So, how much RAM is in the 15"? i wonder if it will have an hd output. I'm also really hoping for a blu-ray player, but I'm not holding my breath

so whats a realistic idea of what the 13' MBP will be like? I'm hearing a ton of different things and it be nice for someone to step up and diagnosis this bad boy because i'm sure im not the only one who wants to know! :apple::cool:

So where is the quad core mbp?

I've had my mbp 17" for almost 3 years - loved it so far, but I've been waiting for this refresh. However, I don't hear about any quad core i7's being introduced in the higher end yet - is there no rumor on this yet? I'm ready for a new MacBook pro 17" with 512gb SSD - but if it's still got dual core, it's a hard sell for me....

I know this discussion is getting ridiculous..and it's really sad how steve jobs did brainwash these people. DVD's and CD's would become obsolete when they stop making the DVDs and CDs, there is still a market for them, and I for example use the MACBOOK PRO to edit soccer videos for little kids league and I sell every copy I burn to a DVD...it just wouldn't be a pro feature to not have an integrated optical drive...sometimes I want to edit on the go, and having an external optical is just absurd and takes away from the mobility...APPLE is really getting ridiculous with this taking out/putting back features..

All in all i'm excited for this refresh but at the same time I'm scared because I know for sure we will lose something, whether it's the SD, the firewire, or something IDK, but it's typical apple to leave features so people can be brainwashed into buying their next generation of overpriced products.

I am not that worry though, if Apple doesnt provide me with something that i want, i can always protest with my wallet and buy a toshiba laptop instead.

Yeah, you're definitely in a dream world. Or Japan. There's a reason Best Buy dedicates the whole friggin center of their store to optical media.

Reality is this: if this leak is to be believed, Apple is making it AN OPTION. Which is fine. I don't know what it is with some of you elitists who don't like choice. If you want to gut your crap and remove the optical go ahead. Those who want to keep it can do so. CHOICE, people. Don't try to force it. Using floppies is not an accurate comparison because movies and music were never released on floppies.

You're putting words in some of our mouths here. You're absolutely right, it should be a choice, because there absolutely exists a need for optical media... hither and tither.

If optical media were absolutely essential, Best Buy would hide their selection way in the back, much like Safeway (et al) have their milk sort of tucked away in the furthest reaches of the stwhore, no? I'd be curious to know their current sales figures for that stuff. I mean, for one, Apple out-sells them in music.

If the Superdrive stays, it will be the same old Superdrive that's been around for years. Why would you want that so badly, when you can buy a much faster, and easily replaceable external Blu-Ray/DVD/CD burner?

I agree, the superdrive is way too obsolete. I think I use my cd drive maybe once a month? I would much rather have a slim external for when I need it, and not have to carry it inside my laptop.

no one knows for sure...plenty of unsubstantiated rumors...thats the fun...

It's sad how you view Bluray as a need. People WANT bluray because it has a nice view. It is absolutely awesome stuff. More appealing and pleasing to the eye. It isn't worthless. To you, maybe...because you're in denial.

Well you know Apple and their amazing market share will surely kill optical media the second they drop it. F the other 90% of PC's sold, and F all the DVD and Blu ray players as well they will go away as well when Apple decides ;)

Sarcasm aside, I can understand no Blu in the notebooks since battery is such a big deal to them. iMacs and Mac Pros should have it for sure, mac Mini as well. And CD's still sell pretty decently even after all these years, look it up. Then keep proclaiming its dying. Eventually you will be right in like 20 years.

If they included the external drive for free? Sure! Otherwise who wants to carry an extra drive out so you can do what you can used to do without such hassle?

I still don't know how anyone can handle the tiny 13". I get annoyed with it enough when I use one at the library.

Yes. Agreed. Wholeheartedly.

I went from a 17" i7 to a 13" Air because I wanted the latest and greatest. 13" just doesn't cut it! Waiting to buy a 15" MBP so I can unload the Air on someone!

Please excuse me if this has already been mentioned (it's a long thread and I'reading it on an iPhone), but could the 16gb SSD be for iOS? Maybe accounts for the rumoured larger trackpad too, to cover the same shaped area as an iPhone/iPad screen??
Just a thought... :-D

Has anyone thought of what a separate 16 GB drive would do to the filesystem? Has it been done like this before? Would a lot of folders on / just be symbolic links, or would just the user folders be on a separate disk, like on OS X Server? /Applications probably won't be on the SSD...

Seems like a strange choice. Maybe there's an OS X update waiting too..

Thats the $1.6 jillion question.
