I don't see as much value in buying the 90 day stuff @ $99 when they are selling new lifetime warranted RAM @ $109

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer Technology/8566DDR3S8GP/

Cheers,

Just to be fair so EVERYBODY knows... with that nuram stuff it says you need the receipt to get the lifetime warranty... OWC branded stuff you DO NOT need a receipt to claim the lifetime warranty.

Again, just so nobody thinks OWC is trying to cheat them ;)

But, on a side note, $109 is a sexy price... I ALWAYS keep receipts anyways.

You sir, just sold me on 8GB ram ;) haha. Good looking out.

I scan all receipts and put them in the dropbox folder so they are replicated to multiple systems in multiple locations. Good thing to mention tho.

Cheers,

Those of you that filed for a return or exchange, did you call or fill out the online RMA form? I filled out the online form and I'm still waiting for a reply other than the automated confirmation response. (about a day and a half ago). Though it does say give them 48 hours, I was just curious about other folk's return/RMA process.

I called them.

The RAM I've got was brand new not used.

Mine sure as heck looked brand new as well. All sealed up in the packaging. Were you able to return it or did they say exchange only?

I called and they did an RMA for me but I didn't actually return it hah. Was just curious as to how it all worked with them. Was easy enough. RAM as long as it's within 15 or 30 days I think you can just return no questions asked. Outside of that would need to be an exchange.

Why are you wanting to RMA again?

After installing it, I had an instance of a hang-up during boot (just wouldn't complete the boot, stuck on grey screen), then i had an instance of a hang on shutdown (stuck on blue screen). Then once when waking from sleep the system completely crashed and i got that black message box in all the languages telling me to hold down the power button to shutdown.

This all happened within the span of 1 day, whereas I never had any of those troubles with the stock RAM. in fact, put the RAM back in yesterday and everything has been back to normal.

I would give them 1 last chance. I have gotten bad parts from everybody. Don't take it as meaning they have junk parts. It's your call though.

Buy what makes you feel secure. I feel good buying from OWC and Newegg... so I'm pretty safe haha.

I'm with ya. I've been buying PC parts from Newegg for a very long time. I'm relatively new to Mac, and recently got a hard drive upgrade kit from OWC that worked out great.

Just found this thread. I bought OWC ram yesterday for $126 with warranty. Before ordering I called them to see that the difference was between OWC and NuRAM - here is what they said

In essence OWC is a private labeled major brand and NuRam is private labeled generic RAM. OWC has advanced replacement - they send you replacement ram while you send in the defective ram. With NuRam they must receive and inspect before the replace. Both have life time warrantee. Also, the rebate values change - and go down. It was $32 last week and $25 this week but the price of RAM also dropped. Best to sell older ram on ebay for nearly double - but after you are sure the 'new ram' works for a week or two.

After reading all the above I am so glad I didn't go cheap and went with OWC. But like anything else you pay your money and take your chances

Please let us know your experience with their RAM.

Will do. If there is a bad batch out there it is important to get the word out.

Mine shipped yesterday, Dec 7th, but I went with the cheapest/slowest (less then $2) method so I may not get it until Friday or Saturday. I am optimistic but will wait before selling my Apple Ram (2x2GB) on Ebay - current prices go for about $49 with shipping making this a $85 upgrade including fees. Last year at this time OWC ram went for about $475.

BTW - being that OWC was selling used ram with a 90 day warranty it is my guess that that is the ram they take in on rebate. They probably do a quick check or random check, then slap a label on it and sell for 3-4x their cost.

Also - my signature is a bit premature since i still have 4GB in my new MBP. I hope I don't have to change it back

Anyone curious about the return process. OWC was very quick and easy about it. Literally no questions asked. Just gave me the RMA# and sent an RMA# email with a UPS shipping label attached.

I jumped on the $99 8gb nuram deal last week and finally got it yesterday. I got 2 sets of 8gb for 2 different machines. I was surprised to see that the ram had lifetime warranty stickers on it - I was under the impression the warranty was only 30 days. Which one is correct?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe OWC offers the 30 day warranty on the RAM, and NuRam offers a lifetime manufacturer's warranty - you'll have to go through NuRam to fulfill it.

OWC itself, on the other hand, offers a lifetime warranty. From what I've read, it's much less hassle to have OWC handle the warranty (they offer advanced replacement for example)

My question is where does the "Major Brand" memory come from? Is this OWC? NuRam? Something else?

The "major brand" at the moment is NuRam stock. I'm sure the "major brand" label allows them to keep one generic listing for any RAM they might have gotten an overstock of that they want to blow out for whatever reason. But currently, I asked what it was, they told me NuRam. I got the ram, and sure enough it was NuRAm, new, in NuRam packaging.

I got no response in about 48 hours either. Then I went on the 24/7 chat customer service thing on their website, and got a rep to complete the RMA for me. It was really quick and easy. Probably should have called in the first place. But just call them or do that online chat thing and they should be able to kick your RMA into gear immediately.

OWC online chat is REALLY nice and it's 24/7.

well i decided to call them, they were more then helpful in the returning process. I decided to order the owc brand and it is on its way. I hope for better luck this time around.

so are you guys buying the nuram and returning it and getting OWC or are you buying OWC in the first place?

I buy OWC in the first place.

I think the folks accidentally bought NuRam or were not happy with it, or it didn't work properly, and are returning it for the OWC branded.

The warranty is pretty nice, they don't have to wait to receive and check your ram before they send you the new ram... it's express which is amazing.
