I hope I'm not asking something that's already been covered, but I was wondering for those that have replaced the stock HDD, did you get one with or without a free-fall sensor? I've been reading that some older MacBook owners have had issues with HDDs with the sensor built in. I'm looking to upgrade my HDD to a 320GB 7200rpm WD Scorpio Black or Seagate Momentus and want to know which version (sensor or not) I should go with.

Seems I won't be able to pick it up today so I'll hopefully go tomorrow. I've heard problems with the displays and was wondering what the best Colour Profile is.

Does anybody know if this screen is the same as the ones used on the "White MacBook" as my white MacBook screen is not the best I have seen but it is not too bad, and if I ever upgrade I would not want a screen that was not as good as the one I have now:confused:

PLEASE do a search in the forums!! There are PLENTY of threads about screen quality and comparisons. This is one of the very few decent threads that are not plagued with people arguing about the screens!!

PLENTY of threads about that too... Just do a simple search

WOA!! Relax with the CAPS there buddy... :p
I know you weren't arguing.. but the question you posted is basically an invitation to a HUGE argument that has been going on for a WHILE now... Just don't wanna see another thread get flooded with hate comments and attacks...

What???

I got my today...Haven't open it yet but will on sunday.....

It's arrived and sitting there? Just sitting there and you haven't opened the box? How can you let it just sit there and not even take it out of the box? I must be sick.

Yeah...Well I need to set up my wireless network first before opening it..otherwise it'd be meaningless to just stare at a laptop w/ no internet. It's only 1 1/2 day.

Wow, damn ... I must be getting old.

I was a full-on TEENAGER before the internet was even open to the public (but only by a bit).

We had no internet on our computers when I was growing up, and that's the way we liked it! Dagnabbit!

You could play around with it, get a feel for it, see the screen quality, transfer files, change the settings, etc.... You're online now aren't you? Just use the ethernet port to get online.. so confusing....

I couldn't hear anything after "it's still in the box"!

Hey Ubercool... it finally happened to me too...

Out of the blue, all of a sudden, and without any warning, my super drive started sticking. If I tried to put a disk in, it would feel like it was hitting something. I could still push it in by wiggling it in and pushing from back to front. It would work, but when it ejected you could hear how tight it was and it would scratch the top of the disk. The first time, gooey stuff came out on the top of the disk. Now it just scratches it.

Went right to the Genius Bar last night. They said that they were told to "capture and replace all defective Alums and not repair them". Apple wants to see why they failed. Since mine is custom, I would have to wait for a replacement. Not wanting to give up my near perfect one for slanted keys, or a bad display I fussed a little. The Genius went back to check on updates to their directives and came back and said that since it wasn't display, keys, or a common problem issue, they would repair it. They will replace the drive with another one just like it on Thursday for me. (They would have done it right then, but no one was working repairs the day after Thanksgiving.)

Damn, my "PERFECT" little Alum has a teeny tiny flaw. Oh well, there it is.

Chiming in and loving my new Al MacBook. Now I'm hunting down a solid 4gig RAM kit....or maybe have the folks at the Apple Store throw it in as the price differential is not quite as wide as it was before.
I can't believe how quiet this thing is. I have a new Dell XPS m1330 that is quite noisy with all the fan noise and constant HDD thrashing going on. Definitely need to find a decent outlet in order to sell that thing.
I've yet to find any flaws...well a slight ripple in the glass trackpad but I think I can live with that as it is not causing any trouble.

I bought my MacBook today (the 2.0GHz model) and my god.... I absolutely love it. It's a lot better then my old MacBook (which isn't even a year old yet lol). Keyboard seems more solid, the display is amazing (have the 9C89 and doesn't seem to be any problems), trackpad is great, built in speakers are a lot better as well, etc.. lol. One question, how long does it take to us migration via ethernet? I have about 30.03GB to transfer over so was just wondering how long that should take if anyone knows.

Not long!

I had about 60GB and at first it said 3 1/2 hrs. But it was done in barely 2.

Its really great to hear that you guys are loving your new MacBooks, and that they are ok, I was so disappointed a few weeks back, when they first came out, and there seemed to be quite a few problems, but looks like those early teething problems are now sorted out. I am going to upgrade my white MacBook soon now.:)

I have a question. What kind of hard disc is the new Macbook using? Is it a 2.5? Or does Mac make their own patented HD's?

Cause if it's a 2.5, is there anyone here who's bought a fast disc like Raptor (10 000+ rpm) and put it in there? If so, please comment on performance improvements.

Standard 2.5 inch 5200 rpm hard drives are used in the Macbook. You can replace them with 7200 rpm or even SSD drives if you want. My stock 2.0 Macbook comes with this model hard drive:

TOSHIBA MK1653GSX
