MacBook Pro Now Shipping Plus Speed Bump

Anyone know how long ago the orders were placed that are being charged to cc's today? I ordered mine a lil over a week ago so Im just curious where I might be . My order says estimate ship March 14th which stinks cause I will be out of town when it actually arives then . I went to the Aplle store Tuesday and they didnt' even know when they were getting any in . I cant' take it much more

A week ago!! You'll be lucky to see it before March and if they say the 14th, that's when it will ship from the factory, not when it will arrive.

Most people who have tracking numbers I can assume will have ordered after the keynote finished on January 10th, many within the hour. I couldn't tell you how many of these people ordered after that date, if indeed any.

i haven't seen anyone with a tracking order that didn't order the day of the keynote yet... so it wouldn't surprise me if people who ordered over the last couple of weeks start seeing theirs shipping sometime over the course of the next two weeks leading up to feb 28th.

now, just for those CTOs to start shipping...

You can't take it anymore!? Some of us have been waiting a full month longer than you. You are probably 3rd to 4th batch so you better just lay back on your easy chair and watch a good DVD, I doubt you'll get it before March which isn't that far away actually.

My MBP just shipped. ordered 1.83 (now 2.0). I did NOT upgrade to 2.16.

Just changed over to "shipped via FedEx on Feb 18" even though it's still Feb 17 in states (presume it's showing Feb 18 because that's what time it is in China).

Ironically, I'm sitting in JinQiao PuDong Shanghai china right now, and am 3 hours away from a flight back to SFO. I wonder if my MBP will be sitting in the belly of my plane (probably not, of course, but the thought is nice).

Until now my order status said shipping on Feb 23.

sweetness... just checked my order and it says you cannot cancel it online! woohoo, means at the least, my macbook is being built and getting ready to be shipped! btw, i'm a CTO which changed ram and upgraded hard drive.

good news for all us CTOs! looks like they'll start shipping tomorrow!

I can still cancel my order, at least the 2.0 part of it, cannot cancel the 1.83 upgrade part or the apple care. Weird

That's a good sign! (The 'early' shipping part.) And you're right, it won't be in your plane. FedEx uses their own planes exclusively.

I wonder if you had given a China mailing address (i.e. where you were staying) if you would have gotten it today?

It's a custom, upgraded hard drive + iWork preinstalled... so god knows when it gets sent hehe. Glad to hear yours is on its way though!

Mine was custom also, upgraded harddrive. the key is if it is 2.0, those are the only ones going out so far.

Need 17" 3 GHz With FW800 & 4GB RAM Minimum

Well now that I've graduated to Quad, I'm feeling the need for speed more than ever. So I've revised my minimum specs that will inspire me to graduate to my first MacIntel Mobile Platform. I don't see wanting one without FW800 - could be solved with a expansion card solution, Dual 3 GHz - spoiled with 10 GHz, and a minimum of 4 GB RAM - 2 x 2GB sticks - spoiled with 6 GB to begin with on Quad, 6 x 1 GB sticks. Maybe I will change my mind when I see the first 17" model. But right now I think I may have to wait for version 2 of the 17" model if none of the above are in it.

One other thing. This quad is fast, but still way too slow for a lot of video compression work. Looking forward to 8 processors next year. I've been told by an Intel employee that we may see quantum leaps in speed achieved in the next 12-18 months. It won't be too soon for a man as old as I am. This video work is really time consuming when you don't have as much power as can crush video at a fraction of the real time of the content. This Quad crushes HD to iPod at 2x while the Dual 2.5 took 4x. What we need is .1x or faster ASAP.

I suppose if the Barefeats benchmarks can show the Intel Core Duo @ 2 GHz is comperable to this Quad or a Dual 2.7 GHz G5, I would probably bite as long as 4 GB of RAM is possible.

I am kind of worried. I surfed around the "Apple Discussion Boards" a little
bit and it seems as though people who cancelled their order on the 14th of February and then re-ordered ,are getting theirs shipped (even CTOs), no matter what date they formerly ordered.
There is two or three people who had an initial order date of late January or early February, then they cancelled and noe theirs is already shipping...

Now there's a huge surprise. A global company that is America-centric. This continues to really really really really pi*s me off. If you can conceive of a swear word then it went through my mind 10 times at least when I read your post. Jesus Christ, what rational do they have for this? America is the main market... whoopy f*****g do. Any glance over Apple's recent revenue streams clearly shows that Europe is catching up at a tremendous rate and that it will eventually exceed the US unless something changes there. Your fastest growing market should be on an equal par to your home market. It's just good business sense.

I used to work for a large US investment house in London and the NY office's attitude really stank until they started to realise that the London office was catching up and that they were no longer people from a distant and backward land.....
