Mine arrived this morning around noon, at my HOUSE
I'm off at college, so my parents have to ship it to me...
Freaking WEAK SAUCE
Why didn't you put your college down as the delivery address?

I am pretty intrigued by the progress made running a Microsoft OS on intel macs.

I would love to be able to run certain windows-only applications reasonably well...

almost enough to trade in my G5.

Good bye 15" PowerBook. I will dearly miss you. The TiBook was one of the major things that made me fall in love with Apple.

Its a Total Eclipse of the Heart 🙂

oh intel...what have you done to the inside of our beautiful macs?

PLEASE don't tell me your trying to start that conversation....I mean it's a freaking laptop...plus look at the pics MattG linked to, you can't be serious 🙄

Heh, OK, despite the fact that a MacBook Pro will probably beat out any PowerBook G4 on startup time, that time trial test was heavily biased in favor of the MacBook.

First off, note that he was talking about a 1.0 GHz Titanium PowerBook G4. The latest PowerBook G4 had a 1.67 GHz processor in it. That would likely significantly reduce startup time, but probably not enough to match the MacBook's startup time. Also, note how the Titanium PowerBook boots up to a non-default desktop picture, and also with a bunch of icons on the desktop. This indicates that the Titanium PowerBook is not starting up to a pristine condition (which would be a reasonable assumption anyway), and that's going to affect startup time as well -- startup items, etc.

He also comments about "display brightness" in the video... several iterations of the Aluminum PowerBook G4s each had brighter displays than their predecessors, so the comparison between the latest PowerBook G4 and the MacBook Pro probably wouldn't be as significant as shown in the video.

But I digress. It's kinda weird knowing that there are Intel-based Mac laptops out in the wild now. It looks the same, but it's different!

I have a 1.67, and I just tested my boot time: 1:21.....

You know college right? Would you trust you ~$2000 just sitting either in your dorm room with your creepy room mate or sitting in the mail area waiting for anyone to pick it up?

Hope it gets to you soon! Shouldn't take too long, should it?

Didn't think of this as I don't stay at a college. 😱 Is there no way you can get it delivered to an office or something?

But it took the MacBook Pro less than 30 seconds to boot up. My iMac G5 can't do that.

Woah, that's kind of scary for me. I'm in the U.S. right now (I live in Canada) and my old Ti 1 Ghz PowerBook is starting to crumble apart one me, but I won't be back home until the second of March. When I ordered my MacBook the estimated ship date was the 16th of March... If they're shipping them out this soon there's going to be no one home to collect my beloved MacBook!!! 🙁

my new MBP 2.16

its been better than christmass over here... I actually took off work when i got the notice that it had been delivered.... it is so great... I was suprised how easy Ichat worked... i hooked it up in less that 5 min and its easyer to get connected than microsoft messenger... I maxed out my options got 2gig of mem... 120G Hardrive... and i think that when i got the option to upgrade to the 2.16 it bumped me way to the front of the line...not back a month like i was told... Oh.. i was also suprised at how cool the power cable was.. it literally jumps into place..ive been reading postings and im suprised no one with a 2.16 has posted anything....

RIP 15" Powerbook

She was a fine philly but I wish her the best in the next life.

Do you think that discontinued Macs go to heaven?

I cant wait to see this beast out of emulation!

Thanks for the great roundup!

Yeah, how cool when its all native. Glad to see the MBP is already equal or better than my current powerbook. Can't wait for the rev b. I'm stoked.

so, what is the difference between...

your parents shipping it to College vs. Apple shipping it College? 😕

But when the parents ship the MBP to him, won't the same thing happen... the computer will either sit in the dorm room or in the mail area?

EDIT..........

Looks like gmanrique's thinking the same thing

Right but now your parents will ship you the powerbook and the same thing will happen...won't it?

EDIT: Aww sw1tcher you beat me to it! 🙂

At my college they have these big mail boxes that the USPS/FedEx/UPS put packages in and then they put the key to the big box in your little mail cubby. Kind of like the ones at a roller rink.

Anything has to be better the G4 Powerbooks....

Old slow, uncompetitive.

Welcome Intel Duo!

who really cares what the inners look like - most will never open up their powerbooks. As long as they are competitive with PC laptops.. its all good.

AMEN!!!

How about just buy it from a reseller? Isn't it possible to sometimes buy a BTO Mac from a reseller?

7200 Hard Drive Question...

I got my 2.16 MBP w/1 gig of ram and 7200 100 gb hard drive. One question I have, not to sound like I don't trust apple on this but since it was a CTO option - how do I check to make sure my 100 gb hard drive is spinning @ 7200 oppose to 5400? Do I just look up the hitachi make/model and check out it specs online. Or is there a way to system profile it, although I couldn't find that detail in the system profiler. If anybody could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated, I just want to be able to check and there's got to be a easier way then google-ing the drive and reading its specs, someway to do it using apple's own OS and goodies right? I hope so 🙂 Also, thanks in advance!
