WOW. That is a VERY exciting rumor. I find it interesting that they say nothing about the MacBook getting LED. So, what exactly is the time frame on this? Are we waiting until next Tuesday, or the 26th? All I know is I can't wait to get my hands on the new Pro. Come on, Steve, or Intel Penryn makers, or whoever you are: let us have it!!! Hopefully somebody can prove the Intel Penryn delay too, to make this rumor concrete.

All of these machines feature the gesture touchpad, new keyboard, LED screens and super-sleek thinner case designs, longer battery life, lower weight than the existing line-up and 802.11n WiFi capabilities.

Okay, my bad. So, does "these machines" include the new 13"? This discrepancy between the new 13" being a MacBook and a Pro is interesting, although with their green theme it's likely the MB's will have LED. And, there is discrepancy between the 'think evolution, not revolution' part and the above quote when referring to case design. How much sleeker could they make the MBP? No matter, I'm going with a 15" MBP, with(hopefully) black keyboard, multitouch and all.

Now let me ask you all one question, can anyone provide proof that Intel's new mobile chip has shipped in volume? (While some manufacturers claim the laptops with the new chips are in stock, I have yet to see any ship and there are only one or two reviews on Penryn based laptops thus far).

This was probably already posted early on, but engadget mentioned a rumor that all new penryn laptops would be taking several weeks longer to ship than originally planned... Due to a problem with a thermal sensor. The shortage was supposed to last through February. Which would seem to substantiate a possible Feb 26th release...

yaaaaayy!!! another rumour that MBP will show up this week or next.

how many posts have there been saying defiinately in the next two weeks

every two weeks theres a rumour saying that

im not expecting much of an update so i wont be disapointed

anything else is a plus

i really gave buying the old one some thought

but apple are selling technollogy from 9 months ago at the same price it was then

try sayimg macbook pro without saying mmmmmmmmmmm

lol

Figured I'd let you guys know I got my MBP up and running after lunch today. It is the current model and not an updated model. Also even though I was suppose to have been getting the entry level 2.2GHz, 120 GB HDD MBP the specs on the Order Status page was not wrong. I was sent the mid-level model. I checked my credit card status and was only charged the $500 upgrade cost for the entry level model.

Couldn't figure out how to crop out my serial # from the screenshots so I cropped specific areas. I had to update to 10.5.2 but it came with iLife '08 on it. An updated model may be around the corner but I got more than expected for my money so I'm quite satisfied. And this 15" screen is much nicer than that macbooks 13" screen. The backlite keyboard is pretty nice too :)

I hope there won't be much of a delay till it arrives down here, once it's released. I mean we are a hell lot of closer to the actual production location than the U.S ;-).!!

Exactly right!

I hope they are as fast getting them to us, just like they were with the newest iPod range. I remember being at work the night of the Keynote, and my manager once there were no customers around, brought out the all new iPod stock that had already been shipped to us (all except for the iPod touch).

The Macbook Air we're still waiting on even, and from what I've heard it might not be until the end of this month/March until we get them :(

OK, before I post this, please be advised that I have just as much disdain for unsubstantiated rumors as the next person. Having served in the military, I know that loose lips sink ships. I have yet to find anything about the upcoming MPB release that I find credible, including Hardmac, or various other sites who post one or two lines sighting a so called source. I bounce back and forth between here and the apple insider forums and have observed a member over there called tailpipe (Joined Aug 07) makle two posts over the pasts couple weeks that I find interesting. Take it as you will, believe it or not, it is entirely up to you. For me, this is the best and most believable discussion I have heard thus far about the new MPBs release. Even if it is not true, it still is a good read.

His first post was on 02-01-2008 @ 11:12 AM:

"This info comes to you from London via an Englishman working at Apple, (and there are more than you think ;-))

A revised MacBook Pro with a Leopard 10.5.2 update was meant to debut at MacWorld but neither was ready.

The delay for the MBP was caused by Intel Penryn processors not being available due to some production glitch. As we all know, Apple doesn't like to announce products too far ahead of their shipping dates - with the notable exception of the iPhone - so decided to delay the launch. Penryn-based PCs now good to go and begin shipping Monday.

Expect new MBP 15-inch and 17-inch within two weeks. 17-inch gets LED.
New MBP DOES feature a slightly revised case design with the new black keyboard from MBA and a larger trackpad, but is basically very similar to existing design. Think evolution not revolution.

