It all depends on what the specs turn out to be as well as what you want to get out of having this mac.

If you want to game, probably a 15 or 17 inch if they have dedicated graphics. If you want to do everything else (including photo, music, video editing) go with the basic unless the upgraded 13 comes with a SSD/higher res screen.

Most of the REAL work that I need this Mac to do for me is Photoshop and web development with little to no gaming.

I just want to be sure that this refresh isn't a step backwards from the current 15" models.

That's unpossible.

here you go

Hmm..I could be wrong but is this the first time that apple decided to put big intel logo on the side of the box?

It won't be. But don't expect great leap forwards either...

Then I would suggest for you to buy the base $1199 model unless the more premium $1399 features a SSD and better resolution. Personally I will be purchasing the base model and installing an intel 80gb SSD in it as soon as I get home. I don't need much extra space and those intel SSD's rock for speed. my current MBP boots up in less than 15 seconds completely running.

Apple Personnel Doesn't know about the refresh

Does is seem strange that an Apple Personnel in charge of over the phone ordering, doesn't even know about the refresh?

Just called to ask about something else, and when I told him about the refresh, he laughed.
He has been getting calls asking about the rumored refresh, but he "is as clueless as the rest of" us.

I really want it to be tomorrow!

Yeah lol. Getting a phone rep to spill it would be like getting the guys who posted the leaked photos to give their physical store address of the place they work at. It's not going to happen. Even if the phone reps knew of the refresh they aren't allowed per their non-disclosure agreement. If they were to let it slip they would be fired on the spot.

I think the only two things I've confirmed in the past 6 months is MBPs are due this Thursday. And these images are the real deal.

You seem to be confusing rumors from other sites from things I am personally confirming.

arn

No, I'm not confused. People have "confirmed" things in the past and been wrong. Just because you are running the site doesn't mean I can't question your knowledge. Who are your sources?

So when is the refresh exactly?
I'm in central time. Would it be exactly at 12am?

I'm a complete newbie here~ forgive the questions if they had already been addressed, I can't read back 1000+ posts for the answer. :D

Why would he need to justify his information to you? Your name isn't even pronounceable. Also, If he gives out his sources that pretty much guarantees they will not be his sources anymore due to them getting fired or them not trusting him anymore. Your request is absolutely ridiculous.

Either way is fun, but I was still hoping for a design change. I want my black Macbook Pro. Oh well :p

+1

And am I the only one that prefers plastic to aluminum? Sure, the aluminum is sexy, but the plastic seems more practical.

Apple may have decided to use the Intel logo on their packaging due to the use of the Intel HD graphics. It would make logical sense for them to do this, also due to the use of "Thunderbolt" as it is an Intel creation. The specs on this low end machine are exactly that, low-end. Perfect for any general computer user who browses the web, does e-mailing and listens to music or plays around with photos. If you want something that is going to increase your enjoyment or functionality out of the laptop, you cough up the $$$.

Number one- my "name" is a screen name, which often uses acronyms.

Number two- Asking for sources is an "absurd request"? Not on my planet. If you don't ask people for their sources, then how in the world can you be sure his source is legitimate? Perhaps you operate that way through blind trust, but I don't. If someone was a reporter and presented an important story in the real world saying "confirmed by me... from an unknown source" he would be laughed at and not taken seriously. If you don't like that I asked, you didn't need to interject. If he wants to answer me, he can PM me, if not that's his choice and it is what it is.

Well in the real world. There's things like witness protection programs, confidentiality agreements etc etc. Giving out a source would guarantee that source is removed from selling apple products ever again. Let me ask you this. If you were in his position and had access to useful information, would you ruin it all just to prove a point.

Images are definitely legit. You can even see that the logo they've made for Thunderbolt matches the new iTunes and App store icons with the blue circle.

Right… another dog-ugly logo reminiscent of Windows Vista. Seriously, I never thought I'd see the day when Microsoft could lay claim to more elegant graphic design than Apple, but I finally checked out Windows Phone 7 today. Not sure how practical the UI is, but damn it looks good. In contrast, Apple keeps coming out with these awful submarine-window logos. Whoever's churning these out at Apple, I just hope he's being kept well away from the Lion UI design team.

The names are getting worse too. 'Firewire' was a cool name for high-speed I/O. 'Thunderbolt'… not so cool. :(
