Please let there be an option to go 1920x1080 on the 15" instead of having to upgrade to the 17". :)

Also if the start ram on the 17" is 8GB then there is a chance for going up to 16! :D

Also please let it be the same for the 15 and i am getting one for sure! :D

High-end Stock in Apple Stores?

Hello, I'm in Denver, and I'm wondering if the Apple Stores will stock the higher end versions of the 17" MBP (i.e., fastest processor, most RAM, largest SSD disk, etc.). I ask because when I picked up another MBP from an Apple Store, the sales guy said that some of the processor options were not available in the store, and needed to be ordered online. Is there a way to find out which options a particular store stocks (obviously after Thursday)? Apologies for the noob question, I just wanted to get the update as quickly as possible, and have usually ordered online. Thanks!

Is there anyone here a university student or possibly a teacher, basically anyone who has some experiences with education discounts? Right now I can save on the current macbook pro probably up to 150 pounds here in UK. So my question is how does it work when the new models are introduced, potentially priced differently. Is it gonna take some time for Apple to settle on new prices when it comes to these discounts or they come hand in hand with new models introduced. I'm just asking because I really need a laptop for my uni and I've been waiting for this release for quite some time now. Basically I want to order one asap, I'm just not sure if I'll be able to do that the same day they're out.

The higher edu discount in the UK for laptops is approx 14%, it goes live the same time the public site does. Price changes have no effect on the discount percentage. HTH

if they do have 1920x1080 on the 15" i'll be getting that one for college not the 17"

....

How the hell am I suppose to study for my math and english tests tomorrow?! when all this speculation is going on!!!

Sounds like a regurgitation of the more recent rumors we've heard.

If Apple really does take the system-on-SSD route, they better have something in the OS to make it seamless for the user. Having to deal with two partitions will be hectic for the consumer.

Anything in that recent OS X seed suggesting better SSD support?

The Seagate Momentus XT uses a hybrid drive where it caches commonly used files to the 4GB "SSD", it means you get speed without the associated costs or partioning.

It wouldn't surprise me if Apple follows this idea, or if there's another system inplace for this.

That's a pretty lousy res on the 13".

Sony Vaio Z can manage 1920x1080 on their 13inch model.

Not trying to to flame, just thought screen tech was one of Apples prides.

Yes, it is. Resolution isn't the only part of a monitor either. There's also the panel type. Apple uses IPS even in iPads and iPhones. That Sony's probably running some bargain bin TN panel.

It's funny how Apple have managed to make a previously standard option into a premium option and charge money for it. It's the :apple: RDF at work

So let me see if I understand this correctly.
Every Mac will have 16GB SSD and a SuperDrive (to play Cd/Dvds).

But if you want you can have the 16GB SSD, remove the SuperDrive and add on more SDD?

My question is...I am probably going to get a 15 inch...i5 or i7...and all I do on my Laptop is surf the web, upload/burn cds, burn/watch dvds, homework/office, and edit some small film from my HD camera...

2 Questions...
Do I go with the i5 or i7?
And will the SSD installed be good enough for what I'm doing? Or should I remove the SuperDrive and add on more SDD?

Any help would be awesome.

HD on all models can't correct. Many people my age would have trouble with eye strain. I can't look at a 17" NMBP without getting a headache. I know many with welcome this but there is also a percentage of the market that wouldn't so I don't think that will be true. I had to sell my 27" iMac because it just hurt my eyes

You couldn't turn down the resolution?

guys! best buy took the laptops off the website! remember how they accidently had them on? they took them off! they must be coming soon

I hope so! :D

It's because the c2d was the upper end of CPU's (when it was current). The core i3 is kinda the current budget model, it's offered in £399 laptops. Now performance aside to put the bottom end CPU of a range into a laptop costing over £1000 is a pisstake, even for Apple.

Yeah, I understand that. But isn't the i3 going to be SB? Wouldn't that in itself make it better?

Edit: Especially since now they are getting rid of the macbook line.

What graphic card...

If they put sandy bridge, they have only two choices.

Dedicated graphic card or intel graphic card.

I highly doubt they have a room for dedicated graphic card in 13 MBP.

Also 3rd USB port sounds kind of fishy. I expect extra usb ports on 15 inch and 17 inch, but not 13 inch.
The "3rd" USB port is the lightpeak port. That's my bet.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Sounds promising. I'm really looking forward to get one :D

Unless you have extremely poor sight, I cannot believe it was the pixels that hurt your eyes. More likely LED backlighting. The pixel density isn't that great on the 27" displays. A very small percent have problems with the LED and those people are left out. I would suggest you try antiglare films to help.

I actually just did some research on this with a scientist for a consulting project. The findings show that many more suffer from the led backlights when close to the screen. An HDTV with LED can be great, but for computer users itcan be bad. We found the best results were to use an antiglare film, lower brightness, and sit slightly farther away.

Just wanted to share. Lion might bring resolution independence too.

You know you can change the resolution right? Settings-->Display

Apple does NOT use IPS in their laptops.

All sounds interesting, but I'll wait and see what happens when it happens and still compare to the Airs.

My trusty MBP is 4yrs old, he doesn't like being started up, but once going he rocks.... until the battery realises it's age!

As for a CD/DVD drive... the last time I used one for a software install I was directed to a website to download - pointless! I wouldn't miss it for the 5-10 time it gets used a year.

Yeah, I understand that. But isn't the i3 going to be SB? Wouldn't that in itself make it better?

Oh yeah, performance will be improved, of that I have no doubt. My issue is a matter of principle. I think of it in a very basic order (I know they still use the celeron and pentium names for low-low end):

We used to have: Celeron<Pentium<Core2Duo
Now we have: Core i3<Core i5<Core i7

For them to move from the upper ranges of CPU's to the bottom is what spanks me bonce.

If there's still an option for the Superdrive that means that the dimensions won't be very different from the old MBP's. Too bad. I wonder, where are all these people who use their Superdrives regularly when they're away from home or work (where they could easily attach an external Superdrive)?

I personally don't know a single person who falls into that category. So I wonder why Apple can't create a niche product to cater to this small population, calling it perhaps "Macbook Dinosaur".

Instead they give an option for either Superdrive or internal SSD within the same unibody volume. Everybody knows that the dimensions of SSD are much less than a Superdrive, so there will be wasted space inside, which doesn't strike me as particularly elegant design.

Oh well...

So if you want a MBP with SSD, you are actually going to be buying a MBP with SSD for OSX, HDD and SSD? Surely I am not reading this right.

Does the SSD upgrade replace the Superdrive and the HDD, making it a MBA on steroids, or do you really end up with two flash drives and one traditional one for storage?

I am so confused. Can't wait to see some proper info to clear this all up.

Yes, it is. Resolution isn't the only part of a monitor either. There's also the panel type. Apple uses IPS even in iPads and iPhones. That Sony's probably running some bargain bin TN panel.

You do realize most of them get their panels from the same manufacturers? They base their designs on what they can sell the laptop for. The lower end stuff uses cheaper parts, thus keeping the price down. Typically anything around the same specs of the MBPs will be just as good, and cheaper.
