Thanks for the reply, IceFusion. I knew there must be a reason for this.

Ta

I believe this is because it updates the actual firmware on the computer, and if the update process is interrupted (example: battery runs out), the process gets interrupted and your keyboard may not work at all.

Hello,

I've downloaded the update for my MacBook and all I can say is "wow!", the update fixed the keystroke issue as well as the issue with using my external display with the lid down. So I 'm currently really happy.

cheers,

mp :)

Can you elaborate on the issue with using an external display with the lid down?

When will it be possible to turn off the MacBook display and run off the external only?!

So here's the dilemma. Stick with Tiger and lose the first key stroke after keyboard inactivity or reinstall Leopard, fix the keyboard issue but lose airport connectivity. Hmmm.....

Thanks Apple for finding a fix. :D
F-U Apple for making it for Leopard only.

I have severe drop outs in Tiger with the older Airport Extreme(g), I agree with ya 110%
F U :apple:

I've never had any problems with that...

I have an external keyboard, mouse, display and I shut the lid. When it goes to sleep you press any key on the keyboard or press the mouse to wake it.

After reading this post this morning, i immediatly ran software update on my macbook CD 1.83ghz running Leopard.

No updates found. C2D only?

Edit: didn't read the above comment. Guess my old macbook is more reliable than the new ones eh? ;)

Oh wow..

I have to admit that when buying this computer I kinda expected the keyboard to work correctly without me having to pay over 100€ six months later just to get a firmware update..

WOW!! thank god I saw this, this morning!!!
at first I thought I was goin crazy but then thought i had a fault with my new macbook keyboard and had resorted lastnight to BASHING the keys!!!
happened a great deal for me especially when you are flicking between apps and Vmware!

its now obvious something in 10.5.2 broke this!

Hurrah!

It's good that they fixed the issue, but if you ask me Apple should be ashamed that it was an issue at all. After all, they control both the hardware and the software, which is supposed to prevent problems like these. I mean, we're talking about the built-in keyboard, not some exotic 3rd party add-on. And keyboards are only the primary computer input device since before Apple even existed as a company. How they could screw up something as basic as that (see also the other fix, were the keyboard become unresponsive at random times) is really beyond me

HUM! now I guess I wil have to wait for Apple to fix my updates so that they maybe show when I click software update!!!

I had to manually download this

Hey, my keyboard is "snappier" now.......

Just downloaded it for my Santa Rosa MacBook, it didn't automatically start though.

I had to run it manually.

Went from version 0.04 to 0.07

The graphics update that immediately followed the 10.5.2 update made it impossible to connect to an external monitor or HDTV while using clamshell mode (done by closing the computer, letting it sleep, and then waking it with an external mouse/keyboard/apple remote while connected to the screen).

I started a thread here about the issue but it fizzled out but there is a huge thread about it on the Apple discussion site.

The solution was the go back to a previous version of the OS and install only the 10.5.2 update, ignoring the graphics update.

I have no idea why it was said the keyboard firmware update fixes this issue. I cannot see how they are connected and I have no desire to install the graphics update to find out.

c2d mb 2.2ghz 4gb, 10.5.2

Downloaded it, then software update sat there telling me it was completed. Installer didn't activate.

Then I quit software update, and then the keyboard installer activated.

So you guys, maybe you need to quit software update first. Not saying this will work for everyone, am sure most of you have already done this.

yep same here.

I can't speak for him, but I use a flash drive to keep my work stuff on, and when I close the lid and re-open it I can no longer use the flash drive. This update finally fixed that issue.

errr... My Macbook gets warmer if I disable one core (processor preferences) because the heat is concentrated on one core and thus is harder to cool. Batteries are warm when in use, especially when charging. Also, removing the battery allows air to get directly to the laptop's frame which is good for cooling.

I have never noticed "processor preferences" anywhere on my MacBook, where are they ?

My guess is that Nappi purchased his MB with Tiger (which did not receive the fix) and does not want to pay 100 Euro for Leopard to get the fix.
