No Sales tax on shipments outside of the following states:

Illinois - 9%
Wisconsin - county sales tax determined by delivery point (5%-6.1%)
Indiana - 7%
Michigan - 6%

Oh guess I was wrong & the 16 is now arriving in stores. Anyway 2 weeks ago it was all 8gb ones...

I am guessing we are now approaching general availability with many shops stocking them and Asia shipping.

What time did you place the order? I am in the same timezone as you. On the plus side, if we wait long enough we won't need to install Mountain Lion since the machine will come with it already pre-installed! :p

Relax. I placed my BTO order on 6/12 and it only went to preparing yesterday (july 12). SE Asia / Thailand.

Actually though, I AM at my dad's house right now, which is in Minnesota... if I had it shipped here with next day air, and they would be willing to match the Education Discount... that would bring the total price down to about $2,260, which wouldn't be much more than I'll be paying with my Apple order (I used the Edu Discount + 5% Discover Cashback) :eek:

Although I don't know what I'm going to do with the $100 BTS gift card, I already received it :confused: I suppose I'd have to send it back, they've already temporarily charged me the $100.

Okay, Abt's 'live chat' is a joke, I've been waiting for 10 minutes :rolleyes:

Same here! They've also got the 2.6/16/512 in stock, which is what I ordered, but this is my first order through a reseller so I'm a little nervous!

Still, though, if all goes fine: what I would have paid for tax can now go towards AppleCare!

I paid $70 for next-day air shipping and feel it was worth every penny to not have to wait until 07/23-07/28 (I placed my original order on 06/23).

Is there anything I should know about dealing with a reseller? I hope this isn't one of those 'too good to be true' moments, I'm so pumped right now!
 
Bollocks my UPS handover date has been moved by one day and they're doing the stupid China > Kazakhstan > Germany > London (via truck) method. That doesn't even make sense. Find it hard to believe a logistics company can't get a direct flight to London from Shanghai.

And it is obvious that Apple does not have FIFO manufacturing system based on order date... What Apple's system seems to be based on is the delivery date range....

I can see the Apple executive meetings now... Reviewing the charts with 100% deliveries within the estimated range of delivery dates... Completely ignoring the fact that customers who ordered first were penalized with later delivery dates, etc... Which was likely caused by changes in parts availability.

In fairness, Apple's approach does make sense because normally the earlier the order date, the earlier the delivery date... and as long as customers receive their products within the promised range of delivery dates they will have no issues, right... And Interestingly, without blogs like this, customers would not realize that this was happening.

So, what can one do... And if we do nothing, Apple will not change.

Well the next time I order an Apple product with a delivery delay of several weeks, I am going to check each day to see if I can get a earlier range of delivery dates and, if I can, I will place a second order... Then, when one order moves into "preparing to ship", I will cancel the second order... If I had done this with this order, I would have gotten my rMBP over a week ago... and, if done by enough customers, it would negatively impact Apple's supply chain, etc... and they would fix it.

By the way, using expedited shipping, FedEx delivered to the Calif. bay area in a little less than 2 days.

#firstworldproblems !!!

I know having to wait for a product for a month sucks, and I am sure they are seeing many cancellations because of that. But they also know that those people who cancelled are not going to buy a Dell instead; they are going to pick one up in a store or order it again later.

Its a good problem to have when your products are so popular that you cant make enough. The rMBP is peerless - there is nothing like it, there is no alternative. Hence the demand. Apple can handle a world wide release with huge demand pressure better than any company - but theres a limit. When the iPad came out Steve Jobs biggest worry was "can we make one every 3 seconds"... same thing here.
 
can u check again? cos mine is alr at shipping and i'm in asia. no reason why yours should be put off?

So in short, I'll most likely just cancel my order and get my $3000 back if nothing happens by the 21st. Don't let my story scare you though. Virtually everyone else is getting their computers before the estimated dates. Thanks for reading.

I ordered on the 13th, still processing, called Apple for some assurance, lady told me that I might not get my computer within the July 14-21 timeframe.

I'm talking to a customer service guy right now! I can't believe it's only $2,179... no tax if I have it sent to my dad's house in Minnesota which is where I am right now... Saturday delivery is nearly $85! :eek: I can deal with that though... I'm already getting an excellent deal :D

Mine delivered earlier today but they didn't ring the bell and left it without a signature!!! Totally strange. Was on a conference call and near the front door when I noticed a brown box near my door. Surprise it was my rMBP. Migration has gone as expected so I'm having to restore Lion and try again! Hoping the second time is a charm. Hope all of you enjoy your new computers
 
Did you get a working tracking number? I also got an email at 23:00 saying its shipped, but the DHL tracking number isn't showing up on their system yet.

Must remember I'm in Thailand and should expect things to be delayed and be happily surprised when they are on time. Versus the US where I expect things to be on time, and happy when early (though it seems early is now the expectation). I think as long as it arrives BKK during business hours today, I can get it cleared through customs and delivered Monday. The extra charger, which I got weeks ago, took 3 days to clear Thai customs.

Every time I checked the iStudio in central world, they had a few retina's in stock and plenty of the new Airs. But I can't stand the thai key board with the back lighting...

Just checked, and you are right It's at preparing for shipment right now. If it ships sometime today, I should get it tomorrow or the next day.

I haven't seen any July orders go out. As of today, I believe that Apple are working (primarily) on June 19th orders. There have been a few that have been ordered later than that that have shipped, but even then, none have been in the July range.
 
And I bought it from Abt! $2,263.35, with overnight Saturday delivery + student discount! I'm so happy :D

Gonna call Apple later tonight and cancel my current order :)

A huge thanks to 'kdoug' for posting about it! You saved me 2 weeks plus a whole lot of Best Buy troubles! :D

Oh yeah don't want the thai keyboard either, another reason for me to go BTO...

Got the notice same as you 23:00 yesterday so I guess ours are on the same flight. Tracking number doesn't work. People above have posted that it can take a good while before it starts working.

3 days for clearing customs is ridiculous. My iPad 3, also ordered from the thai online store, didn't have any customs delays. As it should be, Apple's got to have some sort of special deal where they whizz things through customs.

I am in Chiang Mai so you'll most likely get yours first :)

anyway, i've got an airwaybill number, but no updates there.. i guess when they said 24 hours, they really meant it.

biglobe > just wait, u should get it. u ordered only slightly later than us. u should prolly check early next week.

anyway do u happen to know if epicentre or istudio has started stocking the rmbps?

and whether they stock only stock options? i'm just curious. i've been too stuck in an office these few days to have time to check.

lol.. i have been like checking at twice the rate after you said yours have went into preparing. but still no updates for mine :rolleyes:

seeing what happened to axlvtt really made me so disappointed with apple. i'm not sure if i will even enjoy the rmbp after knowing this mess.

anyway most stores in SG have them in stock long ago, albeit with very small numbers. so far they carry only the basic configs.
 
I just kicked myself to the back of the line. Cancelled my order so I can reorder from my company discount website. Will save just over $300 for the same machine so it's worth it to me. Bumped you all up a number. You're welcome :D
