This looks like someone took all of our hopes and dreams and then wrote an article saying they have a source that this is what is coming. They are not telling us that the source is all of us here at macrumors listing our wish lists. If this is true, it will be amazing but I am one of those if it sound too good to be true... people

Omg.. There's no way Apple would give us ALL that in one update. That would be friggin incredible!! MODULAR bay!?

WOW!!! This will make waiting MacBook-less since August completely worth it. If true, the lack of high res seems disappointing, but considering the price is lower overall, it's all good.

As if my anticipation for the new Radiohead album this week needed more competition!!!

I agree. I truly want to believe this, but it sounds way too good to be true.. Let's hope it does come though :).

I checked out other articles on the site, and it seems he has at least been pretty reasonable in the past. Wishful thinking...

First Post? its post 1027

I think e means his own first post on the site

Haha yeah you're right, I meant it's my first post. I guess I could have been more descriptive though I thought it was obvious enough.

Rofl at all our hopes and dreams!

I agree though :p

The article really does sound too good to be true. BUT OH GOD DO I WANT TO BELIEVE IT!!!!:D

Just going to try and only expect CPU upgrade, but hope for basically everything listed in that article (which is everything I want)

I don't believe it. Mainly because of the 20% lighter, and the amorphous alloy.

In all fairness, this sounds like liquid metal - lighter and stronger, as well as the casting method. People sometimes forget that there is more to it than just a colour difference.

lol, I didn't forget, and am aware that they are describing liquid metal. And I am well aware of its amazing properties.

I have made it clear in the past that I do not believe Apple would start using Liquid Metal by building an entire notebook case out of it. It would be far more reasonable to expect an iPhone made from the stuff first.

Does anybody have an idea on what they think pricing will be for the top end MBP 13" model?

Likely within 100 bucks of the present price.

If true, the lack of high res seems disappointing

The site says: It will retain it’s current BTO hi-res display option, but will also gain the matte display option on the standard resolution configuration.

Do you mean Hi-res as standard?

Thanks for this. Gosh I hope so, that would be great!:)

yes, part of me wishes for the high res but i don't feel like putting up the cash. that said, this rumor also shows a big price drop so no real reason not to get it.

Sandy Bridge should give a good boost over i5.

For example, the quad i7-2630qm (so low end it is OEM only) is faster than the previous top of the line quad i7-940xm. It also uses less energy and has its own 320m-class GPU on the die. Wow!

This makes me very optimistic that the base Sandy Bridge i5 will be faster than the previous gen i7-640m. That would be great!

For GPU, I would really like to see a Radeon HD 6650M. This is a new GPU which has 480 shader cores versus 400 in the previous gen mid range Radeon GPU (5650, 5670, 5730, 5750, 6550). Based on my experience on the Windows side, the Radeon 5650 was usually faster than the 330m and has enormous upside for people who like to OC - about 40 percent higher performance without causing damage.

I love the current MBP chassis. The screen is top notch. Perhaps and eSata or USB 3 ports would be nice.

But for the most part, its the insides that have excited.

If that is true I will be dumping my MBP 15" at a big loss. I really wanted expresscard on my 15". eSata, Apogee audio interfaces, UAD etc.
The rounded edges, way too good to be true.
The only question that remains, does it come in BLACK!?

PS and I hope this wont debut yet another apple video connector, as they seem to always do for a major refresh.

Oh lawdy if that rumour is true, I'll be so extremely happy. Conversely, I'd kick myself if I indulged and had purchased the current model... A LM chassi would just be perfect, and I'd be set for a while, but since it only has been implemented in smaller parts of the iPhone, I doubt it. Then again, the Macbook Pro isn't a product I find Apple is likely to dismiss, rather the contrary I'd expect them to try to boost their sales considering the success of the iToys. Remember kids, iPods, iPhones and iPads are gateway drugs.

Unfortunately the price of the change from aluminium to LM is something I know nothing about, as I believe there are many different kinds of LM, and I have no idea of their costs, but I think it's very likely that when produced in large quantities it may very well be much cheaper than aluminum. Maybe we won't see it in the next refresh, but I'd say definately within a few years.

Unfortunately the rumor claims that the MacBook Pro 13" will retain the optical disk drive, which means no dedicated GPU and no dual SSD - HDD configuration. Are there any benchmarks out there for the mobile version of the Intel HD3000 IGP? What frequencies does it run at? Doesn't this GPU have a ridiculously low amount of CUDA Cores? I just can't believe it will be an upgrade to the Nvidia GeForce 320M.

Yes, it has a "ridiculously low amount of CUDA cores", ie. zero. CUDA is a programming language that ONLY works on NVIDIA graphics cards.

The idea is sound, however. The Intel GPU does not support OpenCL.

The 13" MBP is unlikely to receive a graphics performance boost. However will receive a very large CPU performance boost.

In summary, if you want a dedicated GPU, get a 15" MBP.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind an integrated GPU, so long as it's an improvement over the current 320M, which was after all twice as fast as the 9400M.

I'm going to predict no LM cases this time around... We haven't even had a leaked production picture yet... I'd guess that there isn't much of a change beyond a boost in CPU and maybe some changes to the ODD... If you look at all the sites talking about these dream updates they all point to MacTrast as there source... My guess is they just gave us a dream list to up there traffic.

**Will not get my hopes up... I won't... I won't.... I WON'T!**

Anandtech reviewed the 3000 IGP and it is pretty clsoe to teh 320m.

In their tests the Intel was faster, but it was paired with a SB mobile quad that is light years faster than the 2.4 GHz C2D in the 13" MBP.

In a slower dual core config, I am pretty sure the 3000 IGP would be equal or slower than the 320m. But the battery life boost could be huge (12 maybe 14 hours from teh same battery is paired with SSD).
