simX said:Heh, OK, despite the fact that a MacBook Pro will probably beat out any PowerBook G4 on startup time, that time trial test was heavily biased in favor of the MacBook.
First off, note that he was talking about a 1.0 GHz Titanium PowerBook G4. The latest PowerBook G4 had a 1.67 GHz processor in it. That would likely significantly reduce startup time, but probably not enough to match the MacBook's startup time. Also, note how the Titanium PowerBook boots up to a non-default desktop picture, and also with a bunch of icons on the desktop. This indicates that the Titanium PowerBook is not starting up to a pristine condition (which would be a reasonable assumption anyway), and that's going to affect startup time as well -- startup items, etc.
He also comments about "display brightness" in the video... several iterations of the Aluminum PowerBook G4s each had brighter displays than their predecessors, so the comparison between the latest PowerBook G4 and the MacBook Pro probably wouldn't be as significant as shown in the video.
But I digress. It's kinda weird knowing that there are Intel-based Mac laptops out in the wild now. It looks the same, but it's different!

Didn't think of this as I don't stay at a college. 😱 Is there no way you can get it delivered to an office or something?runninmac said:You know college right? But it took the MacBook Pro less than 30 seconds to boot up. My iMac G5 can't do that.simX said:Heh, OK, despite the fact that a MacBook Pro will probably beat out any PowerBook G4 on startup time, that time trial test was heavily biased in favor of the MacBook.

Old slow, uncompetitive.
Welcome Intel Duo!
who really cares what the inners look like - most will never open up their powerbooks. As long as they are competitive with PC laptops.. its all good.
