I am fine waiting, getting my hitachi 500gb drive in the 13" macbook and wife's macbook brings so much back into this "obsolete" first gen unibody computer.

I will buy a new 15" mbp this autumn with my last student loan check for grad school and get the free ipod and put it aside for a Christmas gift to somebody heh.

I wondering what you all will do when the update finally comes as you will no longer have something to post about :)
My Dell's HHD just kicked the bucket, so I'm planning to convert. However, I'm torn. I'm curiously waiting for an update, but enjoying reading the posts. At the moment I don't know which I want more as you guys are very entertaining!

Apple major retailers in Australia were told about 2 weeks ago that all current Macbook Pro's will be on constraint and that they will arrive back in stock in mid April.....this type of constraint has not happened before as its just too long of a period for macbooks not to be available......i would highly expect new Macbook Pros to arrive Mid April

Also in the last month Apple was running a promotion in Australia where if a student buys a Mac laptop and a Ipod touch they will receive a cash rebate to cover the ipod basically giving every student who buys a mac laptop a free ipod......i believe this was done to clear the channel of current stock to make way for the new.

Why should anyone wait?

People wait because they want the most bang for their buck. I agree it can be silly to wait 6 months to get something newer that will be usable 6 more months, when you could have had the other 6 months to begin with, but is how people are sometimes.

I don't understand how people are applying this logic to corporate purchasing strategies.

Agreed, the question is, "Why is Apple so late with updating their laptop line compared to the competition?"

Apple is probably late because they can't get enough Core i5 and Core i7 delivered from Intel. Supplies from Intel have been reported to be strained due to large pre-orders from the big PC manufacturers, such as Acer.

Apple may no longer be first in line as an Intel customer, unfortunately, so they can't do anything but wait.

I bought a Dell Mini 10v to make into a hackintosh today, meaning tomorrow we're sure to see an i7 MacBook Air with a 10 hour battery life at $500. Never fails

Why should anyone wait?

I say any new user or switcher has no idea what a Mac even is or does, so the 10% performance difference of a revision is insignificant. Any person new to Mac should get whatever they can see and touch right that second, get the warranty, despite the cost, and seriously consider the classes if they are within a 20 minute drive of a store.

first of all, it is a little like the "fish out of water experience" when you first bring your new mac home after using a windows platform for so long and start playing around on it, but it really doesnt take that long to get used to because there are so many less steps you have to take to get things done on a mac than on a pc, so many things are just a lot easier. anything you really need to know up front can be found online. why would you need to attend classes on how to use a mac? it's pretty intuitive.

now about this "response" ... is this really the kind of crap macrumors wants to be known for? its threads like these that waste everyone's time.

Mid April sounds right. With the big iPad launch less than two weeks away I don't think Apple will steal their own thunder by releasing new MacBook Pros and Mac Pros this side of the iPad launch. Mid April sounds plausible.
It will give the iPad time to bask in the press spotlight for a couple weeks.

I'm interpreting this as not to worry, we're not going to be in that business much longer, get an iPad instead, and it scares me :(.

I agree. I fear Apple will drop the Mac line altogether in favor of mobile devices. Scares the **** out of me.

You've got to do better than that!

If anything the iPad should strengthen the Mac market. After all iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad software development can only be done on a Mac if it is to be sold on the App store.

So someone just asked this a second ago... but what happens for those people who bought current MBPs just a few days ago if they release a new one a couple of days later?

I've heard mulitiple things...14 days with 10% restocking fee... 30 days with no restocking fee (because it's a new product release or something?)

Somebody tell me the real deal. Thanks

What a whiney email. The MacBook Pro had an awesome update last time around... Geez, what a bitch.

I have a reasonable belief that new notebooks will be announced in the morning. I call it. We'll see how accurate my source really is...

Major retailers typically would get it a bit later than the apple online store and the actual apple stores, correct? That'd mean a week or two sooner than mid-april, I would guess.

Oh Please  Apple's market share got up to 10% last year and Windows is at it's lowest in many years. If we all know Jobs the way we think we do, he's going to continue that fight, no question about it.

That would never happen, if anything, apple will gain a larger percentage of computer users, compare Mac OSX vs Windows 7......Mac OSX...is more secure and more user friendly. If anything Mac with the help of its mobile products, will convert PC users, i.e look at the growth of the iPhone.

so i bought a new macbook pro today. If a new one comes out tomorrow, is it possible to exchange it? I'm happy either way, just general curiosity.

wow.. people these days.

an update wasn't promised. it's all speculation and people are emailing the poor guy telling him they've lost faith when nothing was put in WRITING by apple themselves?

get a life... seriously

Aw, the poor billionaire's getting emails from people asking about updates to an overpriced, outdated piece of hardware.

Life is so hard.
