any movement on the 2-3 weeks club :(

by the way guys, anyone though about cases  we need to protect this baby because if anything goes wrong it won't be cheap...

Personally, I'm waiting for Incase to come out with a sleeve for it.

If you like the look of carbon fiber, iCarbons just came out with their MBPR skin: http://www.icarbons.com/collections/featured/products/macbook-pro-15-retina-black-carbon-fiber

I've got one of those on my iPad and love it. It's a textured 3M film that actually feels like carbon fiber, and is laser cut to fit each device. Super easy to put on too and durable as all hell.

I wont be putting it on my MBPR so soon yet. This is my first Mac and I want to appreciate the sleek aluminum finish for a while.

If I were to get the iCarbons skin though, I'd only do the "Back and bottom" which is the lid and the bottom of the computer. I think the carbon fiber on the inside with the keyboard/trackpad/speakers looks ugly. My 2 cents though.

you guys think YOU have it bad..

I had been following everything leading up to the second the store opened up post-keynote. Spoke to a guy at the apple store, asked him if RAM could be switched by the user, he said yes. So i decided not to order online, but to pick up in store.

Later that day, the truth came out about soldered RAM. I then realized my only choice was to order online.

Long story short, I could have already had my rMBP, but because the apple employee was misinformed (i don't really blame him I called literally a minute after the store came online and he probably was still learning all of the specs etc) I will now have to wait till June 29.

/rant.

I think Apple should have done what they did with the iPhone and iPad and not announced it as 'shipping today'. Announce it, wait 2 weeks to allow a back stock to be produced and that way shipping times after the 2 weeks would have been significantly lower.

If we go back in the thread earlier someone posted that their production was the week before WWDC. So I think it's quite clear that it's not production issues, but the fact they didn't have pre made ones ready to ship the influx of orders right after WWDC. So now we are seeing long shipping times because the MBPR's are being made and then going straight into the hands of consumer orders or trying to stock Apple stores.

If they had waited 2 weeks they could have pooled up to 2 weeks of MBPR stock, ensured all the Apple stores had display models and reasonable amount of stock level and consumers weren't waiting 3-4 weeks.

Apple products are great but these wait times are horrible. If they have had these kinds of delays in the past you would think they would have dealt with it by now? We're not buying limited edition ferraris here!

Yeah that's right, but I think thats a problem for all production companies. They like to have no or just a minimum stock to reduce warehouse costs, which means they have to build everything.

(For my VW Golf 6 back in 2010 I had to wait 5 Months, I just have heard that you haven't got such long waiting times for cars in the US?)

Thanks for sharing! i agree that keyboard inside one looks ugly..does this actually protect from things falling on it or dents? like is it a hard object or just film?

Thanks

If he was a "genius", you should go back, thump him in the throat, and then embarass him on his lack of knowledge and training. You know, kind of like how some folks do that on here except for the throat thumping. :D

Kidding of course, seriously, everyone makes mistakes.

I don't think it would protect from dents. Here's a video of it being applied to the iPad to give you an idea of its material. http://www.icarbons.com/pages/ipad-2nd-3rd-gen-install-videos

It definitely prevents against scratches, which is what I wanted for my iPad. I wanted to be able to put it down on a table or desk without worrying if there was a tiny bit of dirt/dust underneath it that would scratch. It even comes with a carbon fiber insert for the apple logo.

I recommend invisibleSheild from ZAGG http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield...a-display-2012-cases-covers-skins-shields.php

it's transparent so you can show off your apple gadget ;) plus they have lifetime warranty which i tried! if the film ever got worn out they'll give you new one for free, even if you applied it wrong and damaged it they'll replace it!

For me honestly i'll add a hard/plastic or rubber case which will protect the laptop best, old mbps costed a fortune to fix not to mention the new ones

To protect my beauty, when it finally arrives, I ordered an applesac but since it's a new sleave thing for the retina MacBook ill have to wait about two weeks for that too. Best get used to waiting for things....

For those interested in specifics it's the ColcaSac MacBook Pro 15 With Retina Sleeve - Uintah

Yeah, not the hugest fan of Zagg. Even though their customer service is good, I didn't like the really grippy feeling of their film.

For my purposes, my MBPR will only be transported in a backpack or similar carrying case, so I think the sleeve fits my usage better. The hard plastic or rubber cases get dirt stuck in them which scratches easily which turns me away from them.

Received mine about 2.5 hours ago and still busy setting it up. Will post a pic later.

Still need a copy of Windows 7 and VMWare to properly finish migrating from my desktop though.

agree with you on grippy feeling, I'm really not sure what to get..I'm a university student, so I'll probably take it to uni, I study architecture so probably will have pens and stuff next to it when working.

I'm thinking I'll go with the Brushed Aluminum skin so its closer to the stock look: http://www.icarbons.com/collections/macbook-pro-15-with-retina-display/products/macbook-pro-15-retina-brushed-aluminum

I'm sorry, what? Can't the old cases and sleeves fit in to the new Retina MacBook Pro?

That sucks, because on a Swedish Mac-website I can't find any sleeves or cases for the new 15" Retina MacBook Pro, only old ones for the 15" without Retina display :(

It might slip out ;) either way I wanted something new and sexy :)

sleeves will probably fit but cases for sure won't since new rMBP is thinner

I've never waited so long for a car . My last car was a week, and my sister just purchased a VW about a month ago and had it the same day

This time is quite normal over hear, because every car is individually made {when you order/buy them you must configure your car, which means there are also base line models with lesser equipment which you normally get a bit faster} (by some kind of car e.g. VW Phaeton; you can watch the building process in the factory)

In the US you buy them from stock, don't you?
In germany mostly you wait 1-5 months, but I also know cases where you can wait 1 year or more.

But thats OT ;)

Mine just got delivered... Not bad considering it left Shanghai yesterday....

I have to say I'm absolutely in love with it... Loading up some games and such to test out as I type this.

I'm also in the process of updating it with the 1 GB patch, but honestly I haven't noticed any lag whatsoever. This truly is an amazing machine, and I have no doubt that y'all will be happy with your purchase.
