9to5mac and hardmac says the event is official. I don't remember it being a rumor anymore.

And expect the new MBP next week or the week after where the event happens. I'm not gonna get my hopes up this week cause that's just too fast. They JUST slashed the prices, usually they give it 1-2 weeks and not the following.

i've been following this thread for a while now, and i'm needing a new computer and am trying to figure out if this thing is ACTUALLY going to happen.

i need a comp. how possible is this rumor?

The possibility of new MacBook Pros on February 12th is pretty much 0.00% ;)

They're certainly due "soon", however soon could be a week or two from now or many months dependent on Apple's plans, of which no one here can be fully certain.

ya. lol. figured the feb 12th date was no good.

so what all will be updated?

perhaps the touchpad, and then a new chip? or so we think...

Well, besides the obvious with the 12th, nobody knows, really.

Apple pretends the november "updates" were real updates, although they were only just some added build-to-order options, irrc. If Apple really think those were updates, we could go to late summer or so, before seeing an update. Not that likely, though. But people waited a loong time for Mac Pro updates.

Now, if I were really speculating, and really pessimistic, Apple might not update them until new processors are ready. And with intels problems and the HD-DVD/BLuray war it could take quite a while before an update were. That would also explain the MBA and products like that: Slowed down products that "added" (at least in public's eye) something new. Steve Jobs "****, we need something to fill out the vacuum! Hurry think of something!?"

And the product to come out of that is a computer using parts they already have plenty off. The only part they need to source (and not in huge quantities) is the SSD.

On the other hand, they could be updated tomorrow with Blueray drives, faster processor, FW3200, and a complete redesign.

The thing is: Nobody really knows.

so i either wait and maybe don't get an update for a long time. or buy and then an update in like 2 weeks....damn technology market. something new is always coming out.

I have wanted to get my own laptop for a couple months now and i have a job and have saved up enough money to buy one. I am going to college next fall so i dont know if i should buy a laptop now or get one right before next fall to get the newest version of the macbook pro. Lets say a new macbook pro comes out this tuesday, the 19th. If i bought one right away do you think that they will make better improvements on it by next fall and make a better one, and will they need to fix major problems with the first batch of them so should i wait a couple months until the make one that works really well. Im just not sure if i should get the new macbook pro when it comes or should i wait until they get a lot of the beginning problems out of them and get them at the end of the summer, i really dont want to wait that long. Im very new to macbook pros, did the first batch of laptops with the santa rosa have problems, and if so were they mechanical probs or could they be fixed with a quick downloadable update. Thanks

buy one now, buy one in a couple months. there is always going to be something new and improved coming out. especially with computers. you just gotta be happy with what you have.

i remember i bought my computer(a dell :-( ) right before i went off to college. and within 6 months they had a new model out with all new cool features and stuff. it's served me well and i have been happy with it. it's done everything i needed for school. and that's really what it comes down to. just gotta be happy with what you got.

Yeah, within 6 months, not a matter of days/weeks like the scenario a current MacBook Pro customer faces. That's some pretty terrible advice to be giving out on the cusp of an update. Advancements in tech and competition make the MBP no longer worth the June 2007 introductory RRP it continues to have.

I'm sure it's still as capable a machine as it was when it was intro'd (why wouldn't it be), but after a certain amount of shelf time you can no longer warrant the purchase as easily as you could before.

so you're telling me that there is going to be an update in two weeks without question? more power to you if you're right....and if you're wrong, and updates don't come for another 6 months??

you can't disagree that bigger and better things come out all the time and that within months something better will be out there.

I don't think that it is just coincidental that all of the stores (bestbuy, BH, etc.) are running out of MBPs and there has not been an update for over 6 months. If there is not an update on tuesday (16th) or at the 26th event, I will be shocked!

can someone change the title of this thread, it is like the one talking about the new MBPs titled "New MacBook Pro's on Tuesday, June 5th 2007" (updated: 02-14-2008)

Seriously! There should be an ongoing thread that just says, "New MBP next Tuesday?"

HA! Amen. At least if it's this Tuesday or next we can all comment on the 'Apple Releases New MacBook Pro' rumor forum! And hopefully within a couple of weeks thereafter, comment as OWNERS of said new MBP. Fingers crossed!

The thing is: Nobody really knows.

I'd imagine that there was some bean counting financially on not having a BluRay option until a) the war finished (which it has - Toshiba's EOL'ing HD-DVD) and b) The blu ray units dropped price (which it has a bit - a cheaper laser's come out recently, and expect more drops and possibly more aggressively than DVD or CD tech, as they want to make DVD redundant, and us to buy more units.
As for other delays, it could well be Intel side of things. Apple doesn't jump the gun on CPUs usually either - there haven't been too many releases with the new Intel-Apple lineup - so it could be a small or long delay.

Nobody really knows - but we can all speculate, and from the rumors, by a fortnight tomorrow, we should have some more new Apple product lust :)

Same old "there'll always be something new coming out" shpiel. Look, this isn't August 2007 or it'd be an entirely different discussion; it has been a LONG, LONG time since an update and there is a huge likelihood that updates are around the corner.

I'm not dropping $x,000 on old tech at an old price. It doesn't represent good value anymore.

As much as I would love to see some super updates to the model, at the bare minimum, I would like to see the entire MBP line drop in price to a reasonable representation of the hardware within.

They are still charging upwards of 3k for 9month+ old technology.

Im rooting for upgrades though ;)

i'm not trying to dispute the fact that updates are imminent. i believe they are. but at the same time, you can't tell me that it's the same old "shpiel"..whatever that is. something new is always coming out. sure, upgrades are due to happen. fantastic. apple should lower the prices of the current MBP's. but regardless, new stuff DOES get developed all the time, and WILL continue to get developed

either way...i want updates already

Just posted this on another thread. I met this guy who gave me a heads-up on what's coming... Total redesign.
