Not good if the 13" only gets i3, surely the second 13" will be i5.

BTW, not that I don't trust the french, but I call BS on this rumour. They have just picked all the other rumours from the last week or so and mixed them around a bit.

Ok...I see people complaining about an i3 in 13". I don't really see into the matter that much so can please anyone enlight me, and explain to me what difference does it make when it comes to regular tasks, games, video editing, overall performance, simply anything... which process will suffer the most with 13" having "only" i3 instead of i5? Sorry for probably sounding uneducated when it comes to this, but the truth is I am not.

You could buy a cheap $50 usb hard drive and use TimeMachine...

If you only have 2 GB of info, open up a dropbox account and put it there.
Take it back when you get your new machine.

Costs nothing.

If you have a friend , make them open up dropbox (They'll love it ) and deposit another 2 GB there. Gets you another 250 mb.

It's possible the OS host drive won't even be visible to the user by default. Also, you can configure a Mac Pro with up to 4 drives. Not strange for apple at all.

This would be good, except how would it know what you want on your SSD(s) and HDD?

Well Sony Z is actually alot lighter than apples laptops and has better specs for the same price...

and the resale value of a year old sony z is pretty high too...

Don't forget to add $300 for Applecare. Anyway you look at it, Macs are always more expensive than PCs. But, just as mac users don't buy Macbook pros based on specs alone, they are willing to pay more to get the complete Apple experience.

The Sony is considerably thicker so therefore more room to stuff things in like higher performance processors. There is only so much you can do with a thin enclosure due to space constraints, ie. less room for larger heat sinks, fans, etc.

Of course, it will be possible like they offer it now. You just have to pay more.

Actually I believe the total of a 16GB SDD, a SuperDrive and a 500GB HDD cost nearly as much as a 256GB SDD. Also it's unlikely that you can replace the ODD by a SDD and also the HDD by a SDD, as then you'd have three SDDs in that 15" notebook.

But even if I'm wrong, it's a theoretical discussion as if the rumors are correct, you won't have the option to have ONE drive only, you'll always have three drives. Even if you'd only need one medium sized SDD and nothing more.

Sounds like a regurgitation of the more recent rumors we've heard.

If Apple really does take the system-on-SSD route, they better have something in the OS to make it seamless for the user. Having to deal with two partitions will be hectic for the consumer.

Anything in that recent OS X seed suggesting better SSD support?

i'm curious to see what they'll do in terms of graphics on the 13". If everything else mentioned here is true, I may trade in my top of the line 15" with one of these babies and im sure some other folk here may do the same thing too.

...

its not listed however if they are going to three USB ports and lightpeak then I think its safe to say the 13" loses its optical drive. Especially since its an option on the 15 and 17 to lose the optical drive but not the 13 it seems to indicate the 13 just won't have one

Definitely go 15". What you are going to school for will demand it. Take my word for it.

i trust a graphic designer :) and yeah i was completely set on 15 until someone mentioned lugging it around and then i thought..well i wont be carrying it open everywhere and it will be light and everything and i will have a nice case for it

I agree. People complain but coming from C2D, what do they expect? Maybe they will have it as an option, but then I don't want to hear complaints on battery life not being 13 hours.

Most People won't use an optical drive in their life, I cannon imagine using a laptop with one.

2 years from now, dvd drives in laptops will be vintage

that explains why blu-ray and DVD movies are selling great, because they buy the disc for what? Freesbie?

To watch on televisions?

I have never watched a DVD on my computer.

here is my thought someone should call up the apple store and be like hi so im on the website and i see that the macbook pros take 3-5 does that mean that i will see it in 3-5 days or it will ship then..because that might tell us when theyre coming..

I just hope we won't get disappointed, on Thursday :F

FYI:

Current 15" MacBook Pro has an option for a Matte Screen at an additional $150.

That's only because it also includes the higher resolution screen. A better comparison would be the 17" matte upgrade option which is $50.

people do use an optical drive, maybe not most at this forum because we don't have the need. but the regular user will, even if it is for the one or 2 times its better to have sales wise (many non tech savvy people will be confused). even tho i would not use it i cant imagine a laptop with out it. many use there laptop as there main computer and there is many reasons to need an optical drive. and many do not ant to carry an optical drive with them, and some are not always near a computer they can use. last there is the macbook air which pis purposely there for light easy to carry etc, there is a clear separation and i feel it is meant to be that way.
