I've bought a macbook aluminum 2.0ghz, 2gb ram and 9400m and when i first charged it, it took 12 hours. i wasn't using my macbook during the charge... is my battery broken or is it normal?

Thanks

Hey all, thanks for the advice! I'll be scheduling my memory upgrade this week... (From 2GB to 4GB)

Any thoughts on how much I should be paying???

(and NO, I'm not interested in DIY)

THANK YOU AGAIN!

This is really easy and I don't see how anyone could charge you very much for it. They should be able to do it right in front of you. Do you know anyone that knows computers--maybe they could just do it for you--for free. You seem set on taking it somewhere, so I'd say I wouldn't pay anymore than $50 to get it done--and that is over-charging.

Hey guys,

So for almost a year I've kept my Macbook mice and pretty on my desk, and I was thinking of gettig some APCare.

But I was reading that if you have a dent or what not on your body then APCare is void? Here is a pic:

Now I got 2 choices:

1) Get APCare and ignore the small dent/chip, which I have NO idea how it appeared since it's not even gone far from my bedroom and living room
2) Try to get an upper body for it, then see if Apple or whoever can fit it, and then get APCare.

I mean it's not huge, but if you were inspecting the body you could see it, but generally you can't if you aren't paying attention, so it's not really huge for me; I just don't want a £250 warranty to go to waste.

Cheers :apple:

Apple won't cover cosmetic damages... if that was the case, everyone would have 'brand spanking new' looking devices all the time. I'm sure warranty only covers mechanical failure or production defects.

They shouldn't give you any hassle for such minor damage.

Thats nothing to worry about. You should be fine. And get Applecare from Amazon its a lot cheaper.

yeah tiny dents like that wont matter at all, its only when the damage indicates the laptop has had some real rough treatment such as drops etc that it might start to affect your cover.

My husband finally got a MacBook Pro!

I've been following this thread since I purchased my Alum MacBook Oct. 2008. I passed my BlackBook onto my husband who's been listening to me rave about my little Unibody for over a year. Last month we sold the BlackBook (which took only 24 hours) and then purchased a MacBook Pro for him. He finally gets it and he can't shut up about it. He's a big guy and opted for the 15". I must say, I do notice a difference in our displays... his being sharper and brighter. Otherwise, they work identically. I had originally scaled down from an older 15" MBP to the BlackBook and didn't miss the bulk and weight at all. Hate to admit that now that the 15" is so sleek, I could almost handle the size. But to sum up, one year and three months later, this little MB is working PERFECTLY and I still can't put it down!

I've had my late Alu MacBook for just under a month now, & everything about it is amazing apart from the screen. The blacks are so flushed out & viewing angles are rubbish. Anyone know if the LCD from the new 13" MacBook Pro would work as a replacement?

the only real difference i noticed is that applications end up crashing a whole lot more >(

Most probably this is bad RAM playing up. Any OS assumes that hardware is 100% reliable i.e. software won't recover from RAM glitch. SL has larger footprint in RAM and obviously uses it up more (therefore heats it up more and makes more frequent accesses to it.) Marginally good RAM that worked OK in Leopard could start giving problems under heavier OS.

Al Macbook hard drive support

I've got a macbook aluminum, about a year old and I'm looking to upgrade the stock hard drive in it. I've read somewhere that this can be awkward as the firmware built into the macbook to protect the head on the drive if it's dropped can interfere with hard drives that already have this built in, leading to lots of 'cycles' on the hard drive in a short space of time. I am aware there are some fixes available for this, am I understand this correctly or does this only happen to the newer 13" MBP, and not the 13" Macbook Aluminum?

Cheers

Have you tried calibrating your screen? When i did it i managed to improve things quite a bit but its still not as good as the MBPS or the new MacBooks

Yes, it improved the colours a little but nothing it seems can make the blacks anywhere near as deep as on the newer MacBook Pros / Older MacBook Pros. What I wish to know is if the connections for connecting the LCD are the same on the new 13" MPB as the 13" Alu MB. I've compared the two iFixIt guides & after removing the bottom panel, all the instructions are exactly the same for the MPB as the MB.

Update on my Snow Leopard experience thusfar. System is as unstable as it ever was. In fact, I think that there are more bugs in this supposed "bug fixer" as there are in Leopard. :(

That said, I can't go back because of all the subtle new features, like the Mail program, which allows you to delete e-mails with the Delete button, what incredible innovation! :D

Otherwise my MacBook is holding up quite nicely, save for a corner dent, which must have happened when I dropped the MacBook while it was in its case. At least it's in a place where it's not really noticeable. :p

Just thought I'd chime in and let you know all is well. This is the first lappy I have owned in a long time that I didn't feel itchy about upgrading after its first year was over. ;)

Yeah there isn't much difference with the pro's until you start looking at the 15" with 9600 in it. But theres a big jump in cost up to that machine. :p

No 15-inch is too big. I hope that once Steve Jobs dies, Apple makes something smaller than 13-inch. :p

Woah! that's cold

Well, think of the millions of Mac people who are left in the cold because Mr. Jobs steadfastly holds on to his own stubborn beliefs. Remember dropping FireWire? How about Blu-ray being a "bag of hurt?" Or no second mouse button on my Mac (he caved creatively on that one)!

The PC world is quickly moving to 12-inch netbooks and below. Thank goodness we're getting a tablet on Wednesday, otherwise we'd be locked out of that trend too.

Well he doesn't have to die, he could just move on and let someone take over who would open up more options in the product line. I got tired of waiting for years for an xMac and finally built my own but I would have been happier to give my money to Apple.

Yea, but when he does that Wall Street freaks out. The reality is that many people could take over, now that the overall company design objectives have been established. :)

Loving this - thus far.

yeah I'm late in this game but I'm VERY stoked.

Just purchased a MB_Aluminum UniBody 2008/2009 model year.
Came with everything, even a SEALED OS X Snow Leopard DVD, Box non-used screen wipe, 4GB & 250GB HDD! Wow ... even the bag the box came in!! This guy's wife babied this thing.

Trying to format the HDD clean using C from start but the DVD Snow Leopard doesn't show me the options to Format Install like Panther/Tiger did.
