Chassis -- for those of you who live and die by BMWs and Mercedes Benzes, this is definitely the German ubercar of computing. A total brick, man!

As a BMW owner, I totally get the German Engineering analogy. In fact, I bet they are ticked that the Alum MB wasn't their idea!

Seriously, my experience was ordering it online the day of the Keynote and receiving it configured to my specs 3 days later. How can they do that?!!

This is my 3rd Mac notebook purchase: MBP, Blackbook, and now this one. Ahh this one... the best of the lot; really. Every bit a MBP but smaller, lighter, and less expensive. I'd forgotten how great the backlit keys are. I even think the black keys make it better. I have absolutely no complaints. I haven't even tweaked the display yet. It's rich in color, not washed out at all.

Fahrvergnügen!

well, its official. I am now a MacBook owner. This device beats all of my expectations by far. It screams quality and fulfills my technical cravings. This device has so much design beauty that my Desktop cant compete. I wasn't really in the market for a new computer, let alone a laptop, but I would rather sell my plasma over this machine.

Coming from Vista is a little challenging, I actually think Vista is a great system, I have yet to lose data and my Desktop screams speed and power. But now I have my MacBook which works even faster and cleaner.

A couple of Mac Apps I have found to make OSX the sh1z are:
Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/?from=getfirefox
MultiCluch http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/27016/multiclutch adds multi touch swipe to firefox and every other app
FoxMarks http://www.foxmarks.com/
Adium http://www.adiumx.com/
iStat Pro Widget http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
Wallsaver http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/justforfun/wallsaver.html
Growl w/Growl Tunes http://growl.info/
Qucksilver http://quicksilver.en.softonic.com/mac

If you guys have any must have apps, can you please point me in a direction?
Thanks! So, if you are just reading on this thread, enough reading - go get one, you can always return it if its just not for you. 8)

Thanks for suggesting this. Since many new MacBook owners are coming from Windows, I thought it would be handy to have a software list, like yours, added to the first post of this thread.

But I don't know how to exactly address the differences between Windows and the Mac OS but maybe someone here has seen a great online resource that covers this topic. :)

Klondike Forever

I came across this Solitaire game for Mac. For those of you who miss the Windows Solitaire, i think this is actually pretty good. It's called Klondike Forever.

It's time to turn our attention to nice slipcases for the new MacBook. Please post what you are using to protect the MB's finish. I'm traveling today and still have to use that plastic sleeve that came with the packaging!

Day 5

Today is officialy day 5 since I purchased my new MacBook from the Apple Store. It is also officially day 5 of it sitting in my room waiting to be unboxed. Poor computer :(, It's lonely while I'm still stuck in the library studying for midterms.....Can't wait until I have time to go home and play with my lonely MacBook.

Has anyone else had any problems upgrading to 4GB of RAM? I got a new 2.4Ghz Alum Macbook two days ago. I purchased 4GB of memory from Fry's (Patriot Brand - never heard of them before). Anyway after the upgrade my MB has locked up twice, both times during a time machine backup. Also the screen was black except for about an inch across the top where i could see the desktop. I've just reinstalled the original 2GB of memory to see if i can make it happen again but was wondering if anyone else has seen the same behavior.

That sounds like a textbook case of bad memory. If the system behaves itself with the original memory I'd swap that Fry's stuff out ASAP. As for the brand, I've had pretty bad luck with 'value' brands such as Patriot, PNY and KByte in the past (upwards of 50% failure rate out of box...). If you really want to do a bit of extensive testing, check out Memtest 86+

I just picked up thhe 2.4GHz MacBook Pro on Sat. Perfect timing too since my old PB G4 just started in with a clicking HD and the warranty just ran up. So far I love the machine; the glossy screen and chicklet keyboard are not as bad as I though they would be and the ability to compile most of my projects in under 5 minutes is a nice benefit :)

This may be a stupid question but is the screen on the MB an HD screen? How are movies and videos on it? And how are the colors on the screen? Are they adjustable?

My 1330 has a great LED screen and usually thats the biggest selling point for me... im thinking of getting the base 2.0 model.

Since 1280x720 pixels is HD (it's the 720p HD standard), you might call it an HD screen, yes. It is not a 1080p HD screen, however. The screen is, at this time, simply too small to have such a high resolution. And as 1080p is usually referred to as being full HD, the MacBook's screen is not. It is just HD, if that makes any sense.

Well, I've had mine 5 days now, and at the risk of sounding like a pure fanboy, I just can't say enough good things about this machine. It is quite simply one of the nicest computers I have ever owned, and even stock 1299 it runs both WoW and Warhammer flawlessly, in addition to the real work I bought it for. In fact -- I literally have no reason to keep my desktop PC anymore, so I put it up on Craigslist for a song.

I am very happy with my purchase, and plan on getting 4 or 5 great years out of it.

Couldn't be bothered typing, so I made a video. It's small and highlights the only fit that I have about the system, to date.

YouTube video

good video showing the problem, let's hope apple addresses it

I think people are better off keeping what they have until apple officially addresses the problem, if you just get an exchange you may end up in the same boat or have additional problems

well yea mine is really annoying me.
the clicking sound after every word i type. the words are smooth just this click is annoying me.
i understand the space bar is bigger but i have a wired and wireless aluminum apple keyboard and it doesn't do this.

ill take it in tomorrow. i mean i paid 1800$ for this thing i would like it to be near perfect and not annoyed haha just wondering if this was common!

1800 for what? The Keyboard?

Hi guys! First post here. I just got the $1299 Macbook. It's the first mac I have ever owned. I got it mostly because I'm a first year technology teacher and some of the classes I teach are on Macs (i.e. Web Design and Sound Production) and I felt like I needed more hands on time with my own Mac.

So far, I am loving it. I'm taking it real slow and have been learning how to use the O/S for the past several days. After that, I want to jump into the ilife 08 suite.

You will love iLife '08. It's great. My favorite App on it is iWeb. You can build sites extremely simply on it, it's great.

Hey there, congrats on your new purchase! I too am a first time Mac owner. I just got my 2.0ghz Macbook on Sunday. So far it was performed flawlessly.

I am excited to learn the OS and put it throught its paces. :D

rruter...

I have the same problem with the keyboard. What did Apple say when you took it in? I don't really know if they would exchange it without having to pay the restocking fee.

Thanks

Office for Mac

Guys, I just had a very intimate experience with Entourage setting up a couple of email accounts and WOW... I'm so impressed. Besides the stupidity of the fact that you can't use a .pst file from Windows Office, everything went sooo smooth. I have all my old emails and accounts set up in Entourage and so far so good.. Every time i work with something, I'm so blown away by the ease of working with Mac OS!! I think everybody who has been a Windows user in the past will agree :) haha..

1800 for the computer (with ram upgrade)
im saying i want a perfect machine for the amount i paid. my space bar is loose i think thats the problem.
i might take it into the apple store tomorrow.

I'd be camped on their doorstep in the morning! I wouldn't expect anything less than perfect... which by the way, mine is... and so should yours.

My function keys are a bit slanted, although it hasn't annoyed me much yet.

Same here, but I'm not bothered by it. I'm definitely one to stick up for myself if I feel like I'm getting ripped off but this is not really an issue to me.

I think this may be from how the keyboard is assembled. I wonder if it's from have pressure on one side of the key when putting them in place.

Yes, everyone's should be perfect. I have heard about slanted keys, loose spacebars, etc.. Are people looking at the keyboards too hard?
