Thats where $800 comes. Now I wouldn't be surprised if mb is stripped more than just lack of FW. Might be batteries are internal or memory is soldered to motherboard... But hey, mb will be thinner and lighter! Just look at the ipod trend- every time apple come up with new one it has to be thinner and lighter. Personally I hate current nano design. Probably not just me.
As for mbp it seems it will be less wide- dvd drive is on the side now. So it might have removable hard drive. Hell if new mb or mbp will suck you can always buy older model.

There might be a usb 3.0 on the macbook and they will sell a new accessories to convert it to the FW.

You cannot just simply convert USB to FW. Completely different hardware. And as Tallest Skil said, 3.0 ain't out for some time.

I am hoping that :apple: isn't stupid/arrogant/whatever enough to ditch firewire, and does use the ethernet jack on the MB to do it. Although it seems ridiculous to ditch the actual, for reals FW port and make people use an adapter. Just leave it how it is port wise, dude!

In other words, when I get a new MB in 3 or so years (when hopefully :apple: has come down off of their MBA-type fetish, I will happily be basking in the glory of FW3200 or so, USB 3.0, and crazy @$$ fast everything else. Hurray for the rapid evolution of technology :D

I don't think the circle thing could be an ejector it does not like it is fully cut out. I looks like the sleep led, but I would think that would be in the front.

Also what happened to 17" macbook pro? Can it be that we jut see 2 models of mbp? 15" and 17"? Might be assumed mb is mbp?

did any of you guys notice the spacing is exactly the same on both up to the last sqaure port, same distance from the front of it and even spacing? well that could play in to the docking imac scheme. maybe they both are able to dock and work that way. just an observation. don't know if anyone else has brought that up;)

Maybe they share logic board design? Or maybe you are right, but what about the MBP's extra port near the front? Or maybe it isn't a port, it's a ventilation hole which makes sure the MBP doesn't cook itself to death inside a docking LCD...

Some sort of vertical dock (Wii-like) would be quite cool.

Unless of course they add FW3200 and USB 3.0 in 1 year and then drop the technology 1 year after they add it. lol j/k (I hope)

make it a cup warmer/holder and that's the one thing that might make people ignore the lack of firewire considering how hot they've been in the past.

that said, as an apple tech once informed me after i asked about heat issues, 'have you ever noticed we don't call them laptops?'

Haha wow very good observation. Never truly realized that until now.

Makes sense though when the "enclosure bottom" temperature sensor on my MB is usually hovering close to 100 F...

Props to the :apple: tech for his sense of humor! :)

Wouldn't it be on the other side then? If it was a ventilation hole and you hook it up to a dock station it would probably get covered up by the dock station

lol no kidding man. so you are saying then that ports are just a fad on :apple: laptops?
"buy the new MB with USB 4.0!"
"no, nevermind that sucked, buy the new one with new PROPRIETARY USB 4.0"
"haha got you good on that last one, the NEW-er MB is even better with a NEW PROPRIETARY USB/FW hybrid that only works with :apple: products, and implodes you laptop (ahem, "notebook computer") if you plug a Microsoft branded product into it!"
:D lol ok i'm done

3D cad? on mac? which? how? where? why? gimme!

Version 7.6 is the most recent and has been pushed out globally.

Version 8 is a serious re-design to leverage OS X 10.6.

SolidThinking Modeler was what I used at NeXT back on NeXTSTEP 3.3 around 1994, when it had PRMan built-in.

one word: DisplayPort
one hint: references to a mini-displayport built for apple by a taiwanese company
another hint: when was the last time a mac notebook had two different display ports? Cause we know that the new macbooks already have one near the USB port.

One: I guess you don't know the difference between DVI-mini(or DVI) and HDMI, becuase if you did you probably wouldn't have post this. Two: How do you know that there's a DVI-mini port on the MBP( are you Steve Jobs?). For all you know these could be fake( who really know, unless Your SJ and you have something to say).

But I could easily be wrong( that's probably why I posted so many different ideas). So what do you(SJ) think it is?

That port by the Ethernet doesn't look like a Firewire port to me. A MBP would need some external display connectivity so I'd be guessing that it is a micro-DVI port as featured on the current MacBooks.

Remote storage area?

Anyone think of this one yet?
New slimmer Apple remote and this is like a little storage area/dock?
I mean since it's a Pro you know it could be handy to actually have the thing with you at all times for presentations. Maybe even make the thing rechargeable or something.
I don't know about you guys but I feel like I can never find my remote when I want it. Just a thought.

Ok well, first off it's mini-DVI not DVI-mini, and second off, apparently you don't know the difference between mini-DVI and mini-DisplayPort.

Never thought about that - HP do that with their remote on some of the DV series.

Actually the article says "Actually to be perfectly clear, he said the battery ejector was on the side." and they think it's the circle thing, or it could be the hole in the casing that's under the tape

If it was, it would be a design flaw isn't it?

Wouldn't you accidentally eject your battery in your bag? and seriously, how would you eject using a mini button? Look at the way the battery is "ejected" now. It needs to be secure. If it was just an additional button including the current 2 buttons now at the back of the notebook, it doesn't make sense either. It would be redudant..Or do you need an additional "eject" button to be more secure?

Hmm since you need to access the battery from the back in the first place, why trouble yourself with a button at the side and make it "ugly"? It will not be flushed with the side panel. Think Aesthetics.

Can't read the whole thread right now, but the whole port thing got me to thinking; could the whole brick thing have something to do with Wireless USB? Perhaps in exchange for removing FW they're adding wireless USB capability along with an included Wireless USB hub; a "brick". While 480Mbps (theoretical) over 10 feet would be cool, I still would rather not give up FW though. But it sure would make docking stations largely unnecessary.

touch screen

all i'm saying is if they release a touch screen tablet that would answer all of the "brick" talk and speculation. also the technology is obviously out there being being the iPhone plus HP just released their touch screen desktop that slightly resembles an iMac. any thoughts? i'm puttin $50 on it!

answer this

PLEASE SOMEONE answer me THIS:

How does the invitation upper case fit the casings we've seen? Have we seen the real cases? I don't doubt it that much... I think they're real, but is the invitation showing a notebook? THAT'S the question.

Last invitation, the one in the ipod event was the new nano screen, is this one the new trackpad?? The truth is that it fits better on the trackpad slot than as an upper case...

What do you think?

That would mean they have 2 connections for external displays because if you zoom in on the pic you can see the symbol for external display connection by the port between the audio in and USB port

The invitation is showing the old Blackbook imho.
