People wait because they want the most bang for their buck. I agree it can be silly to wait 6 months to get something newer that will be usable 6 more months, when you could have had the other 6 months to begin with, but is how people are sometimes.
I last bought new machines back in 2002 and 2003; PowerMac G4 Quicksilver and 17" Power book, respectively. Last summer the Quicksilver was dying but I wanted to wait one more cycle before buying the top tier Mac Pro, so I found a decent Mirror Door G4 and monitor for $400 -- won it on eBay -- it's doing fine while I wait for the big guns to come. I also can't wait for the next MBP, but will... top tier iPad coming in of April so I'll be happy while I wait! :D

can we please get some verification of this rumor? like some sources about the constrained supplies, screenshot of email, etc.

Please update MBA

Every Monday of mine has been destoryed since last Christmas. :(
come on apple!!!

Just when I want to buy a new laptop after 3 years with a Mac Mini  I'm willing to wait longer if they're working on a MacBook with full multi-touch support like this, though.

I remember that statement myself, it leaves a lot of room for speculation.

Actually, Steve Jobs was quoted in a stockholders meeting as saying that Apple would be taking the MBP and Mac Pro "to the next level" this year.
The next level could simply mean going to the Arradale platform. Or it could mean something more. More being just about anything. What is possible techology wise is pretty open these days.
Pretty rare for Steve to use this kind of language when talking about the future specific hardware products, so it does invite some speculation.

Actually I think the statement is carefully crafted to fan that speculation.

Steve can mean just about anything with that statement. It is however the perfect time for Apple to take a bigger step and offer up functionality not found on competeing machines. Like it or not Arrandale isn't all that great of a bump, but the right combination of components could be assembled into something impressive.

Oh and hopefully they ditch the opitcal drive on the 13 & 15 inch models.

Don't know if this means anything, but I didn't see any manuals for the MBPs just now. All of the other Macs have manuals. Someone can check and verify to see if they have better luck.

I see MB, MBA, iMac, and Mac Pro manuals but no MBP.

There's a real possibility for an MBP update today, maybe?

Hmmm, I see all the manuals for the MBP line from Mid 2009 right now. Maybe you caught them during an update behind the scenes though :)

I checked again and got the same result. At this page, I can click on any of the other Macs and get a list...

http://support.apple.com/manuals/#macbookpro

But on this MBP page it says, "No results found. Please try another search."

Also, the MBP is highlighted. Like I said before probably means nothing. Just figured if it was happening to more than me it could really be update day finally. But probably just my Mac then...

Also says the same thing from the FireFox browser (was using Safari originally)...

No results found. Please try another search

Your mac is fine. Same here, except portable compters in general doesnt show up.

No there was a rumour where Apple NZ/AU ads were inconsitent with the store pricings.
Actually, the first New Zealand/April reference came long before that: Feb 26, 2010, 08:48 PM --- and most interesting (now) is that website comes up 404. It was working the last time i looked (maybe 2 weeks ago). Use the imageshack URL to see what used to be there.

Hmm, why is it gone? Did it take this long for <tosh> to get "Steved"?
Or did it just go down tonight to prepare for tomorrow? [we can dream]

Hopefully means new Mac notebooks tomorrow as they're working on updating starting with support manuals and plan to close the store later.

At this point, most of us have waited many months... many terrible Tuesdays. Many people would be ecstatic for an update today.

But probably someone at Apple screwing with us...

I will check back tomorrow.

Tosh New Zealand now states iX and is offering iPads already.

I dont think this is the most credible site IMO.

I'm gonna check at midnight cuz I need to finish 2 assignments off.

Exactly, what is the rush...

I would have thought that with the impending iPad release, the updates would be on the same day... The 3rd...

Surely this would be the only sane thing to do? Why would Apple release updates a few days before or after the iPad? That would be crazy...

Its not as if they are brand new MacBook Pros, just minor updates...

It still on, no acces to manuels from apple.com

But there is acces from the danish site

Relax guys, Apple is doing a lot of work to support HDMI and bluray in the upcoming lineup. Also Phil needs to find a way to spin why it is a good thing that the systems need HDMI in place of the display port to play bluray.

You do realize that BluRay is just a drive change away and the archetecture for HDMI is included in the GPUs.

I would hardly call the core iX series a "minor update"...

and yes, they are brand new MacBook Pros? Why would they not be?

Yes, for a Mac Pro one can buy a bare Blu-Ray drive and install in 15 minutes. The Blu-Ray discs can be played with VLC media player. I suppose for a MBP you could use it as an external drive.

I don't think replies from sjobs can be that rare, I've had one in the past which was surprisingly detailed. but I have to admit when I read this story, I took 'not to worry' to mean 'bovvered?'... as in who cares about your disappointment? hope I'm wrong though.
