ULV dual-core processors are coming Q3 2013. But I've read news that 35W dual-core processors will only come Q4 2013:

http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/30859-haswell-35w-dual-cores-in-q4-2013

Apple will probably stick to 35W dual cores for the 13" rMBP. However, there is a chance Apple adopts something different, as the current 13" rMBP is reportedly a flop. I think the 13" rMBP is the best laptop in the world today, and I'll definitely buy it, but apparently people didn't get seduced by the retina display alone and were expecting more horsepower at this price. Apple may put a quad-core or a dedicated GPU in the 13" rMBP to boost its puny sales, especially if it intends to put a retina display on the MBA as well.

----------

Apple may put a 256 GB standard on the lower-end model, and keep the 256 GB on the higher-end, with a faster processor. That is a possibility.

I wouldnt put so much faith on fudzilla, their track record even with intel leaks is very poor, which by itself is amazing

still Im not even hoping, im quite sure they will launch on the same time, it doesnt make much sense to launch the dual 35w parts after the higher binned counterparts, i.e. ulv. this is not gpu business were they will profit from larger margins in the launch time.

Im actually thinking they will go for a 2.5'' drive, instead of SSD, that affects price too much, that way they ca put the price of the rmbp on par with their past pricing

I hope you're right. I'll probably buy a 13" rMBP in June and I would like it to be equipped with Haswell. To have it released after June will probably be of no use for me, as I'll not be able to buy it after that...

But I haven't seen any news on 35W processors apart from the Fudzilla article I mentioned.

I have seen some, but they dont divulge in any details at all, they just say they will be there, just that.

no comments on 35w quads (though if I remember correctly there will be, its just logic in this case)

I still think that intel is going to release the probable parts for the 13 after june, not at the june 2nd timeline, and that probably works for the 15 as well, if they stick with the gt3e parts, though in the 15 case, they might just use the 4600 parts

In the end I think you are going to be able to buy the heavily discounted early 2013 and late 2012, not the late 2013 models, I hope you can go with haswell. In the end is just pay 5000 (found it yesterday at saraiva, with the 5% discount) here for the base model, or buy for much less the i5 with 512gb at one of those stores in the US

love your avatar btw, I miss murray

I agree, but the prices of ssd haven't dropped.

Well, if not then I'm gonna have to pony up the $300 extra for the 512. I'm already paying the $200 to max out the ram. So now I'm up to $2700. It would be nice to catch a break somewhere, like the SSD or the rumored base price drop to $1,999

As I will be in the US in June, I guess I'll hardly miss the opportunity to buy a rMBP, even with Ivy Bridge, for nearly half of the price it's sold here in Brazil... I guess Haswell won't be worth double the price, will it?

Me too.

Me too.

I will just say that its going to be worth at least 300.000 north korean won more if you just buy one in brazil with haswell. it makes that much sense

or you could try dividing by zero, have been doing that it simply works

Well, now Apple says that significant product releases will only come in the fall... would that apply to MBPs and MBAs too?

No, they didn't say ONLY will come in the fall, they just said that they are very excited about a few releases in the fall. But I have said before and will say again: I never expected them to be released in June- perhaps just announced. Due to the Haswell bug and other factors, I was thinking around August-September. I suppose, then, that it will now be Sep.-Oct.

It is the 15" which in theory could get updated sooner but I guess they will all show at the same time.
I can only repeat what I wrote many times before. I would wait on a 13" if you can and don't need a notebook now. I wouldn't for a 15". If gaming doesn't matter, you can just buy now. For OSX and most of what you do there the hd 4000 is fine and the CPU of Haswell won't be any faster(nothing to write home about anyway). Unless of course you want/need a quad core but if they actually use a quad core is in no way certain.

What about this stuff? https://www.macrumors.com/2013/04/25/apple-expected-to-ramp-up-production-of-haswell-based-notebooks-next-month/

Anything meaningful there? I am in a similar situation to skaertus as I need to buy my 13" rMBP before August.

Are you a student? I would wait, because Apple tends to have their back to school sale with iPods and iTunes gift cards around that time (August) and it seems unlikely they would want to miss out on the students buying laptops. So I would wait for August and see what they will do. If nothing else, prices will have come down in anticipation for the new computers.

