MacBook Pro Shipments Being Delayed Due to UPS 'Mechanical' Issues

Well. This sucks ?

So, counterpoint. I bought a maxed out 14” as soon as I could. Apple estimated delivery Nov 3-5. Updated to Nov 2. FedEx is now telling me Oct 29. We’ll see if that holds up. I can see it’s really close now and wouldn’t be surprised if it comes Oct 28.

edit: I don’t know why it’s coming fedex and not UPS. I didn’t select anything.
Apple uses both FedEx and UPS. I don't think you get a choice. My phones have always been UPS but other items were FedEx.

Those airplanes are all operated by contract cargo companies, they just have Amazon paint on them.
Not completely true anymore. They started running their own operations with their own flight crews/planes out of Cincinnati (near DHL's old US operations hub)

No surprises here. UPS is a hot mess in my experience. Maybe it’s just my local branch/drivers, but they seem to go the extra mile to screw up orders whenever they can.

Surprised by UPS’s lack of contingency plans
You gotta remember that we have a boatload of shortages. That includes aircraft parts. Can't really fly airplanes that are unsafe. UPS is known for being really quick with shipments. So the fact that they are not in this case makes me believe that the shortages are causing the groundings.

This has been my experience for every Apple product I’ve ordered recently. I think they are erring on the side of overestimating delivery dates so that people have a better experience.

It’s not just a UPS issue. My MBP was picked up by DHL on the 23rd and has been sitting in Shanghai with no tracking updates since then.

Probably an issue on the ground.
Mine must be in the same batch with DHL, with same situation.

All of those airplanes are still being operated by Atlas or ATI. No flight crews work for Amazon, nor would I expect Amazon to be interested in bringing it in-house - it's easier to keep costs low when you can whipsaw the various contract carriers against each other. :)

It could be worse.. They could have used FedEx.
I always got my new stuff shipped from Apple by FEDEX. I guess in the past few years they switched carriers. to save money? I prefer FEDEX over UPS. it did not always be that way. UPS was the best in the 1980's 1990's.
You prefer fed ex even when the delivery driver sneaks up to your door without knocking to leave a note that you missed the delivery? I think that’s part of their training

I can confirm this has happened to me. or say that they tried to deliver but never even stopped as my camera proves.

youtube is also full of fedex videos.

Ah well, looks like TNT this time was the better option. My M1 16" was in Shanghai monday night....and now, two days later, it is sitting on my desk in Switzerland.
I hope all the people waiting will have there machines soon. It is worth the wait, these are beast machines!

Oh yeah I have had it happen to me 3 days in a row. I don’t understand what incentive the drivers have to do that but they do it

To be fair they are operating exclusively for Amazon at the point they get painted, it’s not like they can slip other customers packages on them.

True, but I guess my point is that Amazon is still using a contractor to do the actual flying. So in the context of Apple having issues with UPS' reliability, it doesn't really help them to do what Amazon is doing, at least when it comes to the aircraft/crew part of the equation. Amazon is doing what it's doing because it's cheaper than using FedEx or UPS - their reliability is still tied to whatever contractors they're using to do the flying.

UPS...SSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS....
