If Apple announced when they were going to update something, the sales for that product would die. No business wants that.

Peryn refresh for the iMac too plz.

This is the industry and you need to learn the game before you start playing it. I'm apart of a big company as a designer and I know the ins and outs of how these big companies work .

Wow! Where's the "Bow down to superior knowledge" smilie

Apple may not care about the one or two hundred times $2,500 but it and its shareholders sure care about several hundred thousands x $2,500.

Apple is a supplier of technology and, in order to keep up with it's competitors and hence keep the share holders happy, it's not prudent to keep the punters waiting :p

LOL I know I'm the man...jk....maybe not

Well this topic is rundown like a hooker on 9th street. see you all next tuesday. Good debate, see ya out there.

Okay everybody, blame me. I'm sorry. Stevie J was reading this last night before the big MBP release and then he saw my post a couple pages back and thought,"Oh shoot! I forgot! A new keyboard!" and now we all have to wait.

On a more serious note, is getting excited over a Feb 19 release plausible? Thoughts?

Well, MBP got here a litle while ago. Haven't unboxed it yet. My nurse is to clutsy to with electronics and connections to let handle expensive equipment. Gotta wait on my sis this evening. But the Order form in a taped bag outside the box lists it as a 2.4GHz, 160GB HDD as well.

Well COOL! Even though its most likely not a new version, you at least got an upgrade, and thats always nice to have! One would assume Apple is clearing out stock to make room for the new versions, and you benefited from that. It would sure work for me!

:)

I would buy a refurb if i got the student discount on it.....

Thats what im sayin!

Speaking of the "student discount", check this out:

Apple Store WITH student discount:$2,813.42
Newegg WITHOUT student discount:$2,794.00
Amazon WITHOUT student discount:$2,609.10 after $150 rebate

Thats for the 17'' MBP w/ no extras. All including shipping, tax, etc.

Get it from amazon and basically get ur applecare for free heh.

KTHX for the "student discount"

FYI, NEWEGG doesn't honor the student discount, I asked heh.

I've decided to spend my money on a new tattoo

There’s Always Next Tuesday

What do ya'll think?

"Meh" release 2/19, or "Wow" release 2/26? Easy choice.

On a more serious note, is getting excited over a Feb 19 release plausible? Thoughts?

I hope not.

I mean, I've been hoping every Tuesday that _this_ is going to be the week for a new MBP.

But at this point, I think a 2/19 release means that we're getting a "no surprises" release. On the other hand, if Steve decides to intro this thing at the 2/26 event, then that could mean there is something unexpected here, a redesigned case or other features that are thought to be more newsworthy.

So I'm hoping for a 2/26, "worth the wait", introduction.

Hmm i am really tired of waitin .. i wanted 2 shift to Mac 4m PC with the MBP.
I'v been waitin 4m december for this update and the jinxed tuesday never seems to come.

Steve just give me a date and i will wait . My patience is running out.

I'm also very tired of waiting... it's been months! and my computer is dying as we speak... Anyway, no more "Next Tuesday!, let's wait for it!!"... There's, for sure, going to be an Apple event on the last week of February. If they don't introduce them by then, then it won't ever happen until mid-year. And then, I'll buy mine even if it is an old one, or consider the possibility to go on with Windows. I really wanted to switch to Mac, but damn! can't wait anymore....

Could SSD be the new stuff?

Wondering if the hardware update will go in the direction of SSD? Seems like a logical next step. I was excited to see what would happen today, since I just got done saving for my first new Mac. Guess I'll wait another week to replace my used 12" powerbook.

Told you so....

My tattoo reads: I ain't waitin' - too busy livin'

As I said yesterday, Feb 12 was far too close to the MBA launch and that it made zero sense to do an update of the MBPs. You want your new product to shine and enjoy its time in the limelight, right?

I reckon this event at the end of Feb sounds about right for new MBPs, so if I were in the market for one I'd just try to get a sense of perspective and calm it down a little....

On a more serious note, is getting excited over a Feb 19 release plausible? Thoughts?

I think it's plausible if only because Apple has released something new every Tuesday since back in January. With the release of 10.5.2 yesterday and Aperture and TV 2 today, the only "expected" (and I use that word w/caution) items left are the MBP update and the iPhone SDK announcement.

If the event on the 26th is likely for the SDK, then what'll they do on the 19th?

Speaking of that event on the 26th to which so many of us are pinning our hopes and dreams, is there any further confirmation that it's even happening? Or are we stacking rumor on top of another?
