As noted by TUAW, the updater just downloads an app to your Utilities folder. You must then run it yourself.

So, my 17" MBP isn't on the update list. I have one of the original 17" MBPs and it has been going down hill pretty rapidly. I have many of the sleep problems described but thats not even the worst problem. I would love it if Apple got off their asses and fixed the heat issues. 190 degrees when gaming isn't acceptable. Well, of course its not acceptable. The machine locks when it gets that high.

Removing the battery drops the temp about 40 degrees. WHY ?? *40 degrees !?*

Sorry, I know my post has little to do with the topic. I am just pissed that this update won't fix the problems that my machine is having. I am also getting very pissed about Apples response to the heat issues. This is *NOT* normal.

i have a brand spankin new macbook and I was having that problem. It is fixed now. thanks apple. update was smooth and uneventful but worked perfectly. through software update. i really didn't need to do anything but DL it.

Hey guys just a quick question. After I downloaded it and opened it from the utlities section can I trash it after its down updating????? Also another quick question there was an update for ilife 08 but I don't have that. I did a clean install of Leopard and ilife wasn't on leopard. Why is it showing the update for ilife support when I don't even have ilife or aperture. Thanks.

This problem cropped up a few months ago on my 2ng gen MBP. Strangely it wasn't there at first.

I'm guessing this update actually applies to the EFI (similar to BIOS).

Yes, you can delete it from your Utilities folder. But why? It's only 1.9mb. Not sure what the problem is with iLife. Do a quick search of the forums.

Ok well just like that one poster said I do have itunes which I didn't know was part of ilife. So maybe thats why it shows up.

What about us Tiger users?

I am so over Apple at the moment:mad:

If it's not broke, don't fix it. Leopard is a new operating system, thus it needs to catch up to the quality that Tiger was providing for a lot of users. You should feel pleased that your OS doesn't need patches at the moment - that probably means that there aren't many problems to be resolved :)

I have been complaining about this problem for so long and I am happy to see apple is taking this issue seriously. I just installed with no problems so far and it has not required a reboot. I hope I will not have this issue the next time I come to my mbp after it has been sitting idle for a while.

EDIT #1: I did the update through Software Update as usual and it confirmed having downloaded and installed. Then I continue doing what I was doing and a program pops up called something like "Firmware 1.0 keyboard installer" and had the apple charger brick as an icon. So anyways i proceeded with its supposed second installation and no problems so far. Just figured I should put this out here so nobody gets worried. It took maybe 2 or 3 minutes after having closed software update for this installer to pop up.

EDIT #2: The icon is not the power brick but the "apple" or "Command" button of an apple keyboard.

I have this issue and its driving me mad,I refuse to buy a crappy OS to fix an issue that should be resolved regardless of OS.A keyboard should not be skipping like this.
