still having Leopard kb issues

My keyboard going dead at random but frequent moments while in Excel 04 (and more rarely, in Word 04) is still not fixed-- not that this update promised to fix it, but it is a keyboard issue I've had only since 10.5.0. Two OS updates, and now two keyboard updates have not changed this behavior that was not there in 10.4.x.

Weirdest part is, I've found that the keys to switch Spaces still work, and when returning to the Space with Excel, bring it back to life!

This on a 2.2 GHz MBP

Hey guys!
Everytime I am running "Software update", even after installing the keyboard firmware update, it is still showing up everytime as a new update??????!!!!!

The standalone updater doesn't work for me either, so I'm starting to suspect we have a dud update from Apple here. As eager as I was to get my dropped keypress issue fixed, I may just hang loose until Apple releases version 1.1 of this updater. One that will actually, you know, install.

I guess I should be glad we got all the way to 10.4.11, in defiance of decimal logic?
Version numbers aren't decimals. They just look that way. And logic never did anyone any good.
1.9Mb? The download page at Apple specifically lists it at " File Size: 876KB". Did we get a bit off topic and start discussing some other update?

Mine showed up the same; it probably was compressed for download. If you can cut the file size in half for download, you've cut bandwidth needed in half, and when you're dealing with such large numbers as Apple is, it makes a difference.

Did anybody else happen to notice the icon? It isn't quite right for the new MacBooks... somewhat strange that Apple would forget about their new keyboard policy?
(I have to say, I personally am a fan of the Command symbol, but then again, that's what I've been used to for most of my life... and I understand the change... maybe somebody at Apple also had nostalgia?)

I've been having this problem since I got my MacBook Pro, which was long before Leopard.

I'm so glad that they've finally fixed it. I thought it was me being stupid for the longest time until I stumbled across a thread on the Apple support forums with a few pages of people discussing the same problem.

ooray!

Yeah I thought it was me being stupid for a while too -- for example, not hitting the first key hard enough...but then I saw that monstrous thread on the Apple boards. Hopefully this truly fixes the issue.

Tiger users experience this issue too, sorry to say.

I could have sworn there was a keyboard driver update shortly after the Santa Rosa Macbooks were released. I guess it's possible that that was only for Leopard too though. Does that mean they broke it again, and now released another update for it? That's kind of goofy.

I do hope they fix the audio popping/clicking bug that appeared again in Leopard. It's driving me nuts.

Anyone know if this fixes the typing lag that affects Mail.app when hitting reply and beginning to compose a response?

It was an issue in early versions of Tiger, was fixed in 10.4.7, and then reintroduced as a bug in 10.4.11.

I think this fix is Leopard only. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

FYI, Software updated downloaded the update to my Applications/Utility folder just like it said. It did *not* autorun the update like it said it would though. I ran it manually and everything seems to be working fine now.

I've noticed myself double typing first characters because I had become so accustomed not having the first letter be recognized lol...

Really Weird

The first time I actually had a problem with my new MBP was this morning, and it was with my keyboard....and look...a keyboard update.

I think there was a problem with the 10.5.2 update and they found it before too many people complained.

Nope, this has been a problem for a long time. Dated back before Leopard even. I would point you to the "ELP" thread on the Apple support site, but they started deleting all threads about the keyboard issues months ago. I'm surprised they released a fix, since it looked like there were just going to ignore it.

I only noticed the keyboard issue after updating my MacBook to 10.5.2, but I've heard of other people having that issue in previous versions of Mac OS X. Glad that Apple has fixed it.

This came as quite a surprise. Between Leopard update, this update, and all other recent updates my mac is getting better and better each day!

the update doesn't show up for my core duo MBP. i ran software update 2 or 3 times, but nothing. guess I don't need it. I haven't noticed the problem on my machine...

A bit of an odd question - just tried to install the keyboard update, but was told that I have to be connected to an AC source. Why?

It is only a few hundred kb, so not a major install - I have 98% battery life which should suffice - now I have to wait 9-10 hours until I get home and have access to the power cable.

Seems a bit odd to me.