The idea is to achieve a commonality of look across the range.
SSD will be an option offering an exceptionally fast boot time < 30 seconds.
Also seen lurking in the corridors of Cupertino was an aluminum MacBook 13". Initially available in silver, my source reckons anodized black, blue, pink and other colours will be available around September. New MacBooks will be a big story later this year. One of the range (I don't know which, maybe the black one) will have a superior spec that basically makes it a MacBook Pro 13"."

His second post was today, @ 11:17 AM

"The all new MacBook Pro was meant to make its debut at MacWorld in January. The big story was meant to be that while 2007 was all about the iPhone, 2008 would see Apple return to its roots: computers. Steve Jobs had planned to reveal a brand new 17" MacBook Pro, a brand new 15" MacBook Pro, (and, if my source is correct, there was even meant to be a brand new 13" model, but it isn't clear whether this was MacBook Pro or MacBook - but it is definitely aluminum). Having introduced these machines, the "...and just one more little thing." was meant to be the MacBook Air.

All of these machines feature the gesture touchpad, new keyboard, LED screens and super-sleek thinner case designs, longer battery life, lower weight than the existing line-up and 802.11n WiFi capabilities. What screwed up the launch was the manufacturing problem Intel is having with Penryn processors using the new 45Nm process. THEY STILL HAVEN'T YET SHIPPED IN VOLUME. Given that Leopard 10.5.2 wasn't ready either, the decision to pull the launch was made as a delay between announcement and launch would have killed Mac sales. As things stand, Apple will not launch any revised laptops until Penryn is up and running. That is expected to happen later this week or next week.

For these reasons, Apple is holding a special event in February which will include the iPhone SDK but no 3G iPhone yet.

Apparently, the decision to pull the launch of the revised range was only taken just before the MacWorld Conference and SJ was not amused. Fortunately, the MacBook Air uses a unique processor that was ready in time so this was unaffected by the penryn problem.
So, be patient, friends, new MBPs are coming. The delay isn't Apple's fault.
By all accounts, we'll all be delighted when these machines show-up. They'll be worth their WAIT in Gold."

*crosses fingers for the 20-six release date..*

The rumored 13" MBP mentioned in the link above would fit my needs perfectly.

on another note I was over at appleinsider like most of you probably are, reading some more of tailpipe's posts. i think he is legit, just curious, what do you guys think

It's not very hard to sound legit, trust me. I'm not really trusting on any rumors that "have a reliable source" without proof. Considering the fact that macrumors and hardmac both "had a reliable source" and they both were false.

Like a good majority here I wish :apple: would just release the damn thing! I MB is being handed down to my folks.

what do you mean he's legit? His first rumor said 2 weeks, and it didn't happen, now he says the 26th. It just makes it sound convincing cause he thinks that they weren't ready for MacWorld so they made a February event.

Sorry but isn't the Feb26th event suppose to be for the iPHONE SDK only? Why would they throw in new releases of MacBook Pro if the MAIN EVENT is Iphone SDK?

They (Apple) certainly need to release something soon. I would guess that sales of the MBP would be being cannibalized by the more recently updated MB line which seems to me to be better value.

The $1000 (Aust.) price difference from the top whitebook model to the base MBP is not justifiable. Sure you get a slightly bigger screen, better graphics, more base ram, and a slightly higher-res screen - but it's not worth an extra $1000 in my opinion.

while I'm waiting and EXTREMELY excited about the mbp update, at the same time I'm not so excited about the penryn problems and the possibility of picking up a new mbp rev1.

tough situation as the update potentials sound exciting and worth waiting for and on the other hand the current mbp is at what rev? and is rock solid with all the kinks worked out...

Throw in a story that sounds believeable, (but not too believeable) use correct grammar, add in a few buzzwords and anything can sound legit

Steve jobs emailed me, it said:
"Yes the Macbook Pros will release in the next 2 weeks, don't buy now."

ROFLROFLROFL

I'm not sure how big this media event on the 26th is supposed to be, does anyone know?

I ask because, other than developers of course, I'm not sure if the average person really cares about the SDK or even knows what it is. It just seems like you would schedule a media event like that to announce a product update that maybe was supposed to be announced in January but wasn't?

I'm hoping anyway... can't wait much longer than that. C'mon :apple: Let's gooooooo!!!!

If the delay is because of Penryn manufacturing problems, I'd rather wait for :apple: to be confident that Intel has it all sorted then get a dodgy MBP and have to send it back to get repaired. Anyway, the longer it gets delayed, the more time I can waste reading posts saying it will get released in the next 2 weeks! :)
