personally i like the way it looks... but still im not so sure these pics r real... looks like a imac rip to me... w/e it will b ill buy a new macbook pro fo/sho!

well they want to make everything look alike to cut down costs of manfacturing so they can delever a cheeper product. They can just use the same screens as the imac...

if it does so what? more money for apple as its better specs in the long run

Two 9600M GTs or 9650M GTs linked by SLI in a MacBook Pro would make me doubt whether or not I'm even awake, that would give you high end graphics performance in a portable Mac...

Say it to yourself, "high end graphics performance in a portable Mac". Sounds strange yet.. somehow... beautiful.

best part is, its BEHIND the screen, so it makes it really clean looking
I'm a matte fan but I think I'll have to give it a whirl if there is no other option. I think it will look a lot better in person.

That would be awesome. I'm really excited to hear what GPUs they are using.:D:D:D

Drop the mac and its still strange.... wonder how much battery life will be? As well as options to turn of the graphics options to make the computer have longer battery life

I see a lot of people are still a little confused about the trackpad.

Supposedly (according to a source on daringfireball) the trackpad *is* made of glass, or has a glass layer of some kind, and the entire thing is a button itself. You can push it down and it will 'click', so it isn't just a standard tap the trackpad to click.

If it acts like a button in the sense that it makes a clicking sound, that is annoying, but fine, but if it acts like a button in the sense that the entire trackpad actually presses down, that would truly be awful. I would absolutely hate that with a passion, as I tend to press somewhat firmly on the trackpad by habit. Maybe I am alone on this one, but something like this would really bug me.

Does something like this really have mass market appeal? Will the average consumer really warm up to a notebook that has a trackpad without buttons, or worse, a trackpad that is one giant clickable button? If anything, Apple should be adding a button, not taking them all away, lol...

I dont like matte because it I fell i'm using an old machine. I for one dont touch my screen, nor sit in direct sunlight with it, (witch can damage it in the first place!)

two each its own. to bad you cant switch the screen options on the fly: matte and glossy. have both and just switch them....

The 9700M GTs available in some laptops are worthy of calling high end but if Engadget haven't gotten this all wrong and there really are TWO DEDICATED GPUs in this MBP I will officially eat my words for that past 6 months about Apple and it's failure to provide a true high end portable.

Well I know on some windows laptops if you single/double tap the touch pad it acts as a left click.

The whole touch pad is a button?

I just had an idea while looking at the images of the frame. It looks like they have really reinforced the touch pad area which got me thinking maybe they did it so that the whole touch pad can be used as button.
So you can "click" the pad instead of buttons.

Make sense coz now you have the extra space that was taken by the large single mouse button:D

What does everyone else think?

why do u guys worry about the trackpad.. on these pics u cant c it realy clear.. so just wait a few hours! im sure steve will show up with some great new macbooks and hopfully cinema displays :D

Anyone agree with Gruber that they may be phasing out the 17"?

These all look like consumer laptops. It's a shame if this is the end for the Pro laptops.

It's looking more and more like they're withdrawing from the Pro market. The ACDs will probably be the next things to be dumbed-down, followed by the Mac Pro.

Bit of a dumb move, really - by abandoning the pro market, they're relying on the Apple brand remaining cool/fashionable. And one day, just like any other fashion, it will go out.

Nothing like going out in a blaze of glory, I suppose...

Dunno, maybe I'm overreacting. I was hoping and praying not to see that glossy display.

I think flexible press-clickable trackpad would be okay, but I'm not sure about the glass trackpad, because the whole trackpad moves when you press-click it. The tap-clickable trackpad without any button/click response would be the worst option, so hopefully it's not that.

This whole thing is once again "design over features" thing... surely removing a button doesn't add anything except it might look better. I usually like to use trackpad tapping with single clicks, but without an actual button it's difficult to do drag and drop etc. where you have to keep the button pressed while doing something.

omg i have a current gen mbp and get a replacement...
normally i would prefer a new one... but this update is ugly and ridiculous...
no matt display? no button? black bezel and black keyboard is just not my liking -_--

and it seams unusual that apple still have old version available through the store if the infos here are true...

Apple completely screwed up with their glossy screens on the latest iMacs. Calibrating is complete hell, if not absolutely impossible. The viewing angles are atrocious, too. And now they will extend that absolutely on the laptop market? Work in a professional environment and you will understand the frustration.

I smell recession of Apple. It has a look of more intensified Made in China. The Laptop shown looks like an ordinary PC with black screen bezel. I hope matte version of this MBP would look much better than this. Good thing there is no temptation of buying Apple product this time. EPIC FAIL indeed if this product pictured as shown is to be released. It just doesn't look like a Pro machine! Very disappointed.

meh...

i kinda like the bezel, i always thought it looked cool. glossy display is bad for windows and outdoors, in low light i think glossy is fine. but i agree that they should at least have a matte option

its kinda sad...
sony design>apple
dell design>apple

it was used to be different

What matte option? Doesn't the glass display kind of kill any hope for a matte screen option..

Macrumors added in their most recent rumors item: "In addition, [Daring Fireball] confirms what some have suspected -- that the new MacBook Pro is not available in matte-finish, only glossy."

It ain't over til Steve says so! I'm still holding on for a little bit of common sense in the Apple camp!

It seems a little disappointing at the moment, but something's telling me they are going to pull it off anyway (in a good way).

I quite like the look of that design and barring the new trackpad, it seems to be pretty much what we all thought it was going to be isn't it?
