So looks like all the base models plus the following BTO are available:

14: M1 Max/64GB/2TB
16: M1 Max/64GB/4TB

In both colors! I was hoping they would have the truly "ultimate" models on hand, but I guess its a bit of a niche product for those who want >4TB of storage...
Mine had a maxed out 16” with the 8tb almost ordered it by mistake as I had both in my cart.

I woke up at 4:50am Pacific, and immediately looked at the Apple Store app, not expecting anything yet. But lo and behold, they were in stock! I ordered exactly what I wanted for pickup in the Bay Area in California: 16" M1 Max with 32GB RAM, 1TB Storage, Space Gray. Today it will be mine!

Note, I couldn't order with financing, it would tell me "at least one item in your bag can't be bought with store pickup" or some such. I had to pay in full.

This is what happens when you try to add AppleCare at the time of purchase with installment payments.

I believe the reason that you don't see an option for in store trade in, is because there isn't an option to pick up your purchase in store yet. When I ordered my phone, I had done all the effort early, and put it in my bag. So when it came time & the option for in store pick up became available, I just purchase what was in my bag. When I got my phone the specialist did ask me if I had a phone to trade in, scanned it in, and told me I had said I would mail my trade in. This time I will be waiting to do all of that as the option for pickup becomes available, then see if 'in store' trade in becomes available.
That’s why I picked the 13” for order rehearsal purposes—it’s available for immediate collection.

Just ordered the 16” for in-store pickup. There was no option to add an in-store trade. In fact, there’s specific mention that I cannot trade in-store (at least when ordering online and adding a trade to the order).

I’d considered ordering without a trade at all, then showing up with one, and seeing if they’d apply it to my order. But I didn’t want to hang my hat on that.

I’d really rather not deal with Phobio, so hopefully my local store still can work with me on one of the noted workarounds (e.g. return and immediately repurchase, or refund to Apple Cash Card).

Does your pick up order still show the time for pick up in the order status section of the website/app? I am worried... I placed the order for Apple Card installments, and the app simultaneously buzzed and said payment failed, and then showed me my order number and the said it would be ready for pickup.

I got an email with the original time I had selected, but now the order status page just says available "Today" and "your order will be available shortly" with no check in window.

Is that how yours looks? My Apple Card was charged the tax...

I can't order with apple card financing without cancelling my online order - does anyone know if funds free up immediately when you cancel online orders with the apple card? Might have to use another card.
i cancelled an order days ago, my order wouldn't go through, called the apple card people, they didn't have a clue what was going on and couldnt help me, apple card is worthless.

I got mine reserved. But it says that the trade in can’t be done in store. Is this outdated info on the webpage?

I was just posting that.

I noticed that as well. I have no idea what changed.

Was looking on the website for the chat, and couldn't find it. Was thinking of calling later today to double check if this is true.

I see them available in store now on the east coast but as soon as I selct 64 gigs of ram it says unavailable

So I could wait that was a lie, hit up Apple to cancel my order. Glad I don’t have to wait till next month and trust phobio. Launch day pick up trade in for the win

doesn't matter, i didn't add apple care and the payment failed. i even called the apple card people, been up since 4am, and almost missed out, had to use another form of payment,

Hoping it is wrong, because I want to avoid the Phobio BS.

I noticed for my order, they specifically removed the option for physical trade ins.
They ship a trade-in kit to your house. I was told by Apple that it’s better for their operations for their mail channel to handle people’s old devices, instead of the retail folks.

I did a trade in in-store the other day. Not toward a purchase but standalone. They did have the option to select prior purchase. Most likely you couldn't do trade in as it is an in-store pick up vs delivery. I'd bring anything you're trading in and ask. Never hurts.

Was able to cancel my online order that wasn’t expected to ship for a few weeks and do in-store pickup today. Just got the base 16-inch. Had used gift cards online so I was concerned those would take awhile to process back, but order hadn’t been charged so smooth process. Excited to pickup later tonight.

When you initiate a trade online, apparently you’re consigning yourself to mail-in trade, even if you’re picking up your new Mac in-store (I know, it doesn’t make sense to me, either).

I’ve heard mixed stories on what happens if you show up with your trade anyway. Some are told that they MUST mail their trade if they want credit toward the new Mac, as that’s what’s on the order. Others get some workaround, like returning and immediately repurchasing (assuming adequate inventory, since returns technically must momentarily return to it) or a credit to an Apple Cash Card. Still others get lucky and are able to have their trade processed en site with a credit to their original payment method.

This could—and should—be made a little more elegant.

It's literally how I purchased my phone, was by trading in my old phone. I don't know if it's suddenly on phones only. I had traded it several Apple products when they first allowed physical trade ins, which is how I got my gift cards to apply towards the new MBP. Not sure what changed.

As you said, it can't hurt to bring it in. Only problem is if you bring it in, when they expect it, they gave me gift cards for my phone. As the system won't allow the trade in to be applied to the current purchase.

If that happens, I had decided to get Apple Care there, I will take the gift card and apply it towards that and see if there is something else to get on hand.

I ordered the base 14 that will be available today in the Bay Area. Funny that if you choose to upgrade to the 96w adapter there is none available for pick up. No other BTO configuration is available either for the 14.

Ya I had to use another card which will net me a little bit less cash back, but better than waiting well over a month for - for me at least.

Just got my 16" Max w/ 32GB/1TB ordered -- and was able to order the elusive Polishing Cloth for pickup too! Woo!!

As I've mentioned. I've gone thru that. They took my product & gave me a gift card.

They will still send the box for the product, but you are told to ignore it. It's followed by an email saying you didn't send the box or product back, but if you already traded it in, you can ignore the email.
