As a musician who planned on using an Apogee Duet or any of the multiple Firewire audio interfaces to link up with Logic Studio all I can say is, if there really is no firewire: **** you Apple.

all i have to go on now is the hope that these leaked shots are fake or that apple has another solution up there sleeves.

however i hate the fact that there are a lot of people that think Apple knows whats best for the consumer no matter what and praise them endlessly.

Well I'm pretty sure there is a hole there under the tape, that's what it looks like to me but I can't prove anything, but also if you look at the inside of the case it looks like there is another different piece of tape (as in not one solid piece of tape that just wraps around from front to back) on the inside in the same spot.

I think you are right. Not to be a downer, but is there a (very unlikely) chance that it is just a USB port? Some Vaio's (and others) have USB ports towards the front, seemingly just for temporary access for things like USB drives. I will be the first to admit that a gimmicky thing like that is unlike Apple, but seem less likely than access for a display.

Just to immediately negate my last point: if the port is a DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI, it might actually make sense. When connecting a current MBP, I prefer to have all of the cords behind it, but that makes accessing the optical drive more challenging. If the optical drive is moved to the opposite side from the display connection it would (at least for me) make my current arrangement for organized.

Adaptater that would plug where exactly? USB ports? Way to fail.

There's no verification of that, it could stay FW-800 for all we know, as the port is exactly the same between 800, 1600 and 3200

Adapter to ETHERNET.

As for 3200, it's already an approved standard, and Apple is gonna adopt it as a main differentiator to the rest of the inferior PCland.

I don't get it either. I never ever look at my keyboard. Regardless, there are people who are passionate about backlit.

It's a tremendous help when you're computing in front of the TV or in other dimly lit locations. While I'm an accomplished typist, I often have to look for odd symbols, and that takes looking at the keyboard. Besides, since Apple pioneered this technology it would be nice if they made it a universal notebook feature. :)

That's OK from now on when I see FTW I'll just assume they mean "Free The Whales", then I will laugh in my head at them talking about freeing whales and will be mildly amused instead of mildly annoyed
That is a resplendent suggestion.

My understanding (just from what someone else said in this or another thread) was that no device currently can saturate a FW800 connection, so what kind of devices would make use of a FW1600/FW3200 connection?

It seems odd to use FAIL/fail/fail-variant on a day of such undeniable WIN.

edit: unless you were planning to use FW on your new MB...then I empathize with your feeling of great FAIL.

I have nothing against backlit keyboards, and I've never used one, but I've also never said "Man, I wish I had a backlit keyboard" so I'd just like to get an understanding on this.

I usually touch-type, but I just can't seem to do it when I'm in a bizarre situation (e.g. half-lying in my bed), and since these positions usually occur under low-light conditions a backlit keyboard would be nice.

It's not ethernet, it's rj-45 (FW-S800T = FireWire over rj45, FW over ethernet doesn't make sense)

Apple's latest SSD can sustain > 200MB/s read on big files. FW800 is limited to ~100MB/s.

Also, it's trivial to saturate FW800 if you transfer from/to RAM.

camera card slot. That's where they are on every other computer so it would make sense if that's what it was. I would like a camera card reader. Never used firewire but use my card reader all the time and with 16 and 32gb sd cards on the market it's a good thing to have.

No cup holder? Epic fail, Apple.

make it a cup warmer/holder and that's the one thing that might make people ignore the lack of firewire considering how hot they've been in the past.

that said, as an apple tech once informed me after i asked about heat issues, 'have you ever noticed we don't call them laptops?'

Without checking, I'd assume AAPL's stock prices, however I believe that will change in say....24 hours :p

APPL up 8.33% as of 2:06 EST....that's the WIN. BTW FYI the DJIA is up 541 or 6.41% = "a day of undeniable WIN."

also, new MB/MBP = doubleplusgood = WIN

9to5 is reporting that the port on the MBP is actually a battery release button. I don't buy it though because isn't the HD normally on the left side of Mac's? also if it is why does the MB not have it? And what is the circle one beside the supposed port...or tape? Is that the sleep led?
