As I've mentioned. I've gone thru that. They took my product & gave me a gift card.

They will still send the box for the product, but you are told to ignore it. It's followed by an email saying you didn't send the box or product back, but if you already traded it in, you can ignore the email.

My store wouldn’t allow in store trade in for online orders, they say you have to mail it in. It depends on store and market I think.

What I did was go in yesterday and do the trade in for a gift card, then used the gift card today.

I managed to snag a 16" Max 64GB 4TB model at my closest (but still 1 hour away) apple store. I'm surprised to see BTO options and such maxed out specs to be available at that store but hey I'm not complaining. Going to pick it up in a couple hours!

That's an excellent option if one has time travel & the gift of 20 / 20 foresight.

A chat specialist is saying I can bring it in. Just trying to confirm if I will be given a gift card or the amount applied.

Because if I am getting gift cards again, seems like I will be paying Apple Care, getting an iPad Mini, and more.

I think the hangup is in how you pay. IF it's pay in full, they want to give you gift card and get ALL of their money first.

That’s interesting. While ordering, it asked if I wanted to trade my old laptop in store or if I wanted to mail in. I chose mail in because I wanted some time to run benchmarks and transfer some stuff over before sending it off.

Do stores still have some configs that don't show up online for pick-up - ie reserved for walk ins ? My local one doesn't show any 16" Max configs for pickup but I may go for a walk to check.

@quagmire

I was told to bring in the "old" laptop, they will let me trade in there.

If it isn't applied to the purchase, they can credit the card being used.

?

I'll just be getting another empty box from Apple that Fed Ex delivers. ?

When you trade in do you need unit and cord and that’s it? Or old box? Haven’t traded in at store before.

Stock updated at 7:00 for me. All 10 or so Houston stores have base model 14s. No BTO configs and no option for in store trade.

Just joined. Picking up a config that's too much for me but I don't want to wait until mid December for a 32GB 14".

Space Gray
14"
M1 Max
2TB
64GB

$3700+ tax.

I used education discount, do we have to prove anything about the education on pickup? IT's already paid for anyway, picking it up in 2 hours.

Note that they won't take a trade-in at all if it has been upgraded by the user - when the M1 Mac Mini came out, I tried to trade-in my 1-year-old perfectly functional Intel Mac Mini that had been upgraded from 16GB RAM to 32GB RAM, and was told they wouldn't give me any money for it, my only options were to "recycle" it for free or take it back.

There’s a chance, if the stock level is yellow (less than 5), it won’t show as in stock online

I want to say they dont require anything. Technically when shopping the online store they have you "verify" by accepting the terms and conditions that you qualify for educational.

By your store or online chat?

Thanks!

So the Order email says:

"Available Today. We'll notify you when these items are ready.
In-Store pickup instructions will be included in the email we send when your order is ready for pickup."

My pickup window is within 2 hours. I will call them beforehand, but hopefully it's actually in stock - lol. Have had some weird snafus with money the last few days (ordered a surface laptop studio only to fat finger the shipping address, they couldn't fix it, cancelled the order, waiting for money to comeback lol).

So what I thought would happen happened. I had a Dec 19th 24 core max with 64 G Ram and 2 TB hard drive on order. I could have went down or up to get it today so I now have a 32 core max with 4 TB hard drive and 64 g ram. So extra grand. Ahh well you only live once. Apple got me.

For those who are trading in their Macs in store today: please remember to turn off Find My Mac! When a store rep enters your serial number, it checks to see if Find My is off. If it’s not, it won’t move forward with the trade in until it’s turned off. Be sure to do it at home so you don’t waste extra time at the store.

Yeah, I Yolo'd this one too. I never owned a mac before either. I'm hoping the m1 max with 64GB RAM can do some work in Unity (3d). I see a lot of M1 users doing Unity for iOS games. I'm hoping it has the oomph, I'm just a VS Code developer right now. I will get into XCODE but I'm hoping it can handle Unity 3D (not AAA titles but just my own VR games if I want to work on them).

Lame, I guess I'm just outside their delivery courier, even though I'm within 10 miles of the store. Guess I'm picking it up!

Got an M1 Max 64GB 4TB for in-store-pickup as well. Would have rather gotten 2TB but waiting until Dec 16... Apple got me too! Seems like they either sell in store base models or very-high-end models, but not much in-between. Makes sense.

Had that option too. But the sane part of me took over and got the 14 with 2tb. Makes more sense to me anyways to get more portable and same performance.
