It is getting harder for me to promote Macs!!

I have converted about 5 people to Macs in the past year.... I could have converted about 10 more in the last two weeks if Apple would finally come out with a competitive spec'd consumer Laptop !! Come on guys! Get a move on!! Lets go !! Print up some Cool Cupertino T-Shirts! And get SOMETHING out there!!! I hate selling Dells.

I was watching Fox News and there was a story about the chinese president

coming to meet with Bill Gates. Gates was basically trying to sell Microsoft to

the pres.,(I have a point to make here hold on) but was paranoid about the

rampant piracy in China. Blah blah blah, Right after this the guy says that

America fears China Economically and militarily. Their navy is building up and

will reach threatening levels. After thinking about this, and laughing quite a

bit, I realized that by selling more crappy microsoft to a potentially dangerous

country, we could more easily take care of a huge problem. Bill Gates you

truly are a smart man:rolleyes:

Oh yeah, cannot wait until the macbooks arrive.
Sry for being so random

Apple is taking too long to release the Macbook... I can wait no longer!

We have been speculating about when the new macbook is going to come out and what features it might enclose. After waiting for months, I have decided to go back to my game plan... to purchase a powerbook g4 12". I can get one on eBay for under $1200... and be satisfied eternally. I have an online class in a little over 2 months, and i really need a laptop. Anyone want to share their thoughts???

you'll be sorry.... I was gonna do the same thing only get a 14 in. ibook... Their proven right? and its a little bit bigger screen.. but i know I will kick myself when the Macbook does finally arrive... (I'm 3 weeks into my Spring quarter and I hate Mr. Jobs everytime I have to drive home from school just to use my desktop computer) but better to hate him than myself.... you know its gonna be amazing, and probobly faster than the powerbook too...

?

IS this thing coming or What? i was converted to Mac in the last year and was told to wait until the intel chips where added so I did...i have been so excited hoping for this macbook....SO whats the deal? This rumors are getting ridiculous. It seems no one really has a clue.
However...I do think it's about time this things were announced. I am pumped. I hope it is in the next couple of weeks..IF not I might look elsewhere...which I don;t want to do.
The Macbook (according to what I have read in rumors)..will be a hugely successful machine..or it has the potential to be. So maybe they are just tweaking it to make it as best as possible.
But. man....IT time!!!

I have one and I love it, but then again I've had it for 18 months. $1200 is a lot to drop on outdated tech-- that same laptop will be going for several hundred less in a month or so. Hold out for the macbook. G4s are ancient in computer years. Think of the toshiba you could have for $1200... macs are great, but not at any price.

Well said. there's no point in paying a lot of cash for a G4 now. On the other hand if you could pick one up really cheap, and you don't have huge demands then....

[beginning of off-topic]Well, you may tell beloved Fox News that China is no more dangerous than the U.S., trust me...who is thinking about attacking Iran now? Not China, I am pretty sure...[end of off-topic]

I'm just saying that everything about the MacBook will be exactly what it will be.

Thank you Captain Obvious. Maybe you should start a a "MacTruths" website where you report on everything after it has been formally announced and/or released.

There already is one of those. It's called www.apple.com :D
I wonder if burst will sue apple for that...

once again, it's NOT MB.....it is "iMB"!!!!!!!!!!!

If ignorance is bliss, than you must be the most blissful being in the universe.

That is the stupidest name I have heard. And I'm not referring to "iMacBook/iMB" either, although that is just as lame. I'm referring to your username of ChinkCummSlut.

Also, if your earlier post was referring to MacOSRumors' naming claim, then you and your infinite wisdom missed the point there too: from MacOSRumors - "As with the iMac, the iBook will continue to be the moniker (for) Apple's entry/mid-level consumer laptop."

Did you get that?! iBook, not iMacBook.

They are reporting that the iBook will retain that exact name and not use MacBook instead. In no way do they indicate that the iBook will be re-named "iMacBook", again the stupidest name I have heard.

The reason I and quite a few others feel MacOSRumors is wrong on their prediction is because SJ said himself that every Macintosh computer should have "Mac" in it, which makes complete sense. iBook does not have Mac in it, and in no way does MacRumors claim anything other than that the iBook will continue to be named an "iBook", directly contradicting SJ's statement by not including "Mac" in the name.

MacOSRumors also says: "There is no "MacBook" any more than there is, or ever will be, a desktop model called simply the "Mac."

Obviously, they are referring to the fact that some people [including myself] are wondering if the iMac will lose the "i". From a marketing perspective it makes sense, even if the "iMac" is a well known name. The point is that, dropping the "i" is not going to "confuse" anyone, and will completely align the product naming, marketing, and packaging layout scheme.

Even if Apple does drop the "i" from iMac, lots of people who don't know, or even care, will still refer to them as iMacs anyway. There won't be any lost sales do to this. Do you have any idea how much infuriates me when someone say's they're gonna "buy an Apple", or when they ask about "Apple's", when in both cases they mean Macs?! The point is that it is the APPLE LOGO that people remember more than the name, just like it is the design and OS that differentiates Macs from pEEcEE's.

