16:10 advantages:

Higher resolution for the same ppi and "
More vertical resolution
Higher resolutions for 1280·x, 1920·x, and 2560·x
Wider range of resolutions (as of now), including high-res 15.4" 1920·1200
17", 20", and 24" displays have higher resolutions (both ways) than 16", 18.4", and 21" 16:9 displays

16:9 advantages:

Wider so no "black bars" when watching 16:9 movies
Wider so easier to display two things side-by-side
Cheaper panels
High-res 13.1" 1600·900 panel has no 13" 16:10 equivalent
Can fit a full-size keyboard in a smaller display size
16", 18.4", and 21" displays are physically wider than 15", 17", and 20" 16:10 displays for similar heights

The benefits are in apples favor.....ALSO....they want to be the king of all media...

Like I said; as long as they don't go lower on the vertical res than 900 or 1050 then that's fine. But if they start going lower than that, then the notebook is useless to me. I don't want to have to keep scrolling up and down to see stuff. to me, 1920x1200 would be the perfect res for the MBP, and 1440x900 for the 13" MB.

I think this is more likely to be a MacBook than a Pro. It would be annoying if they have dropped firewire though. Or if the have changed the magsafe adaptor.
You can see from the icons that its a video port, two USB and ethernet. The next one could be one of those new firewire variants, which hopefully scale down like 800 to 400 with the correct cable/adaptor. I think there is room off the pic to the left for a standard magsafe socket. It has to be a MacBook since there is no expresscard slot.

Or the expresscard is on the other side.

The MBP is unlikely to be able to fit all of the ports on one side, and anyway what would be the point?

Apple computers (for me anyways) are really hard to sell. I had an imac that I was trying to sell for 1000 dollars. I posted it on my colleges selling board and got nothing for like two weeks. I decided to try to snipe customers from the apple store. I told them I had the same thing for half the price and just a little under 2 and a half years apple care.... no one bit.

Base model Macbook would lose the least money

Thanks for the opinions-I was thinking of sticking it on eBay (they seem to go for good money there). Hopefully it won't come to that though. ;)

Oh yeah!!!!
Now if that would start at 1500 im sold! If they give that as an option on the macbook and i can get that on the high end for 1300 I will go berserk! :D

Me wan me wan me wan, but sadly I just got a MBP this March

I honestly prefer the new keyboard layout, I seem to make less typo with it (I borrowed and used my sis MB for quite a while ). The only thing that I would really love to see in the MBP is 3 USB, MATTE SCREEN, please Apple dont give gloss screen because eventhough it looks good, most people wont be able to use it OUTDOORS!. I enjoy the fact that I can use MBP without having to adjust the screen angle compared to my other friends whos notebook comes with gloss screens. :D

hilarious

Friends, we will have the best designed laptop in the world. And even though there are other products out there that might have a feature or two over us, my friends, we can take solace in the fact that ours will run longer, my friends, and faster, my friends.

YOU my friend, have been watching way too many John McCain speaches! ;)

Sarcasm?

Me too. Wish the current MBP had them :/

I understand where you're coming from, and would usually totally agree with you. However doing away with FW400 might be somewhat of a good thing. FireWire 3200 (aka FireWire 3, the next FW) uses the same port as FW800, and it's also backwards compatible. My guess is Apple is trying to push developers to use FW800 ports on their devices/products seeing as how FW3200 will use the same port. An adapter for FW400, while slightly annoying, might not be so bad in the long run in place of having only FW800 ports on future Macs.

Just speculation though. ;)

speculation that sounds very Apple. I would do the same, **** tech that is 10 yrs old when people keep whining that they want new stuff.

Ummm.... Just wow. I'm speechless. I don't know if I'd buy it but it certainly looks like it could be frickin' awesome! :D

Gee, I know there's some compression from the perspective, but even so that looks much thinner than the current MBP! I'll bet this thing is going to look incredible.

maybe not, i'd wait till after this announcement. Maybe they do away with MacBook with this one, or change it enough for people to know the difference.

Definitely waiting til 14/10. If anything I'd possibly go for one of the 2.4GHz MBs because I'd imagine the 2.4 would be more eye-catching to prospective purchasers. 2.1 seems rather behind the times even to me :)

And remove the optical drive

It's not possible to go into best buy and find a desktop with 1 GB ram, a combo drive, and an 80 gb HD anymore....Apple should really update or drop the Mac mini.
