Sigh......... no Mac Pro update rumors. I really hope they announce updates to the Mac Pro at WWDC.

Mac's are usually pricey, are we getting a good deal here? I would expect a price drop. I was expecting Leopard to come out with it too?

I heard . . .

Someone was talking to one of the employees about buying a macbook pro at a store in Detroit on Saturday, and I heard him say they were out of them but would be getting some soon. I know employees don't usually know if it'll be an upgrade by any means, but it's a shipment of some sort and he knew it was coming.

I double-checked the specs of the current models and this is not really an update.

The CPU clock speeds are insignificantly different. The included RAM is doubled to 2GB at about the same price as the old model so that's nice.

The only real different, based on this article is the GPU. Is that really worth the trouble?

If the CPU is the only metric for you (possible upgrade to LED screens notwithstanding) then it is just too bad... for you.

At this time there aren't any better chips that Apple (or anyone else for that matter) can use, so it is not like they are holding out on us like they did with the Macbooks.

if they do an update tomorrow, when does it tend to be around? For some reason I remember 9AM, but not sure why.

The GeForce 8600M GT support PureVideo HD. Could this mean Bluray or HD DVD on the Horizon.

If the new MBP still offers C2D it will be a major let down. I'm goint to sell my iBook to my dad but I'm not going to buy anything new until they get Santa Rosa and LED screens.

What are you guys' thoughts on the units being in stock in store tomorrow?

well prepare to be let down because it absolutely will have a C2D. 2008 you will see the change.

The Santa Rosa platform still uses the C2D..

Unless you're looking for quad-puting..

it will still be C2D.... SR is just a new chipset

The new MBP can (and will) have Core 2 Duo processors. They will also have the Santa Rosa chipset (if this rumor is true).

C2D and SR are two different widgets.

Santa Rosa uses C2D, and if these specs are right then it has to have Santa Rosa.

How many times do we have to say it....if this information is true...then we will have SR and it WILL have an 800MHz FSB! The memory is clocked at 667MHz. Feel free to upgrade the RAM to 800MHz.

What kind of extra performance could one expect (in real world applications) from an upgrade from the 667Mhz to the 800Mhz RAM?

I don't see this happening.

120 GB HDD when the BlackBook has 160? Rrrrrrright.

Only a .04 GHz upgrade? No Santa Rosa on the base?

I guess LED screens could make up for a new, non-Santa Rosa low-end MBP. But the hard drive can't be below the BlackBook.

Hold your horses Hoss, it's my understanding that you can't put a faster merom chip in the current motherboard. For 2.4 and 2.6 you'll need Santa Rosa. That, plus (hopefully) LED screens = good upgrade.

What, did you expect the cyberdyne chip or something? MBP and PB upgrades have been incremental for a while. Like when they went from 1 GHz to a 1.33 GHz in the 12-inch PBG4. That was a seven month upgrade.

Back to School is right on and add these 2 things....

Mac mini does not count and the deal ends around Sept. 16th.
