HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

we're technically hours away from "thursday" do you think the websites will be updated at midnight
or throughout the day, if the release is actually tomorrow...

+1

And am I the only one that prefers plastic to aluminum? Sure, the aluminum is sexy, but the plastic seems more practical.

No, Aluminium is:

- More recyclable
- More scratch resistant
- Dissipate heat better
- More durable
- Does not lose colour over time

My friend dropped her white MB before, and boy it does not look pretty after that...

Dropping Aluminium MB might bent the body too, but it will be much more rigid than plastic. During normal use I don't think the colour will change after 5 years of use. Whereas the plastic one will be dirty after a few months.

Well in the real world. There's things like witness protection programs, confidentiality agreements etc etc. Giving out a source would guarantee that source is removed from selling apple products ever again. Let me ask you this. If you were in his position and had access to useful information, would you ruin it all just to prove a point.

But, just some insight- if he is speaking directly to a reseller who is doing things against the law (which opening these Macbooks before their release date is), Apple could pursue legal action against him for not reporting their activity. Just saying.

I'm pretty sure that earlier people said the Apple website will most likely be updated at 10am Cupertino time. Which I believe translates to Central time. I personally am happy about this because if there really is an update tomorrow, those of us who have read up on it will be the only ones who know about it so there won't be a hundred people waiting in line at best buy at 8am.

Intel graphics lol

"It's almost as good as the GeForce 320M"

Which is two years old now.

$999 HP Envy 14 at Fry's gives you 6 hours of real world battery life, Core i5 2.66GHz (4 threads), "Sandy Bridge", ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 1GB (faster than the GeForce 330M in the MacBook Pros as of this typing), 4GB of RAM, 750GB HDD, eSATA (you know, ports that current devices have been using for a couple of years now), and the usual junk that Apple fans consider "premium" like a glass display and aluminum casing. Also has other things like multi-card reader, HDMI, better audio output than Macs, etc.

I'll give you one.

Scratch resistant? Depends on the plastic used. I've only ever seen Apple's plastic devices have scratching issues.

If aluminum dissipates heat better, then why do Macs have higher operating temperatures than PCs? It's not unusual to see a Core 2 Duo Mac's CPU get up to 80c under full load while the same CPU in a notebook PC won't even reach 60c under load.

More durable? Again, depends on the plastic used. I've seen lots of dented, bent, and warped Macs, but rarely do I see actual broken or cracked plastic PCs.

Color issue is also dependent on plastic used. Only Apple uses low quality plastic that is prone to scratching, cracking, and discoloration.

Does is seem strange that an Apple Personnel in charge of over the phone ordering, doesn't even know about the refresh?

Just called to ask about something else, and when I told him about the refresh, he laughed.
He has been getting calls asking about the rumored refresh, but he "is as clueless as the rest of" us.

I really want it to be tomorrow!

If we can believe the former Apple employee, they really are as clueless as the rest of us regarding new products.

Cupertino is in California. Which is PST.

Didnt you read the article from last week, stating how strict apple with there employees and rumors and gossip of future products.

it said they can be late 15 times, but if they talked about conjecture of future products with customers they'd get fired.

I GUARANTEE you there won't be lines for MacBook Pros. I can't remember the last time a computer garnered lines at stores. It's just not that much of a must-have. In any event the economy is starting to cool stupid people off a little bit, evident by Verizon's modest launch of the iPhone, readily available. Video games are the only thing left that really gets massive lines, and even then it's not nearly as severe as it was in years past - Final Fantasy VII, Halo 2, etc.

Especially if Apple thinks it's going to be pushing that $2500 model out the door.

I wonder what the penalty is for opening unreleased products a day before and posting images online/ supplying sites with information and images.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-gb) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Last April the website updated around 2am. I went to the mall first thing next day and bought it home. Maybe we will see something tonight guys!

The leakers today have said they are with resellers, not Apple stores. So they're opening the pallets a day in advance to setup the displays. You can't open your store in the morning expecting to sell laptops without the displays setup the night before.

I can see your points.
I've always been on the fence about the scratch resistance of aluminum, though.

The aluminum seems more durable overall but 50/50 when it comes to dropping (particularly with the screen's aluminum surround).

Thank you for your comments.

I can't help but feel a little deflated at the lack of a redesign, because that means the new redesign is coming next year and I won't be getting one (need an MBP now and don't have the cash to splurge on each yearly model). Would have liked some more time being the cool kid on the block - like those who bought the first aluminium unibodies in 2008. Yes, I am this vain. Unashamedly so. :)

The specs are rather unsurprising - I can't believe people actually expected memory sticks made of carbon nanotubes and dragons' blood or whatever. This is the low-end model and it's a very respectable improvement on the old release. We can only hope that the higher-end models will introduce some cooler stuff (as is rather likely). Bah, fifteen hours still to go. And then I'll have to wait until the weekend to get the money on my account actually get one. :(

Finally, this image claiming to show a ThunderBolt port which looks a lot like a DisplayPort. We're not sure the original source of this image:

Normally mid-morning, 10am PST(ish).

usually it is in the early morning 6AM or 7AM Pacific, Usually i see updates when i woke up.

only when there is an Apple Event then store goes at the same time 10am Pacific and then returns until the event is over.

Software releases are different, 10AM sometimes 2pm and sometimes different times ...

i wish there is some upgrades to White macbook and some price reduction (assuming it does not have SSD).

I'm pretty sure they are instructed to set them up in the morning unless absolutely necessary- but, this isn't even the point. What is the penalty for an Apple Reseller leaking images and information around the web for an unreleased product. I am serious- does anyone know? It seems to happen pretty often yet we don't really hear of any punishment or even of people getting caught for it. I know we like our leaks here at MacRumors, but it's obviously not something Apple would be happy about.

The purported threat is revocation of their reseller license. But in reality it would be pretty damn near impossible to track which reseller's employee took a grainy cellphone image if they decided they wanted to be anonymous when sending it to a rumourmill.

Is it safe to say that the dimensions of the new models will be the same? I'm looking to pick up a Speck seethru satin to go along with with whatever winds up being the $1199 model and wouldn't want to have to wait for new cases to come out.

Try to tell them that here and they will hang you for it. (figuratively speaking of course) :p

Number two- Asking for sources is an "absurd request"?

Yes, absolutely. Reporters use confidential sources all the time. And as others have said, they'd no longer be sources if he revealed them.

That said, you judge a rumors site based on its record of reporting reasonable rumors. If you don't think this site has lived up to that standard, why are you here?

I'm not against Wintel computers. ThinkPad's are some nice laptops.
However, I would feel guilty selling anyone an HP and always swallow my concerns when a friend beams at their new HP laptop.

As for overall durability, I've got a decent stack of Dell Latitude D series laptops that would speak against the rarely "broken, cracked, or discolored" plastic. Yes, they are 4 to 6 years old and boy do they look it. Every one of them has at least one of the "broken, cracked, or discolored" plastics. I don't know that I'd expect they shouldn't after 4 years plus, I'm just saying that I don't think it's rare.

Even so, if Apple used a plastic akin to ThinkPads, I'd prefer it to aluminum.
