And earlier I read someone that said if you had a problem you wouldn't have seen the difference between the shots. Totally agree with that. If it ain't broke, dont fix it. No one should sit here and look for small imperfections, you'll just end up driving yourself nuts.

My stock, 15" 2.16, 1 gig ram, 120 gb hd C2D MBP has no grainy display at all. I have a matte display, and I can see from the comparison photos on the first page. The left one looks way messed up, while the right looks normal. However, there's no problem like that on mine whatsoever. The whole screen is actually very nice, no dark spots anywhere. So maybe not all of them are scrwed up. Cheers! :D

Can you tell us what model display you have?
System Preferences -> Displays -> Color -> Open Profile -> Scroll down to #13
ie: 00009C60

yes, that is the infamous screen. I have it as well, in a matte finish. It comes in glossy as well.

I would say its grainy, but it hasnt bothered me since i received it 3 weeks ago. I found out about the issue through this thread. i believe we should make a petition for Apple to fix this issue--through a firmware update or new LCDs. (Firmware updates for PCs with x1600s seem to fix the graininess issue. I hope its that.).

the 9c60 is the lcd that has issues, regardless of what iBorg says (sorry). a quick search of "9c60" in posts reveals different problems from graininess to uneven back-lighting.

though the lighting doesnt bother me (i dont notice it at all) as much as the graininess.

Well, i guess if i wanted to i could say mine is a tad bit grainy as well? But actually i don't think it is at all. i think your mind tends to play tricks on you when your looing for something wrong. I think my screen is totally fine. Sorry to thsoe who have ones that aren't. :(

Dern. Well maybe they'll release some firmware or soemthing that will fix it? Or possibly let t be returned for fixing? Either way, unless my screen gets really bad, i'm fine with what it is now. What erks me is that it doesn't sit on all 4 corners evenly when opened. Now THAT'S annoying.

Whether or not you perceive it as grainy might just depend on what you are used to... My previous laptop was a vaio with glossy display (and the vaios have quite good displays) and I definitely notice the grain on my matte mbp. I was surprised, though, when people said that this is also an issue with the glossy mbps...

Gotta call "********" on this one. Earlier, all the threads talked about how the "9C60" was the better screen, now this thread says the opposite.

Your screen may be defective, but mine is flawless - no "graininess," no "uneven lighting," no "dark areas," nothing. Just an incredibly bright, brilliant, glossy screen.

Too bad about yours though......

:p

Maybe you should move on? We all know YOU have a "flawless" display now. You dont have to post it after every other posts where someone says theyre having a problem. Also...whats with the "thumbs down" on every single one of your posts?

i have the 9C60 screen and also have this issue... just thought id share. I hope this can be fixed--its definitely noticeable even from a normal viewing distance--not solely from up close

Me too, I sent mine back and needless to say Im furious with Apple for their crap quality. If my replacement exhibits the same issues then thats it, good bye Apple...good luck. I dont have time for this ********. Back to a trusty thinkpad or high end Hp Nc with xp/vista. I dont want to have to choose between a great OS or reliable hardware. This is my 6th Apple computer going back in less than a year.

i should also mention that i have the glossy screen. I just got my computer today, and noticed this graininess right away. On top of this, the right side of my screen, as well as the bottom is noticeably darker than the left side. If i look at the screen from the right side (looking right to left) the screen looks uniform in brightness. Looking from left to right, you can noticeably see that the screen is darker on the right side. This is also very noticeable viewing the screen dead on. I just got this computer today... this sucks. There is no way in hell I can deal with this screen for the life of this computer. After only 3 hours of using this thing, its getting too annoying for me. I hope I dont have trouble exchanging this... and I hope this exchange happens quickly. This is ridiculous

Do you get crosseyed as you use this thing?

Guess I'm not nuts, the screen really drives people haywire.

I generally just post a response to this when someone says "all the MBPs have this defective screen" or "Apple sux, I'm gettin' a Dell!" There may be some bad screens, but it's not all! And because of posts claiming "endemic defective screens," I read other potential MBP buyers being scared away. That's irresponsible.

And the "thumbs down" is generally in response to a "sorry, but I don't believe you" post. "You" (anyone, not you in particular!) may have screen issues, but I know what I see, and this screen has no "defects."

I think your replacement will have the same issue.

I'd get it repaired at their service centre instead of just foregoing it altogether.

Trust Apple!

Im not sending a 3 day old computer to be repaired thats f-in absurd. Only with Macs eh...this is pathetic. Like I said, if its the same its going back, Im getting a full refund and Im gonna see to it that I be compensated for all my hassle.

Thats great, and No I dont personally believe that ALL screens are defect thats why Im getting a replacement, we´ll se what happens.

I have that problem on this MBP that i am using also. I am not that bothered as it is only a temporary MBP whilst i await my C2D to ship.
The grainy display looks worse in Windows especially. I will mention it to the Apple rep who has been dealing with me. I just hope that my new replacement is not like that.

dude, iBorg, I dont get why you cant understand that this is a problem that must be dealt with. The second I booted up my computer I noticed this issue--and its NOT just when looking up close at the screen. I can easily notice this issue from 4 feet away from my computer (on whites at least), and Im not exaggerating.

I dont understand why you dont believe certain people when they say they have this issue. Ive been a loyal apple user for 13 years now--Im not trying to get people to not buy this computer. I love getting my friends to switch from PC to apple--this issue is not about turning people away from this computer. Its about how pathetic and unacceptable it is that a machine this expensive would have this problem. So, we're all happy that you have a perfect screen--it gives us hope that we too can have perfect screens, and that not all MBP C2Ds are like this; if they were, I would return this computer and not buy another.

Why do you think people would fabricate issues such as this? I think thats a pretty ridiculous notion. Im not trying to attack you, but cmon man, have some sympathy for people like us who have been dying to get this computer, and are now finding themselves unable to deal with the screen. It sucks enough having this problem... we dont need you telling us that we're making up these issues as well, on top of force feeding us the fact that you have "The Perfect Screen" as well. We all know by know that this isnt a problem for all computers, so ease off of us dude.

If I came off as "not believing" that people are getting bad screens ... my apologies. That's not what I feel, or meant to convey.

My last post was meant to explain that I'm just (I think!) responding to posts that claim a universal pandemic of bad screens in MBPs. I'd be PO'd to spend this much on a notebook, that I've waited for, for months, and then find problems with the one component that you see every time you use it - so I do sympathize with you, and truly hope that Apple does right by you all, and fixes/replaces these!

Peace .... :)

alright, thanks man. To continue with the topic, I am now unable to look at this screen anymore. Words go out of focus because my eyes are so strained, and my eyes are beggning to hurt pretty badly. On top of this, my spacebar makes an incredibly annoying squeacking sound whenever it is pressed. I feel like i am going crazy. This sucks so much

I will wait and see how it goes for you guys.

In short I have never seen a lousier LCD than this.

1) It has grains, but that's ok
2) It has uneven backlighting, but that's ok too
3) It has a ridiculously narrow viewing angle, what the **** is with this.

^^the grains are ok for you? Maybe my computer is granier than others, but as I type this i am not even looking at the screen because it hurts my eyes so much. I am not exaggerating this issue at all--the words are going out of focus, and my eyes are EXTREMELY strained. sorry if this post is repetitve of my one above... this just REALLY sucks

EDIT: I just saw your post about going crosseyed from using this. Yes, this completely happens to me. Id send the computer in for just a screen replacement, but my comp has frozen 3 time already (keep in mind, ive only used it since 5 oclock today for probably 4 hours total time) and the spacebar squeak is making me tweak out.
