I see both 15's in stock, For some reason they only list the 17" under the macbook pro category, click on Macbook and scroll down.

My latest venture...

Today I stopped by my local BestBuy and Apple stores in the Pittsburgh area and when I mentioned something to the guy at the Apple store all he said was, "I am not inclined to talk about future products." But my one glimmer of hope came from the guy at BestBuy who said that they were told they are supposed to getting some new Apple computer as of Sunday but he didn't know any details of it. He also said that there was going to be something in their Sunday ad about it...but I am sure it will be some other product that noone is overly excited about. So, here's to another week of being a forum junkie and looking for any sign of hope. I just want this thing to come out so I can give my current computer to my little sister for college, but at this rate she may never get it.

If he was talking about the Best Buy ad for Feb. 17-23, it doesn't look like anything new to me (check pg. 3):

Either another colored iPod... to which no one really does care about.
Or perhaps else they'll be advertising that they now have MacBook Air in stock.
I would seriously doubt that BestBuy would have the jump on announcing that they have updated MBPs in now in stock. Cause if they do, BestBuy and Apple have a much larger marketing agreement than anyone expected.

I like to think of these rumors like I think of psychics.

They can miss 98% of the time, rumor after rumor guessing next week! next week! and everytimg be wrong. Then, on the one time they are right, that person is going to SCREAM it to the world how right they were in their predictions!!!

But still, if those additions are accurate, I'm glad its time to retire my Tibook just when these come out.

It's not about what we need, but rather ONLY $ they can earn.

If there are people that are actually returning their Macbook Pros because of an imminent update, then that is a good indication for Apple to hurry up and release this thing! I wonder if they read these forums.

I don't understand how they can get away with charging the same price for a machine that is 8 months old already. It would be a little bit more understandable if they decreased the price over time, obviously. I recommend to everyone that bought a Macbook Pro recently, to return it, it's kind of a waste of money anyway. You are paying the same price parts from 8 months ago, which have drastically decreased in price, it's robbery! I am sure they are waiting for steep decline in sales before they release the new one, because the more of these old ones they sale, the more revenue/profit they get.

Return them all, this will make them act quickly!

I use Apple out of necessity. I can't do anything but give them props for design, functionality and reliability. For both hardware and software. But, as for EVER caring about what the customer needs? Not going to happen unless those needs fit with their ability to earn big dollars. Period. And I have no problem with people earning money. But it ought to be about more then just the money. And I am not talking abut the fine people whom are working for the company, but more the people running the thing.

Now, I NEED a faster MacBook Pro for my livelihood. I am now capturing video in the ProRes HQ format using a Macbook Pro and an AJA IO HD capture device. I have 2 IO HD's and 1 of 6 laptops that will barely work for capture. In fact the minimum equipment for the IO HD is a 2.33 MacBook Pro. Minimums are, well, they are just that..the absolute minimum. I have had dropped frames on more than one occasion. Like I said, I use Apple products Because I have too. Just recently my 2.33 MacBook Pro quit working correctly. It is 1 years old and still covered by the extended warranty. They told me it would be $1450.00 to fix it. Part of that was a keyboard (the actual problem) the rest was a new main board. They said something must have spilled on the computer. Nothing spilled on this computer. I own a total of 4 desktops, and 6 laptops, that are Apple. I told then to skip the main board and put in the new keyboard. That cost $150.00. And low and behod, the 2.33 is working perfectly!

The extended warranties on all my Mac's cost me $3090.00. And they charge me for a keyboard?? I need a faster MacBook Pro to do my job. I am not wanting to put anyone off here. But my experiences with apple customer service are what they are. What service? When I purchased my first mirrored door G4 there was a deal to get $500.00 off the then $3500.00 23" display. I went to an Apple store and they sold me the computer, and sent me to a different store to get the monitor. I was told that all I had to do to get the rebate was to purchase both items on the same day. I never did get that rebate. I it took me over 10 hours on the phone over 30 days to be told that it was my fault that I did not buy them in the same store. And not one apology from the Manager of the store whom told me that all I needed to do was to buy both items on the same day. Apple must have needed that $500.00 more then it needed me as a customer. Apple is ALL about the $. Did I happen to mention that I use Apple products out of necessity? And probably will continue using apple products only out of that necessity; or until someone cracks OSX to run on a PC. What a great day that will be. :D

Good day,

Carmine

Hey guys. This is my first post. I don't know if anyone has posted this info yet, but I looked at the rebate offered by AMAZON and it says you must purchase by Monday, February 18th. Any possibility this points to a MBP update to be released on the 19th (which is a Tuesday)??? I mean, why would Amazon offer this great rebate only through a Monday? Seems to me they might know the new MBPs come out on Tuesday Feb. 19 and therefore offer this rebate until the night prior. What does everyone think of this possibility?

that's one option, if amzon knows the release date.
If u rather doubt that, than u can assume amazon does the same as we all, listen rumors and guess. If they don't come the 19th they just start another offer till the next tuesday afterwards ....

cheers

I think you could be onto something dude.. Also, I checked the Best Buy website and the highend 15" model is Sold Out and it's not possible to backorder it. I've never been on the Best Buy website because I don't live in the U.S but I would think this might be some indictation of an impending update.

Go the 19th Feb!!

naw its too early, they usually give the thing on sale for 2 weeks, then they show an updated model. So I would say 26th or March 17th is now likely.

MacBook Pro on Feb 19th ??

Well this has been a long wait and nobody is sure when our MBP will be out.

