shhhh steve jobs is watching this forum...

thats why he looks messed up during they keynotes. He stays up all night reading the "pre hash" and then responds in his keynotes by "as always we offer an option...." etc

Although I am not even close to be a professional of photography, I do work with images. I am surprised that with so many professionals here, people are still discussing this pictures. Something I learned very fast is that ou can not get information from a picture that is not in the picture. You can zoom in as much as you want or do any treatments, but resolution is resolution and quality is quality.
Obviously, this pictures were taken with a cell phone with a really bad camera (an iPhone, maybe:p) and the guy was afraid of getting caught and nervous and his hands were all shaky. If you look closer, there is something different in the top right corner that MAY BE the on/off button. But you have to understand that it is probably the same color than the surrounding aluminum and the picture is really bad. The same applies to the trackpad. Conclusion: we don't know if there is a trackpad or a power button from this picture, but I don't see anything that makes me think it is fake.
Changing subject, assuming this is real, I don't really see how to make a matte screen out of this panel. The glass seems to cover even the bezel, like in iMac. Can you make it all matte? Can you leave the glass in the bezel but make it matte in the display proper?

Well said :)

eh, luckily I am not in the market for one of these right now. I don't mind the look terribly, and especially when it taken with a crap-tastic cell phone camera. With how small point and shoots are, couldn't these "spies" take a ****-ing megapixel shot PLEASE!?!?!

I do agree with numerous comments about this not necessarily being "pro". It would be nice to see a MB, a MB consumer-Pro (the Macbook "extreme"? appeal to gamers?), and a TRUE PRO, made for whatever "pro" means to you by whatever "pro" means to you. That would be bomb, but that would mean :apple: would have a "cluttered" product line or something gay like that. What :apple: didn't understand in the past (which CRIPPLED THEM until SJ cam back and made them profitable again), and apparently doesn't understand now, is that there is A LOT of money to be made in the business market. Who will make :apple: more money? One guy shelling out $2000 for a good laptop, or a whole corporation spending $100,000 and outfitting ALL there mobile professionals with great laptops?

In short, :apple: seems to be arrogant enough to think that they know what EVERYONE wants, or just stupid enough to not try to hit all the markets they could. Consumers want a basic cheaper machine, or a powerful machine. Professionals want a powerful machine that is not crippled to look "chic".
And that's just the laptop market.
Desktop wise, consumers want a cheap basic machine (Mini), perhaps the all-in-one iMac, and a reasonably affordable tower that can hit the high end gaming market when pimped out.
Professionals need a low-to-medium end tower, as mentioned before, or a all-in-one (iMac), or a screaming-fast mind-blowing workstation, ala the Mac Pro.

When all is said and done, there is a reason that Dell and HP and IBM and all those others will (for now) always win overall: not necessarily anything having to do with OS X vs. Windows, it's just that all those PC manufacturers have actually reached out and tapped the business market, which :apple:, perhaps mistakenly, tries to cater to EVERYONE with only 6 products. I'm not saying that they should be like Dell in regards to having more than a dozen consumer products, I am saying that they should be like Dell in terms of segregating their products (at least to some noticeable degree) between the consumer and the business (professional) worlds, ala Dell's Inspiron/XPS vs. Vostro/Latitude, etc.

Well, there is my rant. I am still eager to see what all they will introduce / update / potentially cripple come time SJ comes on that stage...

Nobody has pointed out that the screen is the OS X welcome screen that is done in a number of languages.

I thought is was the reflection from a ceiling light.
Look at the reflections from the ceiling tiles in the picture. If this is the real screen it will be just as bad as the one on the iMac and definitely worse than current glossy screens on the MacBook Pro (which are plastic and not glass)...

It seems that people have applied some matte film over their iMac screens. However, you than have a layered stack of display screen, glass screen and protective film on top. I fail to see how this improves picture quality... :(

Haha "Oh Snap!" on the iPhone comment.

Very well put. As I said, it would do us ALL so much better if the dude had a half-way decent camera.

Like you said, analyzing the bejesus out of a craptacular picture is silly. We will all just have to wait at this point to see the fine details when senor steve takes the stage. That, or when someone with a half-way decent camera gets the balls to take a picture for us :D

Are you serious? A thicker MBP for the first time ever! Yay for good dedicated graphics at last!

What a 1000th post! ;)

EDIT: Night to all.

From engadget:

Update: Our source just hit us with another pic, this time from the side -- it's after the break. We're also told that there's not one, but two NVIDIA GPUs inside -- we're guessing an integrated / discrete setup like in the VAIO Z, but we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Update 2: Our source just hit us again to say that it's two full-on NVIDIA GPUs -- sounds like a hybrid SLI setup to us, which is pretty wild. Wilder still, they say the MacBook and 17-inch MacBook Pro aren't getting refreshed tomorrow, which we find hard to believe, but we'll see when we see.

WOOOOOWOOWOWOO00O0000WO0000!!!11!!! o____P

I'm so high right now it's going to hurt like a bitch when it all comes crashing down..