Yes, that's true.

And I guess September sounds a realistic timeframe. Perhaps even August, depending on the availability of Haswell. But June? I doubt it.

I don't think so. I guess we'll have to get the Ivy Bridge version... why do you need the laptop before August?

I am going to graduate school in Italy so I want to have my new MacBook, (I've never had one before), while I still have enough time in the US to get it all set and get comfortable with it and ensure I don't have any issues.

Well, you may buy your Mac in Italy. It's considerably more expensive than in the U.S., but it doesn't come close to the prices here in Brazil... I just hope the Italian Mac doesn't have the weird keyboard that they use in France.

All the more reason I wish to pull the trigger soon.

they have a different one, which is almost equally dreadful to be true

That was what I was waiting for originally, the back to school special. I don't think they've done the iPod for a couple of years but I do want to take the $100 App Store gift card. Might as well. Seems like they usually start the special around the end of May or in June. Historically.

So yes, I was waiting on that and then I started hearing about all this Haswell stuff so I feel like I'm waiting on WWDC, but I could just keep finding a reason to wait and wait and wait I'm sure, when really I just want the damn thing in my hands.

Let's cross our fingers for WWDC then.

It's possible, although there are some conflicting reports.

You have reports saying that Intel is going to release the quad-cores Haswell processors in June, and that the first ones will have the USB 3.0 glitch, so it's possible that Apple delays the release of 15" rMBPs to wait Intel to fix the problem first.

There are reports saying that ULV processors (for the MBA) will be released in Q3, and that 35W dual-core processors (for the 13" rMBP) will be released in Q4.

There are also reports saying that Apple is going to refresh its line-up in June, and especially that it will revamp the MBA, possibly with a redesign to feature retina-only models (although this is far of being a certainty).

There are also reports saying that Apple will release the MBPs in the second half of 2013. One of the reasons for this would be that Apple would have to wait for Intel to fix the USB 3.0 glitch before releasing it Haswell models.

Apple itself said that some exciting new products are coming in the fall. While this probably refer to iPhones and iPads, I cannot stop wondering whether it may release brand-new MBAs with retina displays in the fall. And, after this announcement, I also wonder whether Apple will release anything before Q3 2013...

There are probably a hundred other reports elsewhere, and the information is definitely not converging.

In the meantime, I'm waiting for WWDC and I hope something is released by then. A Haswell 13" rMBP would definitely fit my needs. So would a new Haswell MBA, provided that Apple puts a retina display on it instead of keeping the regular resolution.

I think that is just the same as every time. Some people expect that to happen because they look at the calendar and that is when Apple used to update quite often. It is rumors of uninformed people reported as just rumors.
This people don't ask the suppliers, they don't check on the roadmaps, plans and problems of all the tech companies involved. All Apple does is patch together a couple of components and the most important is the CPU, GPU as the rest is not in anybodies focus. A new display you can push to the next iteration if it isn't ready. A new case Apple can prototype whenever Apple wants. Yet Intel makes there chip when it wants and more importantly CAN.

Rumors of this kind get more reliable when manufacturers at foxconn leak the first infos. Which usually happens 2 months in advance. If there was a launch before august. The rumors would mount in the next couple weeks. That same article says though that most actual statements by companies imply the opposite.

All the real evidence suggests to the contrary of an early launch. It is possible that they update some of the line early but I would consider it very unlikely. Especially dual cores are delayed according to Intel. Intel intends to produce not too much until the next stepping fixes the USB issues. I think there will simple not be enough chips of any kind around at launch. Apple always tries to replace older models completely from one day to the other. That requires loads of supply and manufacturing in advance to handle the launch day. The latter part is the reason why there are always credible rumors before. This one isn't one though.

While the MBA is the best computer I've owned, a new MBA with Retina display would make me swap it in a heartbeat. However, as long as we're only talking a processor bump though, I see no point in upgrading, as long as my computer is still able to run the latest software.

A question though... Doesn't Apple usually update their notebook line AFTER the Back-to-school campaign, that said, around august? I could be wrong, but I seem to remember this having been the case previously.
