They already have a 1200 vertical pixels screen.

Sorry I forgot to qualify that part of my post, what I meant was that the new regular model (If the new BMP are indeed 16:9) MBP may have 1080p.

This may actually be the new aluminum Macbook, not a MBP:

Edit: 15-inch Macbook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope so, that is something they've beens sorely missing, especially after dropping the 14" iBook.

the possibility of a Macbook 15" realy puts me back to the drawing board.

I love my macbook, and realistically, its all i need performance wise, but i need more screen.

So ive told myself for 6 months or so, to plan on a 15" MBP. Extra screen real-estate, and FASTER. Faster is always good.

Even though the 15" MB would likely be perfect for me (usage AND cost wise), ive got myself into a need-for-speed mentality, and carved out the cash to do a 15" MBP when they are released.

Now, do i save the cash and go MB, or man up MBP..

Guess i will make the shot-gun decison when i see the specs on WHATEVER it is they release, providing they do it before Nov1. If not by then, F-it, im buying a current gen.

I think it's real (MacBook Pro).

If the next MBP's end up having 90%-100% of the ports on the left side, this could mean the Optical Drive will be on the right instead of the front.
This is consistent with previously leaked pictures.

Could it possibly be an intentional leak from :apple:, just to give us hope??
Yeah, we'll need that hope since they probably won't come for another month at least.:D

Right, if someone's really clever (not me!) they should be able to work out the width of the casing (we know the key sizes and can see the width to the edge of the casing), so in theory we can work out whether the dimensions have changed i.e. 16:9 or not?

Who's up for the challenge?
I can do it, but ntrigue did it first. 16:9 according to the image.

It would be purely estimate though. The camera is at an angle and we don't know what that angle is relative to the keys, so we'd have to guess the distance from the ports to the keyboard using the width of the speakers on the current MBP's which may or may not be correct.

Physics! Math!
Actually we have the reference point of the chicklet keys, so assuming they're the same size as the MBA or Apple keyboard, we can work out other dimensions regardless of camera angle. I need CAD software now!!
The edge is slightly closer than the keys, so it would look larger. But I don't think it makes much of a difference. For more accuracy, you could use the widths of the close end and the far end of the keys, draw a linear model that extrapolates to the edge, and then figure out the lengths from there (average of close end and far end).

The MacBook Pro is already thin enough for the amount of power it packs - the heat problems and the fan noise. It looks a lot thinner than the current MacBook Pro.
25 W CPUs here we come! 2.6 GHz » 2.53 GHz downgrade here we come! Low-end GPU on low-end model here we come! MacBook "Semi-Pro" here we come already are!

Question: Should we be worried that this is picture is only of the casing?

One might think that if the Macbooks were to be in stores a mere 6 days from now, any leaked pictures would be of the completed product.

Thoughts?

Way to dash my hopes.

Or maybe this picture is of just the casing, before it goes on in the manufacturing process and gets all the components in it.

I have a feeling this is for a new MacBook. I can't imagine Apple would put a MacBook-style keyboard on a MacBook Pro.

thats what common sense would tell us. Its not like they produce all the casings there going to make, then stuff um with components. Manufacturing is an ongoing process. Im sure if this is real it was a quick snapshot at a QC station probably like a 1/4th down the line

It's there, starting from the left of the esc key.

Give me higher resolution or give me 16:10 (back).

I'm kinda excited about 16:9.
I was wondering too...
just checked it...is there :p

doing a comparisson of the current MBP-MB left side..

I also think this must be an Alu 14-125 inch Macbook....

I think it makes sense to try and make the entire notebook line more seamless. It seems kind of silly to make a 15" MacBook and sell a 15" MacBook Pro keeping features separate such as the backlit keyboard and FW800. Kind of like the old powerbook range with the 12" 15" and 17" but without the iBook to make things messy.

How about MacBook (entry level with integrated graphics) MacBook (high level 13") without integrated graphics, 15" and 17" as norm. That's 4 sizes all with the same "look" and slightly cheaper prices from the Pro's as suggested in Apple's comments of lower profit margins.

Is the MacBook Air another cube?

The first actual shot amongst all the rumors. Strange that Apple isn't holding an event though. Appears as though we are viewing the upper-left case where the screen would meet the bottom case.

I'm going to get some measurements assuming the keyboard is the same length as that found in the MBA.

CAPS LOCK KEY = 1.25"

MBA FROM CAPSLOCK TO RETURN = 10.75"
IMPOSED CAPSLOCK KEYS FROM CAPSLOCK TO EDGE OF CASING X BOTH SIDES = 5"

The bottom casing is 10.75"+5.00" = 15.75"

The MBA screen-enclosure (measured diagonally) to bottom-case ratio is 15" to 13"

That ratio applied to 15.75" would suggest 18.17" accomodate for the fact that screens NEED some border and we have a 2-inch reduction.

The NEW Macbook 'Brick' will have the rumored 16" screen. TRUE 16:9 resolution!

Sorry, but the key hole you indicated would be the shorter tab key, not the caps lock key. So your calculations are incorrect.

That might be the completed product, with chickless keys. :p

no the macbook air is not another cube
The tablet would be one imo though

Sure, a 14" MacBook with 1366x768 resolution, 16" MacBook Pro with 1600x900 and 18" MacBook Pro with 1920x1080 resolution would be just fine.
Although, I am not sure about the last one though.

No the tablet would not die IF they came out with one.

The macbook air as we know it will die 13.3" notebook. But the macbook air is another line of notebooks.

Macbook:entry-level
Macbook Pro: professional
Macbook Air: ? when the new revised version(s) comes out we will know what the line is suppose to be about

16:9 advantages:

Wider so no "black bars" when watching 16:9 movies
Wider so easier to display two things side-by-side
Cheaper panels
High-res 13.1" 1600·900 panel has no 13" 16:10 equivalent
Can fit a full-size keyboard in a smaller display size
16", 18.4", and 21" displays are physically wider than 15", 17", and 20" 16:10 displays for similar heights

The benefits are in apples favor.....ALSO....they want to be the king of all media...

But, do those 16:9 displays come with LED backlighting?
If they don't, Apple won't use them.

All the displays that Apple uses can fit a full-size keyboard, so this is not an advantage of the 16:9.

Cheaper? It would be interesting to know the actual price of a 1600*900 13.1" display, because I believe it would cost more than a 1280*800 13.3". Of course a 16 or 18" 1600*900 would cost less than a 1680*1050 or a 1920*1200 15/17" display, but it would have also less pixels (let alone LED BL).

Until manufacturers come up with LED BL 16:9 displays with resolutions up to 1920*1080 on sizes no bigger than 18.x",we would be better served with 16:10 panels.

16:9 panels is the latest PC manufacturers hype, because they still don't know how to differentiate between themselves!

So right now, the only "advantage" of 16:9 displays on notebooks is no "black bars" when watching 16:9 movies.

What I would like to see from Apple (in the meantime) is:
13.x" 1280*800 LED BL glossy (like the MBA display) on the new 13" MB
15.x" 1440*900 LED BL glossy (like the current 15" MBP) on a new 15" MB
15.x" 1680*1050 LED BL matte/glossy (new resolution) on the new 15" MBP
17.x" 1920*1200 LED BL matte/glossy (standard) on the new 17" MBP
