I created a google spreadsheet so that if everyone enter their date we should be able to follow the shipment date and see when one order is going to be shipped I believe that everyone is responsible and no one will erase everything here is the link :

Put both of mine on there for comparison. Great idea!

I put mine on the spreadsheet as well. I also added a few columns like "Ships" and "Transition Date" so we can see how things are moving through the Apple manufacturing machine.

Very cool to see everyone editing it at once!

I also shafted myself on the order. Placed an order in the early evening of the 11th (when it was still 7-10 days), then figured out that the RAM was non-replaceable. (DOH!) I canceled the original order and re-ordered around 10:30pm EDT - 2.7/16/512 - 2-3 weeks.

I'm developing a twitch every time I get an update from Delivery Status! (I have a couple of other things shipping currently: accessories, a new Tom Bihn bag, etc.)

Good luck to everyone waiting - can't wait!

I put mine in there as well. Already 50 orders in the document, very nice.
Also added some format proposals in the header, should make things more readable.

Utter fail. The moment I finished typing in all my info, there's like 3 others editing my line with theirs.

That's one of the coolest things I've seen from Google Docs. I knew it did that but I've never seen so many users in one doc at a time. Good job!

I added the column for Macrumors Username. Just in case we want to inquire about a user's status directly. :)

Long time lurker, never posted. Anyways I ordered my MBPR on June 13, at standard shipping. I fell into the 3-4 week shipping range, I was estimated to get it between July 12-July 18. I called Apple and asked if I could get the shipping changed to overnight. Not thinking it will push me to the front of the line, more like speeding up the process. Anyways the rep informed me they are trying to keep up with demand, but she expects they are going to start shipping to everyone faster than the expected delivery dates. She also changed my shipping to overnight free of charge. Love:apple:

I called up Apple just now. The rep said that processing times will speed up from now on because the biggest rush was during the first few hours after the keynote ended. For example, it took them about 5 business days (or so) to handle all the orders on the 11th (I'm sure there are still a few stragglers who had CC issues or something, but they don't really count).

Now that the immediate mad rush is over, they'll be able to process two or more days' worth of orders in the same time.

In addition, if your wait time out of the factory was longer than 7 days (meaning starting with the 7-10 day group), Apple automatically expedites your shipping from 5-7 day to 2-3 day.

Then I brought up the ethernet - thunderbolt adaptor. After talking about it for a few minutes, he said that he could throw one into my shipping, but he'd have to cancel the order and place it again, which would knock me off my (not so high, but high enough that I don't want to start again) position in line.

With that said, I'm really puzzled about people's orders as they are listed on the spreadsheet.

Do people REALLY need 16GB of RAM? And the 2.7GHz processor? For RAM, if you're a programmer who blows through gigabytes of data or you're a professional movie editor or something, I can understand the need for 16GB. I'm an amateur photographer and I use Aperture and perhaps PS. I may make a home movie or two using iMovie. I can't see myself needing 16GB of RAM ever....

And for the processor, that isn't the slow part of the system. You'd see much more of an effect by upgrading RAM than the processor. Is there any reason to buy the upgraded processor?

For perspective, I'm coming from the first generation of Intel based Macs. I have a 17" MBP 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM and a 200GB 7200RPM HDD, all of which is what it initially shipped with. (Technically, the Apple HDD crashed, but I ended up installing a similarly spec'ed one). It's slowed down (especially after installing Lion), but it still functions acceptably. I saw a big enough upgrade to warrant a new purchase. (It's so old, it doesn't have multitouch, but it still does have the button on the bottom of the trackpad and the aluminum colored keyboard.)

MBPR 2.3/8/256
Ordered 16/06/2012
3-4 Weeks
Expected: July 17 - 23

Can anyone think of some sort of algorithm we could come up with to take the current data in the document and predict a shipping or even delivery date? Come on guys, I know we can come up with this together. It'll help pass the time.

Just called them. They bumped my order from Jul 2nd to Jun 29th + they gave me free 2-3 business days shipping.

Are you serious? Apple gives a freakin estimated delivery date, there's you algorithm right there!

As a photographer, I don't think you would need the extra RAM. I, myself, am both a photographer and programmer. I got the additional RAM because it was only a $200 upgrade and you can never add additional RAM to this system.

Great to hear about the quicker shipping!

I would just color code the WEEKS (2-3 in one color, 3-4 in other and so on) and the same with SHIPPED (YES GREEN, NO RED).

A lot of people (like me) got 16GB of RAM solely for the fact that you can't upgrade it later. I'm not sure how long I'll keep the computer, but it can't hurt to have too much RAM. It CAN hurt to have too little later down the road. It also increases resell value.

Good to know about the order status, and that they'll start moving these next orders faster.

THe RAM can never be change, I may never need it but the upgrade cost was not too bad. The 2.7 was probably a waste but it does have 2MB more Cache so not just the 100Mhz. I couldn't justify the $500 to go up to 768GB so stuck it out with 512GB.

I like to usually go top spec so I don't ever regret it. Rational people may keep it closer to base specs:D

There are a lot of orders placed on the 11th that have not shipped?

There are quite a few (including my order) that were placed on the 11th that have still not shipped.

I have seen less and less people stating their order has shipped or even is at preparing to ship. I can only assume that they are in between "batches" or are allocating stock for retail stores... Hopefully they ship soon!

I know, but if you have been watching this forum you will see that people are receiving their orders anywhere from 5 days early to a couple days after the initial predicted date. I just wanted to see if we could get an actual predicted date based on the data rather then the 7 day window cop-out that they have listed.

I think everyone can decide for himself what he needs and if you don't need than that's fine...
I personally also ordered my MBP with 16GB RAM. I am running a MBP with 8GB of RAM and it's ok, i mean most of the time I have free RAM.
But when Photoshop and other Applications get Retina Graphics, that will probably use more RAM and I don't want to buy a new MBP in a year..

For example, it took them about 5 business days (or so) to handle all the orders on the 11th (I'm sure there are still a few stragglers who had CC issues or something, but they don't really count).

Plenty of 6/11 orders have not shipped. I haven't seen a single order placed past 8:30pm EST even go into the "Preparing for shipment" stage.

Do people REALLY need 16GB of RAM?

Personally, I'm planning on running at least one virtual machine with VMware Fusion (Win 8) and maybe Ubuntu too, and that can really benefit from the extra RAM. Beyond that, 8GB would probably be fine, although as a web developer/graphic designer/app developer, Photoshop, XCode and reference material can chew up a lot of memory on their own too. I thought that $179 was pretty reasonable for the 16GB upgrade (education discount) and figured better too much now than not enough later.
