so i bought a new macbook pro today. If a new one comes out tomorrow, is it possible to exchange it? I'm happy either way, just general curiosity.

Search for "returns policy" at apple.com.

Standard is 14 days, with a 10% extra "restocking" fee if the box has been opened.

Some posters say it's 30 days if a product is updated, but I haven't seen that policy in print.

Apple major retailers in Australia were told about 2 weeks ago that all current Macbook Pro's will be on constraint and that they will arrive back in stock in mid April.....this type of constraint has not happened before as its just too long of a period for macbooks not to be available......i would highly expect new Macbook Pros to arrive Mid April

Also in the last month Apple was running a promotion in Australia where if a student buys a Mac laptop and a Ipod touch they will receive a cash rebate to cover the ipod basically giving every student who buys a mac laptop a free ipod......i believe this was done to clear the channel of current stock to make way for the new.

yeah, werent there rumour about newzealand apple store had some leak, saying the New Macbbook Pro - Newly released in April etc

here's a little song steve wrote, and i'd like to sing it note for note - don't worry, be happy.

I can confirm the above Aussie deal is NOT to clear stock. Apple Australia have this deal every year for education buyers from January to the end of March. I've taken it up three years in a row.

I'm just hoping they update before March 31 when the deal runs out (as does the fringe benefits tax year).

Do you really expect a CEO of a company to give away future product information and release dates. Do you know what that would do to stores with existing stock? Stock prices, setting and example to other employees, and leaking information.
You were lucky to get even a slight optimistic hint from "do not worry"

The problem is that while we worry, and we understand their will eventually be an update. The lack of information is really lame.

I'm saying April 13 because it is a Tuesday just after the iPad announcement. This gives the iPad the limelight then just as the first pulse of excitement starts to fade Apple hits us with the MBP upgrades and they'll be really hot and get everyone excited all over again.

I agree. I think that's the most likely time as well (under the assumption that we don't have to wait till June).

"Don't Worry" bull is just motivation so people keep waiting and not go the PC route. I know my money won't make a difference to Apple financially, but I will not fill in to this bureaucracy. Apple has been lately ripping off its customers indirectly by promoting outdated products that are falsely advertised as "cutting edge," thus misleading the average buyer to overspend. I understand it's people's choice to spend and give in, yet I think its unfair some of these buyers are uninformed.

My point is as buyers, ya'll should make educated choices, if waiting to chase the stream is your way, so be it... if you need a computer now, buy else where and get a better deal.

Major retailers typically would get it a bit later than the apple online store and the actual apple stores, correct? That'd mean a week or two sooner than mid-april, I would guess.

Depends on what the stock levels are like for the new models, major retailers can get them as quick as a day or two after the announcement which has happen in the past, however they wont receive major stock amounts usually just enough to put them on display and maybe 1 or 2 backup units to sell..... Apple shops will get the new pretty much straight away. I would not expect much stock available at launch at it is always in high demand.

MBP by May with Blu-Ray Maybe?

I hope the MBP comes out by May so that I can have it before RailsConf. I don't want to take my three year MBP 'cross country; it's kinda old for such a long trip.

Oh yea, please Steve, add a Blu-Ray player to the new MBPs. I know you want to sell movies through iTunes but I've been buying Blu-Ray DVDs for the last year and I like taking them when I travel. No offense but I don't want to have to buy or rent a movie when I have the DVD already. It's the least you could do considering I got my brother to buy a Mac, my mom, my mother-in-law, and a nephew. I could ask for a sales commission but I'll settle for a built-in Blu-Ray. :D

Thanks!

I'm thinking the 2nd week of April at this rate - there is no way Apple will introduce the new MBP within 2 weeks after the end of the 'Back to School' programme, only to see masses of kids rushing to swap their machines. This date would also allow the iPad to gain full publicity prior to its launch. Wonder if there's any bookie to take on bets?
