I think it's plausible if only because Apple has released something new every Tuesday since back in January. With the release of 10.5.2 yesterday and Aperture and TV 2 today, the only "expected" (and I use that word w/caution) items left are the MBP update and the iPhone SDK announcement.

If the event on the 26th is likely for the SDK, then what'll they do on the 19th?

Speaking of that event on the 26th to which so many of us are pinning our hopes and dreams, is there any further confirmation that it's even happening? Or are we stacking rumor on top of another?

You aren't "expect"ing new displays...? They're *years* old! iMac, Mac Mini? And beyond that, Blu Ray support, 3G iPhone... I don't imagine they'll be bringing these out in addition with a new MBP and iPhone SDK every Tuesday from now on, but you should have them in mind ;)

Ha. Yeah, maybe I did overlook a few things. I guess I've got a one-track mind lately. Plus, I've been on this PBG4 so long I forgot that external displays actually exist!:)

I'm done. I've been watching the rumors sites for 3 months and I pulled the trigger on an MBP 15 today. Checking this blog is just too frustrating.

I'm a designer and my fear is they will switch to a glossy screen. I prefer the old keyboard as well, but a glossy will be a deal breaker for color evaluation.

If, by chance, Steve does introduce in the next 14 days and the specs work for me, I'll return it and pay the restock fee. That gives me 2 more tuesdays, although they'll be less stressful tuesdays.

good luck to all....

I Think Is Is Coming

I downloaded the Leopard update on my iMac yesterday. Tonight while doing the same on my 3 year old PowerBook G4 it was much different. After installing the laptop started 2 or maybe 3 times and I just new all my stuff just went into the "air". Finally when it started the last time it really seems much better and almost like a new laptop. Now I think that Leopard 10.5.2 was needed for several reasons. On another post I stated that before MacWorld that I just purchased a new Airport Extreme and was really happy with the new 802.11n and was all set. After the announcement of Time Capsule I returned the new airport ( within the 14 day grace period ). Ordered the Time Capsule and my order stated shipping by February 29th delivery by March 5th. Reading these forums I understand that there were several seeds for the 10.5.2 and think that has a relationship with the shipping of Time Capsule. Every tuesday there has been several updates released and the last and best will be the MacBook Pro with the colors that has been reported around on the Apple campus... black brushed aluminum, and many more fantastic goodies that Apple has for us faithful and alway complaining following ;) !!

BOLD = words of interest

Black AL would make me blow my pants, and would def make me feel good about paying the 200$ restock!!!

I'm just sick of these kids saying "Yah, I talked to a guy that works for Apple and he said 2 weeks." , "Yah, my dads friend works inside Apple and he gave me a wink and a nod that the MBP will be out", "Yah sources say hardmac says feb 12", "The lady in the Apple store gave me a nervous look when I asked why there was no more Apple stock".... "Yah I checked BestBuy and Futurshop and all their stocks were all out", "Yah all the stock was out in the Apple stores today"............. wow get real.

I've decided to spend my money on a new tattoo

There’s Always Next Tuesday

What do ya'll think?

i guess yea it COULD be next tuesday, but if that apple event is real for feb 26th then more of a chance he "throws a party for it " then and celebrates apple catching up with asus and sony's laptops (couldnt help it just had to say it)

BUT then again, he released the new macpros about 1-2 wks BEFORE MW right? And he did it quietly as well.

Could be either way really. To be honest this is one time I am TRULY wishing I used Cubase instead of Logic, as I would just buy a laptop and desktop pc and be done with it. But, the poison of loving the actual use of logic, so frustrating.

hello all

Hey guys,

I'm a recent convert to Apple from Windows, and last month bought a Macbook Pro without knowing that an update was imminent. I was directed to this site by a friend following my purchase and was gutted to find out that I had bought an almost outdated model. An awesome computer, but nevertheless, an older model.

So, I went and refunded it. I had it for five measly days in total. Thankfully down here in Australia we don't have this "Restocking Fee" that you guys have been talking about, and considering I work at the place I bought the Macbook Pro from (a massive electronics retailer here) the refund was a smooth process.

I've been on here reading through these forums for hours every day since and just decided to make an account and to add myself to the list of frustrated people out there that are still waiting... Not to add, that whenever it is actually released, down here we're probably going to have to wait a little longer until they are actually shipped to us :(

I know that it'll be worth it but ;)

That was really annoying as I was expecting a updated model. As for those who say not to wait and buy now? I can't buy now as what would I buy ?
I'm looking for a upgrade from my 2.4 SR 17" and the 2.6 isn't enough of a upgrade.
Whenever it comes ...it comes and I like many will buy it.

I think threads like this are more about enjoying the suspense and pure naked speculation then anything else and I enjoy that as well.

2 Years On

Well, the rumours that Thursday 14 February 2008 (tomorrow in US) will see the release of the new Macbook Pros could have some merit considering it is exactly 2 years after Apple released the Intel based Macbooks. Don't believe me refer to this url:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2006/feb/14macbookpro.html
Would it would be unlike apple to throw a random birthday party?

