There is only one "good" and plausible one for me right now:
You know what scares me the most?
Is if the image is true and they go to the black again, similar to how the G3 laptop used to be (was it the powerbook G3?, can't recall, but see them from time to time), is that this time, they will be the same keyboard across the board.
Same keyboard for all machines. The reason that bothers me....
Is, Apple is a company that is doing pretty well, considering the market place, stock crash, main street, vs. wall street, yet, what they are really doing is saving money, saving money by releasing one keyboard for all machines, no more seperate dye's casts for different machines, macbook white, black, macbook pro, all will have the same. Which leads me to believe the rumor about no more pro per se', but just macbook and higher end macbook (pro).
If Apple is going to cut costs and make more money, then they need to put in a dedicated GPU in all machines.
FIRST MACBOOK= NO GAMES
LAST MACBOOK=NO GAMES
We all know, MACBOOK = NO GAMING due to OPEN_GL, however....
FIRST MACBOOK =70% OPEN_GL Test
Second to LAST MACBOOK = 171% OPEN_GL test and PRO's were running motion on it with ease, so, what does Apple do? They cripple it and release the X300 bringing OPEN_GL way down to 70% again.
I ask why? Why? Since we could never play games on it, they only affecting the PRO USER base which is less than 1% these days as this did not affect So if you combine Apple cutting costs (same keyboard) to Apple also changing the FIREWIRE CHIPSET in the macbook and imac documented here:
http://www.gearspace.com/board/musi...ets-can-troublesome-okt-07-till-feb-08-a.html
and add that the iMac used to come in Matte but are now much to powerful that in some ways they compete with the pro line (they made them glossy only, which really translates to consumer or audio use, but with cheaper firewire), you have a company that really is doing well, but going way beyond what need to be doing to KEEP THE PRO USER, the smallest of the bunch, TIED TO MAC PRO lines and now it looks like they will cut costs again with going all one design for the keyboard, if so, I will keep my 6 month old macbook pro as I love the keyboard, although I must admit, I have an alminum keyboard that I use with it
If thought, Apple finally realizes that if they release a good GPU on all models and stops worrying about the pro market (<1%) and releases GPU on Macbook, mini, not only will college students by macs for gaming, you will have pro's buying top of the line mac pro's, macbook pro's and extra smaller mini's and macbooks for secondary use. They would make MORE money, not less, if they released dedicated GPU across the board as gaming is HUGE and college students would snap up MACBOOKS and run windows if need be, for gaming and pro's would get them as back ups.
I know this won't be popular, but what happened to all the speculation about that conference call where they said they (APPLE), were going to do something that would cause a profit loss (PRICE CUTS?), is that coming with newer MACBOOKS?
My conclusion, Apple should release all Macbooks, pro, mini's with dedicated GPU (we're talking about a $3.00 part here), reduce prices across the board (they should be able to, especially if using the same keyboard for all machines will save them a lot of money), and since now all mini's and macbooks can play games, differentiate the macbook from pro by offering 4-8 cores (they have 8 cores out, just to much draw (power) right now and make the macbook pro a 4 core and someday 8 core machine with the mac pro coming in with two 8 cores (16 total) and then the 16 cores (1~2 years from now)....
They would make a bundle and they need to get over this fear of the PRO USER using the lower end machines. So what, they will always buy the higher end too, they would not stop buying higher end simply becuase the lower end would do the job. I know some that have MAC PRO and MACBOOK PRO, and then a windows machine or laptop with more power, they (Apple) really need to get over themselves and realize the PRO user no longer drives the market, gaming is a huge community (more than feature films make), and go after the gamer, and graphic designer who could use either a mac pro to mini, I'm telling you, with years experience in marketing, promotions, Apple will make money, not lose it by doing this, even with price cuts, they would grow to 20%, if not more, in less than 1 ~1.5 years with a dedicated GPU and focus on more cores as you move up the Apple chain.
I also believe they will dump the "pro" word someday and just differenciate due to the more cores. e.g. Macbook 2, (2 cores), Macbook 4, Macbook 8, and Mac 16 (tower).