Case and point; When you see two golden arches combined to make an M, do you have to be told that that is McDonalds?

Therefore the name change's benefits [consistent naming across all products lines like "MacWhatever", "MacWhatever Pro", or "MacPro Whatever"] for product naming, marketing, and packaging consistency, far outweighs any non-sensical idea that dropping the "i" from the "iMac" (that will continue to be referred to as an iMac anyway) will cause anykind of "mass confusion".

On a much more serious (and ethical) note, and has been stated and requested by other MacRumors members:

MODS, PLEASE MODERATE BLATANTLY OFFENSIVE USERNAMES LIKE "ChinkCummSlut"

I don't think iMacbook is too bad, as it stays in the "macbook" category and the "iMac/iBook consumer" category. It would be the only way to keep the naming system in order. It also means abbreviating "macbook pro" to "macbook", won't confuse it with the consumer version. Just IMO.

In a complete 360, I'm gonna somewhat agree with you... somewhat. Hey, at least I'm man enough to admit that I may be wrong about a name [iMacBook] that I originally disliked mostly because of the offense that I have taken (which quickly converted into anger) to the name of the MacRumors member's name who posted it, and therefore was biased towards a possible product name that may not be that bad, but that I feel was "stumbled" upon by that member through the misinterpretation of the MacOSRumors post.

My problem with MacRumors' member [I can't believe the MODS have still allowed this BTW ]"ChinkCummSlut's" post was that he/she/it misinterpreted the MacOSRumors claim that the new iBooks would not be called MacBooks, but rather retain the same name of simply "iBook".

ChinkCummSlut is saying that MacOSRumors is claiming that the new iBooks will be called "iMacBook" or abbreviated "iMB", and their post doesn't claim that at all.

Although I still prefer the simplified [in typical Apple fashion] "MacBook" name, iMacBook is not that bad, although it doesn't audibly emphasize "Mac" as well as it should, the way "MacBook Pro" does and should. "iMacBook" places the emphasis on the "i" pat of the name, and I feel that Apple is trying to place the hard emphasis [visually AND audibly] on the word Mac in ALL of it's Macintosh based products, which is why I hope they drop the "i" from "iMac", but that probably won't happen until a new form factor comes out for Apple's all in one Mac design.

Hard to imagine how they could make the current iMacs design better, but if anyone can, it's Apple... or more specifically, Jonathon Ives. :)

I still think it'll be called a MacBook though, and that the iMac will eventually lose the "i". From a sales presentation perspective, "Are you interested in a MacBook or a MacBook Pro?" sounds a lot cleaner than "Are you interested in an iMacBook or a MacBook Pro?" IMO.

Lol. Man if you read that out loud to yourself, it's hard to breathe. :p I agree with your post and I don't think C****C***S*** is an appropriate name on a forum for all ages - or any forum for that matter. Maybe the hold up on the macbooks/ibooks/bookmacs is deciding on a name  :D

I guess that's why they are called rumor sites, then.

AI was correct at the end of '05 predicting MacBook Pros and Intel iMacs for January '06. A couple years ago ThinkSecret gave us the exact specs of the Macs that came out of Apple. At the very least they have made us aware of when new Macs will be released.

As for people creating their own sites, that's been done. It's called macosrumors.com/.

Sorry, but are you guys still worried about a user's name, or is it just a traditional display of U.S. "morality"? Can't you just leave that job to the admins and get back on topic?

Nope, AI just got some Intel hint in the eleventh hour, as all others...as for previous rumors, they all originated from illegal internal leaks...that's why you don't see them anymore...

A word from Captain Oblivion

(Surely "Captain Obvious"? - ed.)

In February, Apple organized a medium-sized press event to announce the following:

1. An Intel Mac mini that can't play games. (This wasn't even considered the highlight of the show, with Jobs getting it over with at the beginning. But then I don't think Apple has ever "got" the Mac mini, it appears to be the poor illegitimate child of a war between those wanting a set-top-box and those wanting an economy Mac. Even if you're one of the seven people who actually liked the Mac mini redesign, the fact remains this is a machine that Apple is failing to take seriously.)
2. Overpriced iPod leather cases.
3. Stereo speakers for your iPod.

That's three products that Apple clearly isn't staking its short or long term future on, or even cares that much about the success of. If any of those products fails in the market, Apple isn't going to be overly upset when it withdraws it.

The MacBook, by all accounts, is a major product redesign and one that Apple considers very important in terms of the market it aims for. Apple is going to want to get press for it, they're going to want to demonstrate it and get potential buyers excited by the machine.

If 1-3 above can be cause enough for a press event, then I think the MacBook is certain for a press event. That means we'll know at least a few weeks ahead of time that the announcement is coming.

Which means if you're refreshing the Apple Store every hour, hoping a "We'll be back soon!" yellow sticky is going to appear, you're barking up the wrong tree.
