I'm mock-ordering a 13" MBP for in-store pickup with trade-in just to familiarize myself with the process before tomorrow morning. It looks like a trade-in kit will be sent upon pickup at the store; I don't actually see an option to specify an in-store trade-in (which I'd prefer). I just asked Apple via chat and got no clear answers. Am I missing something? It would seem strange that the Apple Store Online and App will let you order a new Mac for in-store pickup, but NOT let you opt to complete your trade in-store as well.
Because you have to pay for your order. Your trade in has to be inspected and valued.

Seeing the same thing on my end.

I’ll be bringing my MacBook Pro with me just in case. If they can process the trade in at the store, that would be nice. If not, I’ll try to sell if offer up or just wait for the trade in kit.

Let me provide some update from China regarding direct purchase and pick up at apple store.
Basically in Shanghai (one of the largest city in China), all default configs are in stock (2 for 14" and 3 for 16"). You can order it online and then pick it up at apple store. No customized ones are in stock. However, in Beijing (capital city of China), only confirmed config in stock is 14" 64 GB memory, 2TB (maxed out one). So it varies in different cities. Some people placed the order even in the afternoon.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like the more upscale Apple stores might have more options available while the other Apple stores will stick to the lower end models.

So Beijing only has one option - a 14inch with 64 ram. That’s odd

Nah, if you choose trade in, they will mail u the trade in kit. If you go to the physical apple store and trade it there.. they cannot match the trade in to your online order. So basically they will do the trade in at store and issue u an apple gift card or gift balance to your Apple Card (if u have one). If you already purchase it through 12 months of installment with Apple and you have deducted monthly payment considering ur estimated trade in value and u trade in actually at store, apple will still send u a trade in kit. Since u have nothing to trade in, Apple will later assume u cancel the trade in and they will update your monthly payment to match the non-trade in price. I experienced the same situation in this July when I ordered my iPad Pro. You can pay your monthly payment with the gift card/gift balance they issue u. HOWEVER, if you have other monthly payment there, the gift balance will go to those early monthly payment first.

confirmed... not quite sure whether they have other options in stock or not but for Shanghai, the guy actually posted the screenshot of apple online ordering process.. all 5 default config are all available for pick up the same day.

@LFC2020 You'd want to be following this thread I'm sure... Stock seems to update at 5am?

But with AW S7, random stock just showed up throughout the day (presumably from people who cancelled their pick up?).

I think they don’t show up in stock until the shipment comes. Sometimes a store can get multiple deliveries in a day.

I just went through more posts... basically all apple stores in China mainland have different configs (most of them are those 5 default ones) in stock... some do have some customized ones in stock. Have no idea whether US will do the same tomorrow. Hope I can locate one here tomorrow so I can cancel my online order which takes another month to come.

At this point I’m afraid to go to sleep. Afraid I will miss out when pick up becomes available.

I got royally ****ed in the arse by Apple.... Ordered pickup only to get a call back from the Apple Store during the MIDDLE OF DRIVING to tell me that there was a "glitch" in the system and that I can't pickup my order and I have place a new order.
Translation: they accidentally sold your computer to someone else.

Here is what I just checked for stock in Shanghai, China. This is for the default top tier of MBP 16". Some stores have it in stock but not all. However, it is already 10:54 am Oct 27th, in China... so better keep checking apple stores around you tomorrow.

14" are basically in stock in almost all stores in Beijing. seems that 16" are the ones are limited... Pray..

How can they have zero base models ? Now I’m nervous. All I want is the base 16.

If that's actually what happened then I'm even more pissed... Do you think it's worth calling them and going karen mode? Tbh I don't see a point, doubt they are going to compensate me anything or reserve me another macbook pro.

Probably wouldn’t do any good at this point… it’s gone. :( I feel for you though.

Just to be clear, you are saying that you can still do a trade in with instant credit and Apple Card payments while doing pick up at the store, but you’ll still have to mail the trade in? If you trade in at store, you won’t get the instant credit? Is that right? Cause I want to do payments on my Apple Card with an instant trade in, but am hoping to pick up in store tomorrow instead of placing an order online.

You can walk into the store and do a trade in at the store, they will apply the credit to your pickup order if you want, you get the Apple gift card the moment you give them your trade in and they take it in the store

You don’t need to mail anything if you’re going into the store
