1) Have you ever tried to read text or surf the web on a 17" MBP comfortably? The high resolution makes it very difficult. If Apple increases the resolution, they'll have to come up with a way to make reading, menus, and other detailed tasks a plausible concept.
.

Couldn' t agree more. I have the 17" ( bought last June :) ) and I will switch to the 15" if they keep the resolution.

if my friend ask, "Should i buy macbook pro now?, but i want new technology!"
what the best answer for this?

not to worry :p

or

bought an iMac i7 :D

?

Last week, I checked the MBP refurb availability on the Apple Store site and there were about 5 models available. Now there are 22. Looks like most if not all models. Another pointer to an imminent announcement.

Nice... Nice... ;)
As I don't know if you 'only' checked the US store, I did the same for some stores in the EU... Same thing here:

- 19 items in the UK
- 23 items in Germany
- 14 items in Italy
- 23 items in France
- 16 items in Spain

Pretty much, compared to the normal amount of items...
And most of them are MB, MBP and Mac Pros for which an update is 'near'...

I hope that is a sing for nex Tuesday OR Saturday 3rd...

WHY CAN'T THEY JUST GO BACK TO THE SILVER KEYBOARD? I hate the black keyboard. The Silver keyboard looked looked so much better. It's better when the keyboard color matched the body color. If they were to anodize the aluminum on the MBP's to black, then I'd be all for a black keyboard.

This.

I mean, MBPs usually call for a keynote,

They do?

and isn't there a keynote scheduled for April 3rd?

No?

just ordered refurb iMac 2.93 C2D

yeah its not an i7, but i cannot wait any longer, and my plan is to sell this machine on ebay once the new mbp &/or mac pro comes out. i got it 43% off. i think it's a good deal for now. i'm sad i have to waste time installing stuff on a machine i will (hopefully) not use for long. due to arrive in the post tomorrow :)

43% ? wow! good deal. in the UK the refurb discount is normally around 13%, which is less than the higher education discount. and after buying a refurb G5 a few years back and having to return it numerous times for processor problems, I haven't gone that route since.

My university's Apple store just posted additional discounts (beyond edu) on MBPs. Looks like they're trying to clear out inventory. Not to worry.

My plan, if you can call it that. Buy cheap laptop now.... buy ipad when it comes out..... buy rev B updated Macbooks in a few months time.

It's a good plan.... I just really want the next Mac I buy to be the last for a good, good while. I've messed around before and "compromised", now I'm ready to go all out and spec up a dream machine - but I can't do that with 2009's tech at 2008's price :(

all they have to do is put a better video card in it and i'll purchase straight away, i dont care about the iX series... C2D is fine, just need a better video card

The 17" 2.8GHz MBP is out of stock at CDW and Amazon. In fact, Amazon has removed it entirely from their own store; they only have their featured merchants (J&R, etc).

MacMall still has it, but they are a distributor.

This and the other similar reports would seem encouraging. I would assume that deletion - or OOS status - of the higher-end models would suggest that these key retailers have been put on notice that an even higher performance substitute for that SKU is imminent and orders will not be taken/filled with the current 2.8's to avoid pointless processing & shipping expense of almost immediate stock returns - and because Apple likely is all but out of stock itself (save for refurbs and "spares" for wtty) having stopped manufacturing and shifted to building the new models & thus couldn't fulfill orders of these higher end SKUs even if it wanted to.

Obviously we've all been grasping at any possible positive news / reason for hope the wait will end soon, but all these signs DO seem to suggest a pretty invidious position - and significant lost sales opptys for Apple's KEY retailers ( and Apple) if Apple doesn't do something/start shipping replacements at least for these high end SKUs in pretty short order. (i.e., within a couple of weeks)

As more data like this comes in, the more realistically optimistic things look (at least to me) for an intro timed to coincide with the tsunami of Apple Store iPad customers (and we Apple faithful curiosity seekers) that will turn up on April 3rd. media will certainly cover this event, so even more reason to piggy-back and build on the renewed free iPad BUZZ and take advantage of & resonate with it. Hard to imagine Apple ever letting a powerful, FREE viral marketing & retail opportunity go un-leveraged. If there's going be "Apple fever" , why not turn it into pandemic by sim-shipping both products.
Effect would not be the same if the MBP's appeared a week, or or two - much less a month after, i'd say.
So... seems compelling to me.

thoughts?

Actually I just looked and Amazon does still has the 17" 2.5GHz MBP available shipped from and sold by Amazon as you can see in the screencap below. :(

My 15" MBP (late 2007 model that I got Feb. 2008) died on my a couple weeks ago. I'm stuck using an old Dell. I'm ready to buy a new 15" but waiting on the upgrades too.

+1, especially with Steam OSX next month :)

Maybe that's their plan actually. Perhaps Apple is holding back the updates to it's pro line for this very reason. Coinciding the release of their new machines with Steam would give them the best opportunity to promote gaming on the Mac platform in a serious manner.

mayb cause he is a billionaire and without any doubts he is using the new mbp all maxed out...
he s not worrying for sure...

13 and 15 MBP Backordered at Bestbuy.com

Hi,
I've been following the MBP updates for over 4 months now and I am ready to convert to MAC. I've just noticed that Best Buy is showing the 13 and 15 inch models as backordered.

That is for an older model, not the current 2.8 model. But I checked again, and I do see the 2.8 available again. Rats.

However CDW does not have any configuration of 17" in stock.

Either they know something, or they are guessing like we are, and have refused to resupply until the new models are announced?

LOL let's go with "they know something". ;)

Non-native resolutions on LCDs still look crappy. Hopefully 10.7 will bring true independence.
