Um, for me it is, don't know about you. :p

Uh oh, another reason to carry those HandyWipes! ;)

Lol ... I think i'd be better off just buying those cans of Compressed Air in bulk, as i go through them like candy!! :)

Don't think this has been brought up in this thread.... What do you use to clean your Alu MB? Screen and body... be specific....

--I use the compressed air (screen and keys) and some Clorox wipes (body and keys), and the cleaning cloth that came with the MB (screen).

PixelClean for the screen. Or if I'm traveling, a damp wash cloth followed by a towel dry.

The previous white MacBook (IceBook) was best cleaned with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, but I would not use that or Clorox wipes to clean aluminum. I would stick with a damp cloth for everything until someone reports what works best on aluminum. :)

I use a clean cloth and windex to clean mine followed by a dry towel. I never spray the windex on the machine just on the cloth. The screen has just glass for a cover so... windex is a glass cleaner just makes sense. never had any problems with it on the aluminum either.

Yes, Windex should work on unibody glass panels, however it's not recommended for LCD screens. Other users have reported great success with Glass Plus Wipes, but I can't find them anywhere here in San Francisco. Amazon does sell them, assuming you want to pay the shipping fee. :)

New 2.4 Purchase details ......

Got my new 2.4 from Apple Website. Arrived in 4 days, paid for delivery in 2 days.

Opened the box took machine out - battery cover loose as a goose !

Opened the lid, and found a pretty heavy scratch/dent near the edge of the palm rest on the left hand side.

Closed it all back up and called Apple Care.

The Apple Care rep said that she would not putup with dents and loose covers, so take it back to an Apple Store and exchange it.

Unfortunately the Apple store is an airliner flight to a different island, but I pulled it off the next day.

Got to the Store, and no questions asked - they took my box, and gave me another new one.

Opened the box in the store to make sure any obvious defects could be detected before I flew home. Machine looked good and no physical defect issues.

Later in the day I reformatted the HD to my own needs, and then proceeded to load software. After 6 hours of loading the machine never got hot.

Also installed a color sync modification from someone in this forum "JC". He did a great calibration job, and it works with my screen very nicely.

Additionally I own a MPB 2.16 with 4 gig ram and believe it or not the MB "seems" faster - quicker.

Observation for others: If you look at the screen "across the grain" or widthwise, with a bright reflection, and with something "straight" in the reflection as well, if you rotate the computer horizontally, you will notice in the reflection ripples or waves in "glass" These are minor, an not seen straight on.

However, upon closer inspection "glass" doesn't seem like "glass" at all. IF it is actually glass, it must have been made under poor quality control standards such as those found in Indonesia.

Also, you can see "pinch stress areas" around the edge of the screen, where the glass has been "pressed" into the aluminmum frame and a rubber gasket.

If the "glass" were REALLY GLASS, you would not have the stress areas visually indicated.

I think that Apple has changed the definition of "Glass" from melted sand, to stretched plastic polycarbonate.

If it is really "glass", it is the ******'ist example I have ever seen.

Regarding the "no-firewire" issue, Apple is really dumb. Jobs just wanted to stop paying royalties to the employees who shared the patent award, and he has been threatening to kill the firewire for sometime now.

For my money, he can leave out the paper work, and small manualout of the box and save money that way - stick the firewire back in ! !

Overall the machine feels nice in the hands, easy to balance, and the screen is good enough for average use (not for Pro graphics users).

3 out of 5 max.

You must have gotten a bad screen. I don't have any of these issues with mine... no stress ares or "waves" for me.

I think I was able to FEEL the disappointment in your heart when I read your post :)
THANKFULLY, they worked with you and you didn't have to play russian roulette by ordering a replacement MB .. lol.

