Sure enough rvictoria, the entry level 13" and top level 15" mbp's are on backorder. Screencaps below. Good signs?

Hrm, I just checked the BB website and there are quite a few other variations of the MBP available right now. Not sure if only these two models being out of stock is anything to w00t over.

Well, let's put it this way...If Steve was going to tell you that a refresh will be available for MBP this June, who will buy the left over of the current MBP? Everyone will be holding out to get the new intel CPU.

And it's not like Apple will do a big SALE on old inventories of laptops like PCs do.

I was just checking prices (got mine at MacMall for $1387) and I noticed Best Buy still has new ones for sale at $1499 +tax here in Vegas (mine is a MBP 13 2.53)

Ive been waiting for a quad core MBP since Sept last year. Now Im going to go all out and get a MP. Like everyone else, I too am sick of waiting! My mirror door G4 is gone and I have the money waiting to get the anticipated hexacore! (hopefully a dual hexacore) Everyday I get on macrumors and check for any 'inside information' or 'hot tip', (which I really think is a load of BS, but I want to believe it anyway!) Here's what I think of the release dates.

There seems to be two general opinions on when Apple are going to release the new lines of Macs. The first is, it could be any coming Tuesday now, possibly even when the iPad is released. And the other guess is that it'll be after the iPad.

My money is on after the iPad, sometime in May, but if Apple are going to wait until May, then why not just release it at WWDC in June?

This is just my opinion, I dont have a marketing degree, and Im relatively new to Mac, but why would Apple release new Macs around the same time as the iPad? Isn't it best to keep the focus on the iPad and once everyone calms down, then release the new macs. If the ipad and new macs were released close to each other, I could imagine a lot of people thinking, '...well, at first, the ipad didnt look all the interesting, and I do need a new computer, but now that Ive had a go, this things pretty cool...' People will be distracted. Im not saying the ipad will stop people from buying much needed macs, but I think it's important that the focus is on the ipad. The ipad is a new product line, and like the ipod, it could be, and probably will be, a huge milestone for Apple. So I dont see any benefit for Apple to release multiple products at the same time, and on the contrary, they probably think it could have the opposite effect, and be possibly detrimental it's 'wow' factor as it enters the market.

Some people are saying that it could be mid April for the new macs, after the ipad is released. Makes sense. But for the rest of the world, the ipad comes out late April, and if you go with the idea of not stealing the thunder from the ipad, then we'd have to wait a little bit more into May for the new Macs, right? But, we've waited until May, what's another month? WWDC is around the corner, why not release the new macs then?

IPad in April, everyone gets curious and excited, the initial surge of buyers settles down, and then a month or two later, get everyone excited again with hexacore mac pros and quad core macbook pros. Sounds logical to me. What do you think?

And the last point, yes, they're overdue for a refresh - overdue, if you're measuring off the average 'days since refresh'. But it hasnt been longer than the time it took to refresh the current line of MPs, and there have been times where we've waited similar periods to now for the MBPs.

Having said this, I hope the mac store goes down next week and there's a new mac pro in the morning waiting for me : )

And it's not like Apple will do a big SALE on old inventories of laptops like PCs do.

Actually - it's exactly like Apple to do that.

But instead of calling it a "sale" - without fanfare there suddenly are lots of deals available in the refurb store on the older models. Happens just about every update.

should i open my replacement unit?

Apple has just CRUed me a brand new 2.66GHZ MBP in replacement of my january 2008 MBP.....

I do also have a 13" mbp unibody that i purchased in november...

so here's my question..

what do you guys think?
If I do not open the new 15" MBP incase a new refreshed model does pop up?

I have a feeling that Apple may wait til september, after they do the back to school ipod touch special. (or maybe ipad, this year) just like they did this past year (i think?)

if this new MBP 15" is unopened, wouldn't I be able to go into a store and exchange it for the newest model??

You didn't buy it. It's a replacement. No way they'll let you swap it out.

Just an update about some Refurb-Sections:

- 55 items in the US (compared to 22 yesterday)
- 29 items in the UK (compared to 19 yesterday)
- 30 items in Germany (compared to 23 yesterday)
- 12 items in Italy (compared to 14 yesterday)
- 30 items in France (compared to 23 yesterday)
- 16 items in Spain (compared to 16 yesterday)

It looks to me like they're clearing out old stocks!?

So: more hope for next Tuesday OR Saturday 3rd... :D

What do you think???

Well it seems like a very good indicator to me. The Swiss refurbish store is usually empty (2-3 machines top). It actually (since tuesday or so) offers 20 Macs !!!

My guess is something will really happen in a short future which forces me to pay my credit card bill shortly.

Do you remember if the something similar happened when the current MBP were released?

Sorry, but I'm 'desperately' waiting for my first MBP to materialize and I'm infected with this MAC-Hype only for some months now :D

So no knowledge about Mac-History on my side... But perhaps some 'Pros' can give us more info!?

I'm waiting for my first to, there was a post stating that this is common of apple though, so It's possible

Have had Mac's since the late '80s... (feeling old!) Distilling all the thousands of posts here ... I think the MBPs will be out very soon - Apple is not mean or stupid, as some imply. They know that they need to keep up in bringing new product out. On the other hand, they want to make the product as functional as possible, and do not want to dilute marketing of other products. So they have had to overcome some issues with graphics processors, and will now await the release of the iPad.

Sooo.. my guess is not Mar 30 as iPad comes out that Sat. After that, it could be any Tue.

Was the name of the person who received the Jobs email DEVIR KAHAN? because he was featured in the New York Times "QUOTATION OF THE DAY" today saying:
"Oh my God, I am never cleaning my in-box again."
after receiving an e-mail message from Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive.

Start of April

Anyone think that they are waiting for the beginning of the financial year? This would make sense, no matter how the iPad sales went it would mean that their figures would stay strong, they dont want their profits to start slipping (not substansially anyway after christmas).

Any thoughts on an early April release?

So all of you who are getting teary eyed about how 'old' your MBP is...

I'm rockin my Dual 2ghz G5.

It's still friggin fast. Yes, the current/new MBP is a gazillion times faster.

So shhhh... even if you have to wait till June.

(no, i could care less about games, thank you)

iBook G4 with 933MHz processor. And I'm waiting till the release, whenever that may be.
No need to rush, mine still works and I can wait.

tomorrow is another nvidia announcement. might be about optimus, forgot. with all the small details they leaked out lately i can't keep track anymore.

Monday HP starts shipping servers and probably workstations with the new Xeon CPU.

so tuesday is a good candidate for a refresh

8GB RAM Max?

Guys,

Just wondering..

The recent benchmark of the Macbook pro i7 was with the intel i7 620m. It can only deal with 8 GB Ram maximum. Wouldn't it make sense that the basic models will ship with just 4 GB like it is with the current machines?
