Just shut up!

So - my brother, whom I've told to wait, is still waiting.

I'm beginning to look like a fool.

What should I tell him? He wants a MacBook Pro!! But I don't want him coming to me moaning that he's spent a fortune on a computer that, a few days later, is old technology.

What do I do?

He is your bother not some sort of business client. Let him fend for himself.

Further if your brother doesn't understand why one should wait then you are wasting your time both noW and in the future. I'm not sure why being related to someone means you have to put up with crap.

From the NAB website:
"More than 85,000 audio, video and film content professionals"

Seems like if a new macbook was released it might be mentioned there

NAB is just as irrelevant to MBPs as CTIA Wireless, which is going on this week. Apple doesn't like attending trade shows other than their own WWDC. If Apple planned on showing up at NAB, I'm sure they would've attended MacWorld this year.

What was your email?

I don't want to drag this on to another debate, just one point.
If I own a movie, I don't want to be limited to watching it on my TV, I'd like to watch them on my computer. Disregarding the fact that DVDs have a resolution of 848x480 and Blu ray has 1920x1080, which is very noticeable on that screen when you are close to it, and that a blu ray drive wouldn't weigh more than a DVD drive or consume any more power, what is wrong with options? If you truly loathe BR, why do you care if others have the choice or not?

I bet we wake up to new MBPs in the morn.

aw man, now I can't fall asleep. I feel like I did when I was seven and waiting for santa.. :-/

Apple definitely won't attend NAB. I think what people were saying is that it might be a good idea to release a new MBP before a huge tradeshow with ""More than 85,000 audio, video and film content professionals"

I'm saying April 13 because it is a Tuesday just after the iPad announcement. This gives the iPad the limelight then just as the first pulse of excitement starts to fade Apple hits us with the MBP upgrades and they'll be really hot and get everyone excited all over again.

That's what I have been saying for weeks now and finally people are starting to agree with me...

Stop the presses...in world news, MR forum poster 'Paperboy2010' has come to the decision to purchase a Sony laptop rather than waiting for a MBP update with which to replace his Dell. The population at large lets out a collective "who gives a crap?", and goes back to what they were doing.

Film at 11.

Hahaha!!!! Great post.

I'm not even up for a new laptop till about another year, but my older bro is ready to replace his original MB CD so I'll get the chance to check out one of the models when Apple updates them.

There's continued concern that the iPad may be the end of the Mac even though that's not possible given that the Mac is what "creates" both the Applications and the content "consumed" by the iPod.

The timing of the iPad followed by the introduction of new "Pro" machines seems a likely association that can be used to reduce the concerns of the demise of the Mac following the rise of the iPad.

So why are you bothering the man?

just sent mr. jobs an email. worth a shot.

I really hope you had a good reason to waste the mans bandwidth. People loading up on the guy with frivolous communications can ruin it for people with real issues.

To everyone reading, the next MBP update is not a big issue. The current model is perfectly good if you need one. If you don't need one, then what is the problem. If the problem is no life then get one.

Still waiting on an affordable gaming iMac or Mac Pro.

Though if I asked SJ about that instead of "not to worry" he would probably say "haven't seen a flying pig yet".

A $799 24" iMac when pigs fly for sure.

Cool beans.

I think that the current MBPs are selling well, and have an outrageous profit-margin. So every day they squeeze out of those old units is a good day indeed. I'm not saying they're not worth the money, what I am saying is that if the margin was good upon release, those margins are now spectacular.

I tried to wait, but I grew impatient. I'm trying out a 14" Sony VAIO CW Jet Black with bluray. Core i5, 4GB, 500GB and Nvidia 330M 512mb, 1600 x 900 resolution (really a big plus for me). All this for less than a white MacBook. I used to have a 13" MacBook Pro so I'll know exactly how it compares. The VAIO won't arrive until thursday though, so I just don't know right now if I made a good choice.

The main appeal of MBP, I think, is the aluminum unibody lasts like nothing else, it's so solid, it's just crazy, the glass is also nice and the trackpad is superior to anything else. It's really like a beautiful appliance. Those things will not change. But since the overall machine will last so long (the unibody is made to last, there's no doubt in my mind about that) it would be ideal to get it with the latest innards already inside.

Better luck to you on your waiting. I guess I kind of still have about two weeks when I can return the VAIO. I'll return it regardless if I don't love the thing. It's hard to blame Apple for not refreshing their lineup more frequently. They really aren't getting a whole lot of competition from the major PC manufacturers at all. Most people want a Mac, that's the word on the street and the pathetic offerings on the PC side aren't changing that one bit... Core i5 etc. most people just don't care about that stuff.

You get two trouble free years out of a harddisk and that is an issue?

My iMac's hard drive died two months ago, the computer being less than two years old and no longer under warranty. Really upset, I was about to abandon the Mac. Went on the girlfriend's XP box and downloaded Ubuntu live so I could browse for PC parts from my dead iMac, only to find out Windows doesn't even know what to do with ISO images! So I opted to replace the disk myself, but still disappointed it died so fast. Popped the OS install disk in, clicked to restore from Time Machine backup and went to bed. Woke up to my computer exactly as it was the last time I used it! This is when I realized staying on the platform was the best option. I hate aluminum macs (totally drooling over the unibody white MacBook, but the display's way too small) and I'm very unimpressed with component quality after this adventure. But the software that comes with the machines is hard to leave behind -- for me that's the Unix backend, Time Machine and iLife.

To make a long story short: not to worry ;)

I posted the whole message above because I think you need to re-read your posting again. Harddrives fail and fail often, it is no more a reflection upon Apple than a drive failure on a HP or some mainframe. It is one of the reasons Apple has supplied you with an easy to use backup system.

It just boggles my mind to see somebody consider a change based on what is an industry wide issue. Hard drives simply are not perfect, given three drives coming off the assembly line right after the other, run times will vary widely.

lol, sad, but I just bought it because I couldn't resist.
I have converted 8 friends to Mac, and a teacher.
9 in total.

havn't read the whole thread but it seems to me like a filter system.

Steve's original message was probably

"Not to worry the update is happening on the XX-XX-XXXX"

But his Non-Disclousure email filter knocked off everything that was releasing confidential apple information.

SO its clear we will see the update next time my calender displays all X's

:D

oh god, not another "update is imminent" post. these have been going around for months now so the update is anything but imminent.

i suspect a couple more "best buy's supplies low" type of news before we actually get a MBP update.

Is there something that proves this information is authentic ? I mean there is not even a screenshot of the email (which would anyway be easy to fake).