Yeah 19th is yet another tuesday, this is yet another speculation, all we can do is hope this is the day.... but

the delay seems to be due to the unavailability of intel penryn chips in bulk as discussed in the forums.

The SONY website suggests that FZ series vaio notebooks with penryn are available 4 preorder and will be shipped 4m 19th Onwards.. yes the 19th ( a tuesday ) . Could this be because there was an agreement with apple and other notebook vendors on the release date . It may not be true but there is a possibility.

The other noticeable fact is that AMAZON has a rebate on the MBP's and it expires on the 18th (just b4 the 19th), and there is no rebate on the MacBooks which suggests that they want to get rid of the MBP inventory. Even BestBuy has a MBP model sold out and its not available for backorder ... fishy eh .

What would the new MBP consists ??
- new penryn processors : cud be T8300, T9300, T9500
- new keyboard :like the one in MB Air
- new multitouch trackpad :similar to MB Air
- OLED displays (low possibility)
- a bit thinner than older MBP if LED displays are used
- optional Blu Ray DVD (low possibility)
- improved graphics : nVidia 8700M GT, 256 MB VRAM

let us hope that 19th is the day, if not may be 26th ( an rumored Apple event ) ...... otherwise ....... ask Steve Jobs.

Its about time someone spoke up and stops accepting the scraps apple is throwing down for us expecting us to think its a full meal.

My experience wit their support is , to be absolutely fair, not really so bad, but I really would have flipped out a bit more in that situation. a 500 rebate is a 500 rebate. thats enough money for a full pc system really, or for that matter, a gift for the wife so she doesnt complain that u just blew 3Gs otherwise. and to hang u up on a technicality. hehe sounds like an insurance company.

totally with u, apple also have a "monopoly" on me in that I only use and trust Logic to get my work done. I liked logic better when it was owned and supported by emagic (apple acquired it as of version 6, its at 8 now), and really, emagic LISTENED to their customers (and also responded).

Since logic 8 came out, i have verified and reported 2 bugs in the program, and not one response saying "yes we've been notified".

Sean, you say you use Logic 8, are you a musician? I am just wondering, I heard that macbook pros have 2 phantom power inputs, is that true? I am thinking to use cubase for my drum recording and other musical works.

Phantom power "inputs"? Do you know what phantom power is, and what it is used for?
No, the MBP doesn't have phantom power, and especially not as "inputs".

wouldnt go so far to say "musician" but producer yea i guess :) no sure if the MBPs now have a phantom input but a cheap usb or firewire interface with that built in would be all u need, and they are tiny.

oh yah true, I am thinking to buy the external interface that has the input. That makes more sense.

oh yah true, I am thinking to buy the external interface that has the input. That makes more sense.

Best thing is buy a slandalone small preamp that's ONLY made for as a preamp, and shoot it into a interface.. but a interface with one built in is a good on the go solution.

The MBPs already have LED displays. They've been shipping that way for months. I'm sure it will be standard on all of them this time. And, the 'rumor' from appleinsider(the big one about the :apple: guy in London) also states Air style keyboard and sleeker case design, which I'm counting on just because the Air is so modern and the current MBP case is so old that they have tons of reasons to refine it. Multitouch is pretty much a given, as well as improved graphics. I was at the Chicago :apple: store the other day and asked a couple sales guys about the new MBP, and of course although the knew nothing concrete one guy seemed really optimistic about a Blu-Ray drive and how "it would be totally awesome!". I personally think it might come as an option but standard is unlikely since they're not cheap yet; however, I do think it coming standard would be a big statement though, both to the solidity of Blu-Ray's triumph over HDDVD and to Apple's willingness to have its products move technology forward. Anyway, what with all this mounting evidence on the 19th I think it's a go! Sure, call me a macrumors newbie but it's hard to argue with the fact that two completely unrelated companies are making preparations that significant. Come on :apple:, let us have it!

Yeah u r rite. Its for sure that Blu ray wud not be a standard .. it cud be an optional. I just hope that it wud be a BluRay ROM and not a writer as it wud be a lot cheaper, considering the heavy price apple charges for optional parts.

Common :apple: give it 2 us !

Well, it seems obvious that new MBP's are coming, but...

The rebate from Amazon is true, but there, also, says that there was recently a rebate similar to that one, that ended on Jan 28th... Could be that they're guessing just like us.

It is true that they are out of stock at BestBuy (at least one model) which is weird because that's not supposed to happen unless they're getting new ones...

About the whole Penryn thing... I think it is merely a coincidence that Sony is starting to sell their FZ computers on the 19th. Do you really think they would agree on a date, like someone suggested?

I'm also one of those who's been waiting for months, but I wouldn't hold my breath for an update on the 19th. Feb 26th seems more feasible... I never thought they needed an event to show a new MBP since all the features it's gonna get have already been shown, but it seems like they do need an event... It seems probable as a "one more thing" at that event.

everyone keeps saying the same thing, like "yah bestbuy had no more stock left etc." I thought I heard that 3 weeks ago?
Ok but yah you are right, it probably is just a "One more event". I think in the end it the puzzle fits. It all makes sense.

Penryn Chips were not available at MacWorld
They pulled out of NAB early
Apple is holding its own special event earlier because the MBP's that were suppose to be shown at MacWorld can now be shown at the iPhone SDK event.
Bestbuy/Futureshop prices for MBP's have been slashed and you can't back order anymore, they are now out of stock.

this actually comes together to make sense, it is very likely the MBP's will be out on the Feb 26th event. I REALLY doubt it will be out on that false rumor of March 26th. The best time would be Feb 26th if they were smart.
