're dealing with.

Wait... didn't you just buy a brand new Alu? You automatically have 1 year of Apple Care. You don't have to purchase anything extra. I haven't gotten it yet either, am going to wait until the end of my first year of ownership.

I envy you guys, I have to wait, till the 29th to get mine (paycheck). However, it will be awesome gift for myself, just came from Lakeside Mall Apple Store and it was awesome feeling to see it in person.

lol I remember when I had to wait for my paycheck, longest 2 weeks in my life

Not if the Genius thinks your battery is fine, I guess. I felt stupid, but I was too busy today to argue with her, although, in retrospect, I should have put my foot down then and there.

I would call Apple Care anyway and tell them how you were treated in the store, and that you don't think that 1.5 hours is normal for a month-old laptop that you paid all this money for. IT IS RIDICULOUS and she was obviously just trying to brush you off!!
Be calm, but firm and honest about your issue... Give it a shot! Let us know how it goes...

I should have taken her name, but no matter, I will get it taken care of. It's just a big PITA and I won't be able to deal with it until early Dec. because I will be gone. :(

AppleCare is what extends your already in existence Warranty! You have one year... and you can call Apple support/ sometimes synonymous with AppleCare for the first 30, 60, or 90 days... I can't remember. So yes, its still just barely a month old YOU CAN CALL THEM. With other issues in the past, I've called them and THEY have set up the Genius appointment and told them what to do for you. Seriously, you don't drop $1200-$1500 and not expect some customer service. Man, I'd call the store manager and make sure that your new laptop was ready for you. Let us know the rest of the story!

Sure! :D

It has a print feature. I print checks every week. Granted, it took some tweaking and lining up (you're right it does need more development), but I've got it printing as good as Quicken did.

Wow, that sounded scary... Anyway here's the list of what I do with my Macbook:
1. Writing and organizing so I do a lot of things that require Word Processing... I use Pages and Keynote a lot.
2. Pay my bills (Moneydance is my checkbook)
3. Keep track of all my family photos (stored on my MacBook and MobileMe)
4. Store my entire music library (Everything is in Lossless format, I have 42.5 GBs
5. I play drums for a couple of bands so I use it to organize the music I need to practice and then send the playlists to my iPods.
6. Of course emailing friends.
7. Online Shopping
8. Use Bento for organizing business contacts and work-related data as well as our home inventory.
9. Started working on notes for a book in Scrivner (just to see if I could do it)
10. Bible Study with Accordance
11. iChat with out-of-town family and friends
and last but not least...
12. Play Scrabble.

I'm sure there's more, but it'd getting late.

I could not find where you can change the address of a payee. It shows "voucher address" in "Calibrate Printer," but nowhere could I find how to turn that on or edit them.

I've not even tried out iChat, I wish they would support MSN users. None of my friends have iChat, the few who has a Mac don't even use it.

And here I was thinking that I WAS ADDICTED to my Mac... :)

Hello, my name is Macladybug and I'm a MacJunkie.

And here I was thinking that I WAS ADDICTED to my Mac... :)

Yeah, I've got it BAD.

I could not find where you can change the address of a payee. It shows "voucher address" in "Calibrate Printer," but nowhere could I find how to turn that on or edit them.

The address book is in the "Tools" menu. Here's Money Dance's excerpt on the subject:
Using the Address Book with Transactions

You may wish to include further information about the people and businesses who give and receive your funds. Moneydance's address book allows you to include information such as street addresses, phone numbers and email contacts for people and businesses.

You can select any entry from your Address Book from the Description drop-down menu in an account register. Description choices which point to address book information are marked with green @ symbols.

Address book entries must be used to allow addresses to print on checks using Moneydance's check printing feature.

The program is not that sophisticated but that's what I like. Quicken was the first program that I thought worked better on the Windows Platform.

Does this help?

This is the settings I use on my HP wireless printer. I can print 3 or 2 checks at a time...

Maybe this will help... also I bought the app, perhaps you get a fuller version when you purchase it.

OK, that means I have to re-enter all my addresses for all my payees, that's a no-go. I'm back to using Quicken on the PC side, no problemo.

First my Macbook was accused of being too heavy. Another said it looked OK but was fascinated by the magsafe (querying about how it provides power if "it is not actually connected" :p). Then I was chastised for jumping on the Mac bandwagon (I pointed out I also own a HP laptop)

Then I was thrown off my Macbook by the first and second person so they could use Facebook and then told "actually it is pretty nice and light"

Guess it is still good enough for that then :D

Everything is relative. ;)

I find the new macbook feels heavier in my hand than the new macbook pro, anyone else have this feeling?

Everything is relative, especially if your handle is "macbookairapple." :D