We'll see how they look in person. I think they don't look bad especially with 2 GPUs.:D Either way, I'm getting whatever they have for me tomorrow. I have been waiting far too long. When it comes down to it I am looking for performance. It is funny how most of you people complain about specs night and day and how macs are overpriced and under powered. I don't get why you all are so hung up on what it looks like. Let's get under the hood before you start crying.

I am sorry to say so, but I really hate clicking by tapping. On my old laptop, I keep clicking while I just accidentally drop my hand on the trachpad or so. Very annoying...
Exactly. My last 5 laptops had clickable trackpads, all disabled in preferences. I actually wouldn't mind it being implemented correctly, but in my history, they are just a not so minor annoyance. Even now with my Penryn MBP with Multitouch, still no tap to click. It will be interesting to see how I feel tomorrow, I usually have to have the lastest, but if they do end up looking like this, I will definitely have to spend some time with one before upgrading. But I guess Apple cannot innovate by adding more buttons, so elimation is innovation. We will find out shortly.

I will cry with happiness if this 2x full GPU **** turns out to be true..

I recently purchased a Sony Vaio Z about a month and a half ago because it met all of my principle requirements for a portable computer. I was sick of waiting to see what Apple would release and I needed a laptop for school. I have absolutely no regrets. I still love Macs and I always will and maybe a year or so down the road I'll get a new Mac, but as far as portables go, Sony's laptops are awesome at the moment.

The Z in particular, is stunning on first glance because it has such a beautiful and crisp 13.1" display, you think it's glossy when you first see it, but it's actually matte. It is the most amazing 13" screen I've ever had the pleasure to use. It also has a 16:9 aspect ratio, which means that for most widescreen movies, there are no black bars, which I have really grown to like. In contrast, the MacBook currently has a 16:10 aspect ratio. It is worth looking at if you find yourself very unhappy with the direction the MBP's appear to be heading in and don't mind having a Windows based machine.

The glass on the MacBook Pro's screen will be terrible for outdoors and reflections, just look at this spyshot, that picture probably exemplifies the worst qualities of the glass screen. Even if Apple offered a matte option, is this even feasible with a glass screen on top of it? Yes, Apple will likely use special coatings on this display for the glare, but look at this picture and judge for yourself how well these coatings will work for you in real life. Go to an Apple store and examine the iMac's display. Yes, it is the worst possible picture and surely it won't be this bad in real life, but it should give us some indication that there will be problems with glare and reflections on this new display, even with these coatings.

I personally think the new design looks great and will look even better once we have some half decent pictures to view. This picture hardly does the MacBook Pro any justice. I do have reservations about the glass display though, and I can understand why others feel that it is a deal breaker...

These are all just rumors, so it will be interesting to see it in it's flesh tomorrow and also hear what Steve Jobs has to say about the new direction their portables appear to be heading in.

Now I understand why Jobs insists on keynotes and trying to keep things quiet...

Everyone is bitching and moaning about how ugly it is, but as soon as he unveils it tomorrow everyone will simultaneously ejaculate and squeal about how awesome and pretty it is.

Same thing happened with the 4G Nano

Hand lotion and tissues are ready! :D

Yeah, and since it has no power button, its moving the laptop line further into the future of absurdity.

Fake.

where is it in the rules of laptop/notebooks that says the power button has to be on the top? it could very well be located somewhere else.

I'm so glad to see the back of the mouse button. To my mind it just took up unnecessary space and its now possible to have a much roomier trackpad, which is far more preferable.

I don't recall the last time I used a trackpad button out of choice - I'm sure it probably was within the last 8 years, though they do seem so.....last century :)

Hate to join the whiners, but... bah. I knew it. Glossy :( Same design as the iMac (hello dust underneath screen).

And they somehow managed to make the trackpad worse!

Sadly, Apple have completely embraced their stereotype of form over function. Not sure what to do now!

Edit:
But unlike the Air’s, the MacBook Pro’s new trackpad is made of glass, and is a button itself. You just press and it clicks. This is not like the current software option where you can enable “Tap to Click” in the trackpad preferences, but instead a glass trackpad that acts as a physical button, with a click you can feel.

Will reserve judgement on that one, at least if it has some form of tactile feedback there's hope. Glossy = major fail though, and due to the design I can't personally see them doing a matte option.

I was definately in the market for a new Macbook Pro. Seeing this, however I think I'll simply pass. I will most probably pickup the current Macbook Pro on ebay or something at a cheaper price. I really don't care if this has a better hardware. It's just that I cannot do without a mouse button! :(

In short, :apple: seems to be arrogant enough to think that they know what EVERYONE wants, or just stupid enough to not try to hit all the markets they could.

It's the other way around. I don't hear any community ranting about the new Thinkpads or Dells or whatever. We are arrogant or stupid enough to think that Apple is able or wanting to implement every idea of the fanboy community. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely some good ideas that I personally also think Apple should pick up, but we also have to take into account that not everyone looking to buy a mac is so passionate about it, and just wants a standard machine. How many people do you think would use a trackpad with stylus for example, or how many people do you see caring about swappable harddrives or magnetic latches?

We should not forget that Apple is a computer manufacturer that needs to make a profit, and profit is made by producing products that appeal to masses. The ROI on niche products can be significant, but it is clear that the production of niche products is not apple's strategy.
