well after my first "major brand" ram was faulty i returned it and ordered the OWC branded memory.

IT WORKS!!

I have ran rember with zero errors and the computer is experiencing no hangs or flickers. I am going to run a tech tool deluxe later when i go out but as of now it seems to work.

You have restored my faith in you OWC.

Keep us posted please. Give us a week update.

I'm about to get the 8GB and I want the OWC but I'll settle for GSkill if the OWC is still having the issues.

Mine from them in my old MBP worked great.

Great. My faulty RAM was the more expensive OWC. Anyway, OWC shipped out a replacement 'OWC' ram yesterday and I should have it by Thursday. I never needed to do any real tests on my bad OWC ram as just using safari and reading threads like this was enough to make the screen go crazy. I do suspect that the OWC and NuRam bad batch were the same thing just priced differently. Even OWC will sometimes say the only difference is the warranty (their story varies by who you speak with).

Anyway, all I want is my faith restored and a working 8GB MBP. I'm keeping both my fingers and toes crossed!!!

just wanted to let you know that I've got the replacement RAM in only 2 days and so far (48hrs) works fine.
Same brand NuRAM.

Quick update - I purchased the G.Skill ram when it was $99 on Newegg. It arrived today and I put it in my 17" a couple hours ago. Computer is working great so far, no issues of any kind. I'll continue with using the notebook and report back on any issues.

Replacement 'OWC' ram arrived and so far so good.

What kills me is that how much the price keeps dropping since I originally ordered the defective ram. Anyway, the important thing is that is works.

$100 for crucial, $98 for gskill, $119 for OWC... all 8GB.

Price is going nuts haha.

Received my $99 OWC Ram today in the UK, got hit by VAT and parcelforce admin fees of $30. :(

Anyway, all seems to be working fine and my mbp has been on all day working in Logic Studio etc.

No problems so far!

In the end i could have bought it from crucial UK for £80 delivered, OWC cost me £90 :(

The G.Skill kit for $98 US being sold on NewEgg, can't be purchased by those not living in the US. What is the next best alternative?

I had a look at the Crucial website and the 8gb (4gb x2) is not at $100 but at $126 + $15 Shipping to Japan.

What is my next best alternative? Advice as to who to buy from and what brand to buy would be appreciated. I have a mbp 13 and looking for 8gb. Thank you.

Bought it already

I ordered the 8Gb kit (2x4Gb) from OWC today at 113$ together with the Seagate Momentus xt Hybrid model 500Gb 7200rpm with 4Gb of SSD for a total of $275 with the $10 discount for checking with Amazon and the FedEx international shipping method (Cuz I live in Mexico), I'll see how does the Ram upgrade is, currently I have just 2Gb and I want to do HD video editing with my Final Cut Pro 7 so I think I'll experience a good boost on performance =D

Anyway... I'll post my results in about 2 weeks, the package should be here for 22 December and I'll try it up for 1 week, I'm pretty excited right now as it will be my first Notebook upgrade.

I'd like to say, I returned my NuRAM to OWC, send it out Thursday. They got it Monday, and my refund appeared on my credit card statement by Wed/Thurs. They were prompt about issuing the refund without me having to all and inquire about it. That's a plus in my book. I've had other vendors drag their feet in the past with RMAs where I've had to call a few times to get their arse in gear. lol. OWC is still good in my book. Musta just had a bad box o' ram they sent out to some of us.

Did you re-order OWC branded RAM? I think it's down to $119 for 8GB now.

No, I just returned. I figured I'd wait for the moment. I am one of those cases where having 8GB would have been a convenience for me, but I don't necessarily NEED it. And I might be getting the newer 13" when they come out next year, so I figured my ~$100 is probably better put toward that purchase.

If I did decide to try the 8GB again, I might try the G.Skill from Newegg. It's now under 100, and I've had great experience using G.Skill in all the PCs I've built over the past few years. Never gave me any grief.

Yeah I'm HEAVILY leaning toward the Crucial from newegg (free shipping). They have the individual 4GB single sticks for $50. Buy two of those for $100 plus free shipping and you get yourself some top quality (Crucial) RAM; 8GB for $100. Hard to pass up.

Yep, that'd be it. It's the exact ram in their 8GB kit (2x4GB)... just single packaged. Ends up saving you some money. I'd MUCH rather have Crucial ram over GSkill any day of the week. The extra $2 or $3 is WELL worth the Crucial.

For some reason most folks aren't considering it as they are only looking at the entire kits.. but it's the exact same RAM. Just sold individually. Normally the kits are cheaper than doing it this way, but for some reason you save like $40 if you buy them separate.

EDIT: Just double checked, you end up saving about $20... but still.... $100 for 8GB ram, and it's Crucial, is hard to pass on.

Sweet, now you have me tempted again. Good job! lol.

HAHA.. yeah. I don't like gskill as the only time I have used it, it failed on me in my older MBP. I am set on Crucial or OWC. I'm partially OCD so I like to keep all my parts the same brand haha... I know, stupid!

So I was going to get OWC RAM for sure, but then their run of bad ram they had past few weeks, and the fact that it's $20 more than the Crucial. It was the same price if you got the kit, so I was going OWC, but hell, why pay $20 more for OWC when I can have Crucial. They sell TOP quality stuff.

Lifetime warranty just like OWC has.

With all these great deals on 8Gb ram I almost feel bad getting 'OWC RAM' two weeks ago. I got a bad stick and the replacement has been fine. Also it looks like the bad batch is gone since no complaints in the past week.

However, I don't feel bad because the small extra price includes the 'advanced warranty' If your ram goes how long will it take to get a replacement? You might have to sent it in and waste a few days instead of removing the bad stick and running on just off the good one. - assuming you have sold your original. The OWC advance warranty does offer customers 'little to no down time' and peace of peace of mind. That is worth something and in this case its about 20 bucks. Is it worth it? Maybe, maybe not. I already sold my original 4gb for $40. In the end it costs me roughly $88 after fees... and I have a lifetime advance warranty. Not so bad ;)
