Wow! I think we all know Tosser is right, about everything. Sorry for the transgressions, Lord Tosser, and thanks for setting us straight. Now, anyone care to get back to speculating about the release of the MBP? A few pages back somebody posted something about a black aluminum case, but I personally think that's not going to happen-it would be incredibly cool but too radical. And I'm really vouching for white backlit keys, I think they'd look better than the Air black ones. Thoughts? Dreams about YOUR favorite new MBP? As to the release date, let's take a poll:

A) It'll be this Tuesday, 2/19. With evidence(?) mounting in favor of the dwindling supplies, and the changed ship dates of new computers, it's inevitable.

B) It'll be next Tuesday, what with the media event. Releasing the 19th would be a waste: no publicity, no marketing reason to give it to us yet.

C) Waiting and hoping for ASAP; nothing is concrete in the world of :apple:!

I'm personally an A at this point. I'm not jaded yet of Tuesday suspense. Changing ship dates are cause for excitement. And, I think they'll have it in-stores the day of the announcement. It's the new style.

Sorry to break it to you, but your sarcasm is misplaced to say the least. I argued my point, something you apparently are incapable of, since you fall back on pure sarcasm with no contents whatsoever.
I guess it's better than using strawman arguments as some tend to do, though.

no the "new style" seems to be "shipping in two weeks"

I agree with the reasoning in B. Why would they release it on a normal tuesday when they could release at an event a week later.

The only thing that concerns me is that Apple still has not made any mention of this event. It has been rumored, but why would apple not announce it, when it is only 10 days away?

that's kind of what i'm thinking. if they don't announce it by tuesday, i doubt there's going to be an event.

LOL, now isn't that the big question. But we are talking about Apple after all.
Probably the only time you can be 100% certain they'll announce anything is at MacWorld, and we have 11 more months before that rolls around again.

So we sit and wait and hope and pray and curse and dream and whine and complain. But at least its a cheap hobby to have. :D

There is a lot of weight behind this argument. Regarding the release of the MBP, exactly how many Apple products have been released w/o a big announcement?

They haven't had MBP appear with any big fuss or large announcement ceremony for the past few updates, so I don't think that it will be different for this release as well. I think the big announcenments and releases are reserved for things that are new, or relatively new (such as the Macbook Air, or the Iphone SDK)

I'd guess an event like the one likely to occur at the end of the month will be for a single product. Marketing wouldn't want to launch more than one product at a time, why shoot all your bullets in one go?

Now this event could be for a complete new MBP although it sounds like a iPhone event.

I doubt Apple will go for a completely new model MBP until the next processor and chipset appear. After all why go to the expense of R&D on what is after all a processor and chipset coming towards the end of it's lifecycle. Remember the Nehalem based CPU's will require a new socket so that would be a good time to completely redesign a notebook.

If it's just a minor spec bump then it doesn't warrant an event but will attract enough attention to Apple in the media for those looking for a new laptop. Rather like the Mac Pro and previous MBP updates it's likely to occur this Tuesaday or one of the Tuesdays follow the iPhone event.

No evidence but just a hunch we'll see a Penryn update on Tuesday. Exactly the same run down in stock occured when they updated last June. I doubt they'll keep this run out of stock going for another two or three weeks as they wouldn't want to lose several weeks of sales.

I still expect LED's all round and Penryn processors.

No evidence but just a hunch we'll see a Penryn update on Tuesday.

We've had this so many times :(

I just hope that this time our hunches are fruitful!

In regards to cnote's poll - I'm going for an A or B (preferably A). I'm stubbornly refusing to accept anything longer than that a possibility. Please not March 17th!

I wonder if they will also use an event to update the MBs at the same time if there form factor changes as well.

Then I wonder if the graphics cards will all get updated so the MBs can make better use of core stuff...

I think the general sentiment is please let it be A but it's probably B. At this point, I am personally kind of 'in the middle' because I'm selling my Dell online(Red Inspiron 1520 Core 2 Duo, 2gb mem 160gb hd). And, I listed it one week ago today and it didn't sell, so I have to relist it. I think the release of Penryn computers might hurt the overall price of mine so as much as I'm hoping for an update, it might actually be counterproductive in my efforts to get a MBP. Oh well, at least seeing the new MBP will make me that much more motivated to sell it! And, it would be really nice to know exactly what they'll do. I still think A is a definitely possibility and I'm going to keep hoping.

Not sure what they will do about the keys. Depending on how much they plan to change the actual design of the thing, they will probably leave them as they are, or add the black backlit keys from the MBA, which is what I think they will do.

I quite like the new keys, but think they would look better in silver to match the colour of the case like the current MBP keys do. I cannot see them producing a silver version of the new keys though. I do like the iMac keyboard with the white keys. It would be very nice to see that on the MBP, but my guess is they will be black.

As to the release date, let's take a poll:

A) It'll be this Tuesday, 2/19. With evidence(?) mounting in favor of the dwindling supplies, and the changed ship dates of new computers, it's inevitable.

I think I am a B at the moment. I hope I am wrong and it will be released this Tuesday, but would image :apple: would wait for the next event to lauch this. What else is being lauched at this event on 26th apart from the iPhone SDK? Would :apple: put on a big event just to launch the SDK?

I wonder if they will also use an event to update the MBs at the same time if there form factor changes as well.

MBs were only just updated to SR with x3100s about 3 months ago... it'd be way too soon I think. We should be seeing MacBook Pro, iMac, ACD and Mac Mini updates way before MacBook.

Question: this event, is it for sure that it'll happen? I thought that was a rumor still?

I'm fairly certain it is still just a rumor that everyone is taking for a certainty. Apple certainly hasn't announced anything and the only quasi-verification I've seen is a claim that the firm that Apple uses to hire for these types of events has hired big for the 26th. So yes...it's still a rumor.