So sorry to hear that. I don't think they'll swap mine either, all I need is a new batt! Hope you can wait until Thursday. While I have a spare IceBook, I would still be very bummed to give up my unibody to a nobody! :D

Dropped my Alum off this morning, ran errands and picked it up at 4:00PM with a new SuperDrive. Seems to be working perfectly. Not a scratch on it... yes I was an idiot asking them to be really careful. Can't even tell it was cracked open... so far... for now.

You know,,,, there is a SAVE function on Macs.:D

I know that was a funny comment, but let me clarify just in case...
I was working with Word and a PDF file side by side, doing some translations and I HATED having to readjust the windows every time (document zoom/window shape) so I just kept it on Sleep.

Congrats... your 'baby' is once again perfect.. :D

7h20m battery life!!!

I figured that title would grab some attention :D
I thought you all would get a kick out of this.. I had let my laptop sitting on my desk, and when i got back to it, the screen was off so when i touched the trackpad it came back on, and it was displaying 7h22m time for the battery life :D
OF COURSE it was all idle-ed up and as soon as i opened an app it dropped, but i got a kick out of it! :p

my mB wouldnt come out of sleep today

I opened the Lid, the desktop came on for a split second then screen turned blank and the sleep light stayed constant, I waited to see if the light would change to the normal blinking sleep indication but it wouldnt, so I just held the power switch down and when I turned it back on It took longer for the initial blue mac screen to come back on

does this happen to anyone?

I had something similar, don't have a screeny of it though. However, I did have the airport on. Mine showed 7:39 remaining, with 92% left :D

i have a friend who is a huge PC knucklehead and i showed him the 7 minute macbook pr0n video on apple.com

i could tell that he was impressed, so i brought my unibody MB over to his place a couple days ago. he just sent me an email asking for good OSX downloads. :D

the intervention was successful

No glass issues here, so you must have had a poor QC unit, which is also reflected in the loose battery cover. In terms of FW, it's a moot point now that USB 3.0 is out, 3.0 will even leave FW 800 in the dust.

Please understand that the Mac can now go into hibernation, which takes pressing the power button briefly, not continuously, to bring it out of its slumber. You might not have waited long enough for it return to "on" state. :)

Hehe, I love it when that happens. :p

My first Apple experience

I purchased my first Alum Macbook (2.4 GHz) the first day it was available at our local store. It was my first Mac. As soon as I turned it on I noticed a dead pixel in the center of the screen. I took it back to the store the next day, and they gave me a new one. I was very pleased with the customer service.

After turning on my second Macbook I noticed that any time you bump it, or put your hand on the bottom of it while it is on, it goes into sleep mode. I lived with that for a few weeks since I needed the notebook for school, but finally couldn't handle it anymore and took it to the Apple store yesterday. They said they couldn't fix it there, but needed to ship it off and would notify me when it returns in about a week.

Unfortunately, I forgot to also tell the Apple Genius that it is also very difficult to put CDs in the drive. Sometimes the CD won't go in all the way, because something is blocking its entry. I then have to hold the notebook perpendicular to the table so that the drive is vertical and push the CD in a few times before it will accept it. I will ask about that when I get the notebook back.

I love OS X. I love the feel of the keyboard and the look and speed of the notebook. I love the customer service at Apple, but I am very disappointed with the build quality of the aluminum Macbooks that I have used so far.

My 2.0GHz, 4GB, 250GB MacBook is my first mac and I have to say I'm blown away! I waited 3 weeks for it, but when it arrived it was perfect! I haven't had a single problem. I'm in love. :p

Whenever I sit on my PC/Vista desktop it just looks so ugly, even though I'm very satisfied with Vista as well. Never had any problems so no hate there.

This probably won't be my last mac.

There seem to be some very knowledgeable people posting in the thread :)D) so I have a question... Popping sound? I know it was an issue on prev gen MB, but I seem to experience it on my Alu. Anybody have any ideas as to what it might be?
Popping sound = after a period of sound inactivity, i play a song or the email alert and i hear a POP from the speakers.