If there are people that are actually returning their Macbook Pros because of an imminent update, then that is a good indication for Apple to hurry up and release this thing! I wonder if they read these forums.

I don't understand how they can get away with charging the same price for a machine that is 8 months old already. It would be a little bit more understandable if they decreased the price over time, obviously. I recommend to everyone that bought a Macbook Pro recently, to return it, it's kind of a waste of money anyway. You are paying the same price parts from 8 months ago, which have drastically decreased in price, it's robbery! I am sure they are waiting for steep decline in sales before they release the new one, because the more of these old ones they sale, the more revenue/profit they get.

Return them all, this will make them act quickly!

Updating MB and MBP at the same time?

When they minor updated MBP with a small CPU bump and larger HDD last November, they also upgraded MB. Is there any possibility that they are updating both again with a multi-touch trackpad?

I hope there won't be much of a delay till it arrives down here, once it's released. I mean we are a hell lot of closer to the actual production location than the U.S ;-).!!

I believe this is part of the strategy of releasing brand new redesigned hardware with new features and performance upgrades, yet usually keep the price the same as the current line. They keep all model pricing constant for the lifecycle it is sold.

Although I would really love to see the new MacBook Pros announced on Valentines Day, note that back in 2006 February 14th was a Tuesday.

OK, before I post this, please be advised that I have just as much disdain for unsubstantiated rumors as the next person. Having served in the military, I know that loose lips sink ships. I have yet to find anything about the upcoming MPB release that I find credible, including Hardmac, or various other sites who post one or two lines sighting a so called source. I bounce back and forth between here and the apple insider forums and have observed a member over there called tailpipe (Joined Aug 07) makle two posts over the pasts couple weeks that I find interesting. Take it as you will, believe it or not, it is entirely up to you. For me, this is the best and most believable discussion I have heard thus far about the new MPBs release. Even if it is not true, it still is a good read.

His first post was on 02-01-2008 @ 11:12 AM:

"This info comes to you from London via an Englishman working at Apple, (and there are more than you think ;-))

A revised MacBook Pro with a Leopard 10.5.2 update was meant to debut at MacWorld but neither was ready.

The delay for the MBP was caused by Intel Penryn processors not being available due to some production glitch. As we all know, Apple doesn't like to announce products too far ahead of their shipping dates - with the notable exception of the iPhone - so decided to delay the launch. Penryn-based PCs now good to go and begin shipping Monday.

Expect new MBP 15-inch and 17-inch within two weeks. 17-inch gets LED.
New MBP DOES feature a slightly revised case design with the new black keyboard from MBA and a larger trackpad, but is basically very similar to existing design. Think evolution not revolution.

The idea is to achieve a commonality of look across the range.
SSD will be an option offering an exceptionally fast boot time < 30 seconds.
Also seen lurking in the corridors of Cupertino was an aluminum MacBook 13". Initially available in silver, my source reckons anodized black, blue, pink and other colours will be available around September. New MacBooks will be a big story later this year. One of the range (I don't know which, maybe the black one) will have a superior spec that basically makes it a MacBook Pro 13"."

His second post was today, @ 11:17 AM

"The all new MacBook Pro was meant to make its debut at MacWorld in January. The big story was meant to be that while 2007 was all about the iPhone, 2008 would see Apple return to its roots: computers. Steve Jobs had planned to reveal a brand new 17" MacBook Pro, a brand new 15" MacBook Pro, (and, if my source is correct, there was even meant to be a brand new 13" model, but it isn't clear whether this was MacBook Pro or MacBook - but it is definitely aluminum). Having introduced these machines, the "...and just one more little thing." was meant to be the MacBook Air.

All of these machines feature the gesture touchpad, new keyboard, LED screens and super-sleek thinner case designs, longer battery life, lower weight than the existing line-up and 802.11n WiFi capabilities. What screwed up the launch was the manufacturing problem Intel is having with Penryn processors using the new 45Nm process. THEY STILL HAVEN'T YET SHIPPED IN VOLUME. Given that Leopard 10.5.2 wasn't ready either, the decision to pull the launch was made as a delay between announcement and launch would have killed Mac sales. As things stand, Apple will not launch any revised laptops until Penryn is up and running. That is expected to happen later this week or next week.

For these reasons, Apple is holding a special event in February which will include the iPhone SDK but no 3G iPhone yet.

Apparently, the decision to pull the launch of the revised range was only taken just before the MacWorld Conference and SJ was not amused. Fortunately, the MacBook Air uses a unique processor that was ready in time so this was unaffected by the penryn problem.
So, be patient, friends, new MBPs are coming. The delay isn't Apple's fault.
By all accounts, we'll all be delighted when these machines show-up. They'll be worth their WAIT in Gold."

Now let me ask you all one question, can anyone provide proof that Intel's new mobile chip has shipped in volume? (While some manufacturers claim the laptops with the new chips are in stock, I have yet to see any ship and there are only one or two reviews on Penryn based laptops thus far).
